My understanding of the Yak52 is that it was developed for another private client and made available to ED's user base upon permission from them. My question then has to be: Is this other client getting a better, more finished version, or are they too having issues. If they purchased it for training, it stands to reason that they know this aircraft inside out and therefore must be fully aware of these issues. It kind of baffles my mind a little.

Why I love the F-86 in DCS - You Might Too
Zimmerdylan replied to flameoutme's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
The only thing I do not like about the F86 is that the nose of this plane jumps all over the place. It's the only module other then the Mig15 that has this issue for me. I enjoy just flying it around but do not do missions or anything like that in it. The nose is just too jumpy. -
(Project on hold) Weathered cockpit textures
Zimmerdylan replied to Minsky's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Do any of you remember the A10 before it's big update? It had a very nicely, well worn cockpit and people bitched, pi$$ed and moaned all about it. When this new, clean cockpit was brought out, people loved it. Now people want to have it worn out all over again. You can't make people happy I guess. For the record, ED did a perfectly fine job on both the old cockpit and the new one. Nothing against your work. It's perfectly nice. But ED had already done what you are doing and people complained. You guys are acting like you've never seen the worn look before. You had it for years for Pete's sake. -
I purchased the P-47. It was the first purchase in a long while because of the lack of progress on many other DCS modules. But I saw that these guys were making an effort and sprung for it. I'm not really sorry that I did although I have to admit I have lost my zeal for DCS at the moment. I haven't spent too much time with the P-47. I have learned the basics and can start, take off, land and shut down ok but quite honestly I'm kind of bored with it all right now. I imagine that everyone goes through this as one time or another. All said and done the P-47 is just fine in my book and should be a great addition to anyone's war bird collection. I say this in hopes that DCS will finally get around to addressing other important issues with existing modules ASAP.

I have yet to ever fly a PC sim whether it was VR or not that ever gave me the impression or sensation that I was at any altitude other than a computer generated one. I do not think that it's possible. I flew a $40,ooo,ooo dollar hydraulic simulator at a company called Flight Safety International here in Tucson about 7 years ago. I sat in real cockpits and felt every physical sensation (It was very cool), but when I looked out of the windows, it did not look like I was anywhere but in front of a projection screen. To my mind, this is a sim and that's pretty much the jest of it. I never expect reality. It's only disappoints. No matter who's software you use.
-
For the sake of realism: This isn't reality, it's a simulator. While flying DCS you are deprived of several very crucial elements that reality affords you and will never exist in DCS because of it's (and all software) nature. You cannot feel anything. The sensations of the aircraft movement and it's reaction to the environment are completely missing. It makes flying more challenging as you only have visual ques to respond to. Much more important than that in my book is the lack of visual ability as a whole. You really have no peripheral vision, and depth perception is skewed. Again.......far from reality. For me, the way things are modeled in DCS do a very good job of making up for the lack of many other physical sensations. Again....It's not real. It's a cartoon version of a simulated environment. I think that this is about as real as you're apt to get in a simulator like this. Call me crazy but I've been flying simulators for over 20 years and they have yet to be anything like reality.

There were nukes a long time ago for the mig 21. Was a disaster for any server they were used on. Many server owners would ban anyone using them.

[REPORTED]Oil Pressure warming up issues
Zimmerdylan replied to ShadowFrost's topic in Bugs and Problems
Whew.....Just purchased the P-47. I started it up and waited....waited......waited. It flew just fine but those oil gauges never moved. Thought I was doing something wrong. -
Am I waiting my time with the Stable version
Zimmerdylan replied to Burt's topic in New User Briefing Room
Best and short answer to your question.......No. No you are not. For very obvious reasons. -
I have been with ED now since about 2008 or so. I purchased Blackshark on disk for some ungodly low price in the cheapo bin at Best Buy. I also purchased Combined Arms on disk if I am remembering correctly. Being only a casual part time kind of player, I wasn't impressed with the complexity of the game. I wasn't looking to learn a ton of commands just to go out and blow things up. My interest waned until the P-51 was released. I had been flying other sims to that point that weren't so challenging or complex. When I saw the P-51 in DCS however, I was all in. Of course, I hated it. But this time it wasn't the complexity. It was the flight model. After flying so many unrealistic versions of the P-51 that allowed unlimited power, and a very user friendly F.M. I found the P-51 in DCS to be unfliable......Limiting. I hated it and I complained like a little girl. I complained to the point where I was perma banned from the forums. I might add that ED had every good reason to do so. Over a short period of time, I began to realize that these other sims (reputable, highly praised sims by the way) were actually at fault for my misconception of the DCS modules. I began to see the potential in DCS, and started looking into other modules. I did some research and began to feel pretty stupid about myself. This eventually evolved into me buying pretty much everything that ED was putting out. I eventually went back to the community leaders and moderators and pretty much pleaded to come back and was very graciously accepted. Over the years I have been both a helpful member and a thorn in ED's side at times. I have praised ED, and I have been temp banned for my attitude toward them. I am not an expert on aviation. I know very little about it. I don't make a hobby out of knowing every detail of aircraft. I have several acquaintances that are military aviators who have helped me and shown me along the way. But I am still just a casual flier. I only know what I know and am not particularly interested in becoming a full time gamer or pilot. A couple of years ago, I started to look over all of my modules. I looked at what I had, and what I'd been promised. I evaluated the enjoyment I was getting and compared it to the growing frustration over the lack of delivery of complete product from ED. I made the decision to stop buying new modules until the older ones that were out of Beta for years were complete. Well....As of yet, this has not happened. So my resolution has remained in place. This was not at all a personal decision. It was just a matter of being a wise consumer. I have nothing against ED, nor have I taken further purchases off of the table. But my ideology remains that if I'm not getting the complete product that I paid for, then I really should not invest in any more product. It's not punishment, nor is it an ultimatum for ED. It's just consumerism. As of late, I find that my opinions on why some modules have never been completed have changed. Now a days I feel that it's because ED has over burdened themselves with too many projects. They have started too many little fires and cannot possibly put them all out because they are exhausting their resources on creating newer, more complicated modules. This just creates more fires, maybe bigger fires. Then the question remains, which fires to put out, and which fires to let burn until they burn out and they lose that element of support from the product and community. Will I ever really know what's going on internally at ED? Most definitely not. But what I have found lately is that they are responding to the community more and more. They are more compassionate to the unhappy fans on the forums and being more forth coming. I find this incredibly encouraging. It really makes me feel better about my relationship with them. I see moderators and ED staff alike talking, being involved more and more in the conversation. I've seen some threads on the forums cleared up by ED staff, and good explanations being offered. This is happening more than ever before and it's probably the best thing that ED has offered up in a long time. If you think about it, they are not obligated to do this. Many software devs don't respond at all to their communities. I don't mind borked updates to Beta. I never complain about them. I see many unfairly bashing ED for a feature that they more than willingly signed on for. I have stable DCS. I don't need to use beta if it really comes down to it. I have pretty much removed all other flight sims from my computer so DCS is all I have left. I will keep it on my system. As bad as it seems at times, it's still the best sim out there by far. I appreciate DCS for that. I will in all likelihood purchase some of the new WWII modules coming out. If for no other reason, I will do it to lend some support to ED. I think that they are probably in need of it. I love WWII era planes and as much as some of my modules aren't complete, I still believe that DCS is worth investing in and do not relish in the fact that it may not be around in the future. That's not to say that I am predicting their demise. I'm just saying that I'm not ready to let that happen should it be a possibility. I want to say thanks to the staff at ED for their patience with the forum at large. I also want to thank them for being more responsive to the community lately. I know that it has helped me to want to come back and start purchasing modules again, and prompted me to be more opened minded and understanding to their internal issues. So for what it's worth ED......I have had a rocky relationship with you these past 20 years. But all said and done, I wish all of you only the best and success. I'll be reaching into my pocket book in the coming months to help keep things going for all of us. Still here ED..........:smilewink:

I would start purchasing modules again if I saw ED starting to keep the promises on the modules that I already have. There was a time that I purchased every module. I would have kept doing so if I hadn't started evaluating the modules that I already had and seen a lot of stuff that had been promised but never delivered on years after release and out of beta. Asking money from your customers every month to use something that's not complete after years of waiting is unreasonable.

In what reality do you think that this software would be functional if you paid a subscription fee? Many other games have gone the route of having people subscribe and they have periods where they go through days, and even weeks of down time after updates or whatever. Their internet play is certainly no better than it would be. Quite honestly, ED's current model isn't the issue here. I would like to think that It's more their lack of foresight. At this point, I barely ever fly DCS any more. I don't purchase any modules, and I would certainly never entertain a subscription. It would be a disaster for all of us and for ED. The community would pretty much drop to unsustainable lows.

I don't know or care what some person on the other side of the earth says they researched. I personally have seen and fired the weapon. I know from my personal experience that you can fire this weapon on full auto for quite some time before the barrel over heats. I also know from experience that the barrel goes back to it's original configuration after a short period of time. I have changed over heated barrels and switched them back when the secondary got too hot. Their research doesn't mean much at that point. I know beyond a doubt that this is fact. They are wrong. It doesn't bother me so much that the guns overhead immediately, but it really bugs me that they stay messed up. This is not at all correct. Not even a little bit. It doesn't take much to dial up some gun cam from the F86. That footage in and of itself speaks volumes. All you have to do is watch it and it tells a completely different story than what our F86 does. Not even remotely close. So between what I know beyond a shadow of a doubt from having my hands on the weapon and others just like it and what I see in those gun cams. ED's research doesn't mean much to me. Maybe if they'd provide me with their research results......Until then, I know what I have seen and experienced.

This is one issue that really upsets me. I have waited for YEARS for this to be corrected. I get that barrels warp. But having fired many a .50 cal Browning, and even the 7.62 M60. I know that they over heat and that there is a cool down period. In DCS it stays warped for eternity. It's useless once it goes into that warped stage. I know from experience that this is wrong. Plus...It takes a few seconds in DCS for the barrels to become hopelessly inaccurate. Again....Not true. I have fired many .50 cal Brownings and ED has this completely wrong. Yet for reasons I cannot understand they seem to be uninterested in correcting this issue. Granted the .50 cals I have fired were turret mounted on Tanks and trucks but they were accurate for longer and would correct after a cooling period, Not so in DCS. I would think that an aircraft traveling at 300 MPH would cool those .50 cals pretty quick. But no such luck. This is why I get so frustrated with this sim. It's just one of dozens of issues that DCS seems to not be interested in correcting.

What was getting at is that I have modules that are years old. Not one or two but 5 or 6 years that show no signs that initial promises will ever be kept or bugs fixed. If you think that new modules are going to be brought up to snuff, just keep in mind that modules that are over 5 years old are still waiting for promises that were made. I have long given up on purchasing new modules because ED isn't holding up their end of the bargain on many of the modules I have purchased in the long past. It's about time to start holding them accountable. So.....I'm just moving on.

Yeah...Been trying to stay positive and defend ED but looks like it's time to give up and move on. This is getting ridiculous. Nothing important getting fixed. No promises being kept.

2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
Zimmerdylan replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
Some of you guys aren't getting it and I fail to understand why. If you want a stable DCS with releases that are complete and tested, you stay with the stable DCS version. You get exactly what you want. You say you re willing to wait for the complete version. That's what stable DCS is. If you agree to, and volunteer to use the BETA version, you knew exactly what you signed on for. You are getting an incomplete version that has not been completely tested. It's what you agreed to. It all makes perfect sense to me. I have BETA and I fly it to see what ED is doing with it's updates. It's not always pretty but it tells me what direction DCS is headed in and gives me an idea of upcoming improvements. I have stable for when I want to just chill and enjoy. It seems that some of you are just happy when you aren't happy. -
2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
Zimmerdylan replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
That would be against forum rules but Flarpt is correct. There are several other modern sims with modern AC. Whether they're as good, not as good, better, or worse than DCS is the subject of opinion. And again....Not to be discussed on the forums. All sims have their ups and downs. Many people go back and forth between them depending on whatever issues are going on with any given sim at the time. We're missing the main issue here. The last update for DCS was BETA. It is there to give you the opportunity to test and see what issues prevail. If you have DCS open beta version, all you can do is offer input and constructive ideas based on your rig and how it all works with what you have. Downing ED based on a BETA program that you agreed to the terms of when you downloaded it is just short sighted. This particular thread isn't the place for discussing whether you agree or disagree with ED's perspectives, business model, or past problems that aren't getting addressed. It's the update discussion thread. So it is frustrating for many who are trying to solve issues in a positive environment. -
I know that I have become a pretty harsh critic of ED now a days. But I also give credit where it is due. Thanks for fixing the textures in the cockpit. It really makes a difference. I was really avoiding DCS mostly because of this issue. I don't know for sure but it feels like you guys have done some work on the FM also which seems to feel a bit more "natural" (for lack of a better term) to me. :joystick::D I don't really expect miracles from you guys. Only a fair product for a fair price. Honestly, I couldn't tell you much about software engineering, coding, or any of that kind of stuff. What I do know is that all of us have our craft. I'm positive that you guys at ED would find my line of work just as perplexing as I find yours. I to am in a very technical, and complex line of work. I had to go to college and get a degree just like most of you have had to do. I work for hours and hours on even small projects at times. My customers have made it very clear to me over the years (30 years in this business) that they don't know or care how my product gets made. They just want it done and done correctly. They can be very demanding. At times, painfully so. I get it. All I ask of ED or anyone is to stand on their word. If you say you'll deliver, it is not unreasonable for anyone to expect otherwise. In a timely manner. This is why I have become critical of ED at this point. None the less, this update brought me much relief and has given me reason to come back and enjoy virtual flying again. So thanks so much!!!!
-
B-E-T-A........Use stable release if you have problems with testing. Problems solved.
-
LOL....I'm a bit befuttled by all of this. Everyone is about rolling back and complaining about the update. I get that it can be frustrating. I myself am not particularly happy about many things in DCS at this time. BUT!!!! This whole beta thing is pretty self explanatory to me. (Simple as my mind is.) It's a test platform designed to give users the opportunity to help. ED has made this pretty plane. Common sense dictated to me that I have the Beta installed for those stellar updates that just blow me away, and I have the stable version installed for when the beta is pretty much sucking wind. Am I crazy or what? I don't have to roll anything back or complain. I have a stable, running version to revert back to. You guys cannot tell me that because this that or the other wasn't implemented to your satisfaction that you can't just go to the stable version and just wait. That's like the little kid that want's the shiny balloon in the window because the shiny balloon in his hand isn't in the window. You guys praise everything DCS does until you see that shiny balloon that's out of your reach and you won't be happy with what you have until you get that other balloon. Download the perfectly fine balloon that you already have and play with it for a while longer.
-
Exactly...........But don't hold your breath.
-
Guys: There are almost always non documented fixes and changes in every patch. Many times there is a lot more in the patch than is listed so just wait till you get it on your computer and check it out before you panic. It will save you a lot of anxiety to remember that this isn't at all uncommon. Even I, as a disenfranchised DCS user understand this.
-
And it's still wreaking havoc on the NTTR map. Much as I hate to say it, I have pretty much lost faith that much of this will ever get fixed. I've gone from flying DCS 2 or 3 times a week to maybe once a month. I usually get so frustrated with all of the issues that I just give up and get off. My faith in ED is at an all time low. Creating missions is a nightmare because of all of the issues with M.E. Assets pack seems to have been a bad purchase as there is little to nothing to it at this point. And yes I see all of the pretty images of all of the great "stuff to come" in the news letters. It really sucks that the only time I can comment on this simulator that I use to love so much it to report issues or agree with other's complaints. I use to praise E.D.

I'm creating this thread to kind of elaborate on another thread that was closed. It was the thread about the Mavs locking on to light posts and such. I have the same issue but when they lock on to these things, I can't break the lock. They stay stuck on whatever they lock on to first. I can't break the lock. I have been using the mavs in DCS for years and never had this issue. Not sure if the fatal locking issue is related or not. But it's an issue that I am having.
