DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread
Sierra99 replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Good Morning Gentlemen... I am posting a link to an article I found yesterday about modeling the F-16. Since this article is from an aircraft modeling website I am NOT posting it with any claim the information presented is correct. However, as a Scale Model Railroader, I know modelers tend to find/ focus on the minute details a lot of other people miss. I am NOTposting this to question anything ED has planned for our Viper...I have complete faith in their abilities. This is not an excuse to throw a fit and stomp and whine that something mentioned in the article is "Missing" from what ED has stated is planned. I simply have a couple of questions for folks with first hand knowledge like MVSGAS and others if they can answer them. The article states: Question 1.) In your opinion is this a valid statement? Did all of the Block 50/52s receive the CCIP upgrade as stated? Question 2.) Did the CCIP program standardize the cockpit panel configuration across a given series? I.E. All Block 50s cockpits with CCIP are the same, All 52s cockpits with CCIP are the same? The purpose of my questions is I am researching what paint liveries are reasonably correct for the external model it looks like we are getting...as opposed to the "My little Pony" "Hey it was applied to an "F-16" type liveries. (Not that there is anything wrong with my little pony...Those of you with girls will understand...) Thanks in advance https://www.usaf-sig.org/index.php/reference/41-research-material/82-f-16-viper-faq-stuff-you-wanted-to-know-about-the-f-16cd?fbclid=IwAR2KmDkm3o6DWc1kdh9RBXqfzhnOhrfY5Vz4p9lnoBsZLVLGCxxb8iHybMc -
That's kinda what I was hinting at...The version ED has planned will give us the 5 Theodore Roosevelt subclass carriers... Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 Abraham Lincoln CVN-72 George Washington CVN-73 John C. Stennis CVN-74 Harry S. Truman CVN-75 If they remove the Low Res "Carl Vinson" And re-theme the current "Stennis" as the "Nimitz", "Dwight D. Eisenhower" or "Carl Vinson", It would give us a total of Six to play with... If they provided all 3 of the Nimitz subclass it would give us 8.

I've had a Warthog almost 10 years now. Whenever I notice it getting a little sloppy, I open it up and clean it. Problem solved. It is a mechanical object and requires a little bit of maintenance to operate at peak efficiency. Other than occasional cleaning I've had ZERO issues with it...

To some extent yes...more with fighters than heavies but yes. There are cautions and warnings about not maneuvering the receivers with the boom. The Boom Flight Controls are QUITE capable of moving a fighter around which can be a little disconcerting the the receiver pilot. We also have an emergency procedure for "towing fighters" and there are well documented cases of this being done during wartime to get fighters back to a safe landing or ejection site. But in reality both aircraft are just flying formation...connected together. I have pics of a Luke F-16 pilot with both hands up on the rails because he had his plane trimmed out perfect and didn't need to touch anything (In fact he said it was probably safer if he DIDN'T touch the controls...) That being said, one of my favorite tricks was if an f-16 was hanging out at the back of the envelope...I'd put juuuust a little bit of retract pressure on the boom so they would start moving forward in the envelope. They would think they were accelerating so they would pull off a little power and slide back to where they were...so I'd put in a little more retract pressure and pull them forward....and they'd pull off more throttle... Final,y without warning I'd just hit the disconnect switch. Lacking the boom pulling them along they'd drop like a tank! Hope this answers your question.

In light of this, perhaps we can convince ED to rename the free carrier the "Nimitz", "Dwight D. Eisenhower" or "Carl Vinson". (Maybe even three separate skins? :music_whistling: ) It also kinda begs the question: once we have the new carrier module, How long will the current low res "Carl Vinson" be kept in the game?

DanielNL is correct. You shouldn't have to be "In the exact right place" to get a contact. As a retired Boom Operator with more than 22 years flying including over 2,700 in the KC-135...I can tell you it doesn't work ANYTHING like it "should". It "Works"...but nothing like it does in the real world. In the real world the Boom Operator has the ability to make a contact just about anywhere in the AR envelope if the receiver is stable. Nozzle angle is a factor but sometimes all a receiver needed was the lights to help him get settled down. Making them sweat to get into that perfect position did nothing but frustrate them...which didn't help matters. NOW...that being said...It took me a couple of years before I was really comfortable with MY abilities and the capabilities of the airplane to make contacts that weren't "Right in the Middle" so I consider the Boom Operator in the game a new guy. He just completed Mission Qualification Training and has about 10 months in the Air Force and about 250 hours flying. He's safe and can get the job done...but still has his moments because he cant believe he's getting to do what he's doing... Oh Wait...that was me...

Are ya running any MODS? -
Crimminy. You guys need to get lives or girlfriends or jobs or something...:megalol: Seriously, it looks great. I am curious to see how it's gonna hold up and work out. I have couple of original Cougar's I might look at something like this with.

You can buy both if ya stay home one weekend and not fly the -172... :music_whistling::smilewink: Seriously, I bought the Tomcat because it's cool...and to support Heatblur. I bought the Falcon for the same reasons...it'll be cool and I want to support ED.... I'm not really an "expert" in any module...and it's fun to switch it up occasionally and the fact is if I take my lunch to work and skip Starbucks...in a week I save enough to buy any module I want...

Answer me this! Multi-target JDAM and JSOW

When entering coordinates I usually have the Stores / JDAM page up on the Left DDI and the Stores page up on the Right DDI displaying which pylon is selected / being programmed. -

And why is silence maintained? Well silence is maintained because no matter what ED says people will complain... "Sorry, Its not going to be released this week"..."BUT IT WAS PROMISED" "It will be release Tomorrow...Wait sorry a blocking bug prevents release"..."BUT IT WAS PROMISED" Released...with a blocking bug..."YOU MESSED UP THE GAME" THAT is why silence... Here's a real simple fact...I've flown about 10 hours since Monday and not ONCE did it occur to me that my gaming experience was being dramatically impeded by the lack of a targeting POD. If you can't say you have mastered every single F-18C system and every single F-18C weapon and you can't fly a Case 1, Case 2 and Case 3 approach flawlessly every single time...Allowing the absence of the Targeting POD to impact your enjoyment of the sim shows lack of imagination... The simple fact is we will remember how WELL it was done a lot longer that how FAST it was done.

The only real "work" needed is to upgrade the electronics which is inexpensive and painless...Like 5-10 minutes work. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=220916 Watch eBay for Cougars...

I don't think that's the "cord" he's talking about...the pictures show a black wire loom on the canopy frame running along and behind the mirrors...which is in fact. It present. Now as previously suggested it might be for something our Harrier does not have...but it's not part of the ejection system.

It's actually closer to one 71 - 75... Theodore Roosevelt subclass Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 Abraham Lincoln CVN-72 George Washington CVN-73 John C. Stennis CVN-74 Harry S. Truman. CVN-75 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimitz-class_aircraft_carrier
