I wouldn't agree with this either, there is one other really good Battle of Britain sim I can think of out there that turned into a really good sim eventually. But has no VR support and I wouldn't hold my breath on it getting VR support in the future. A DCS BOB would be the future for this historic event to be simulated to its potential.

I've set my options to the VR default and made a few tweeks, my ground textures I've set to high Water I've set to high, Anisotropic filtering x4. The rest as I say is default VR setting. My pixel density is 1.5 but I use Oculus tray tool to override any game settings to do that. I have just done a simple ground attack mission in the P-47 with an A.I wingman 4 german ground vehicles and a Ju-88 and an FW-190A5 to shoot down. I flew over Dunkirk region then over the channel then over Dover then down to Hawkinge and landed. Unlike the other day I am able to maintain 45fps. I shall continue to play with the settings but I have a strong suspicion that MSAA has a huge effect on the channel map, obviously this is set to off with the default VR setting. Its a shame as I've always been able to use MSAA at x2 and maintain 45fps with all other maps including Normandy. To be fair to the guys that developed Normandy I was disappointed with it for a long while and performance was poor but with the last big update they did I think its improved massively they did a great job, but still hope one day colour saturation is improved for VR. Regards the channel map you can see the potential there but yes with MSAA disabled you get the downside, I can see a bit of flickering that the MSAA seems to deal with, I also doubt that you can add lots of ground and air objects without paying a huge price with FPS. But I would say to VR users give it another go with these settings and see if you notice a difference and hopefully ED can optimize things going forward.

its difficult with VR, what I see using my oculus CV1 is very different to what is on my monitor. I can adjust saturation on my monitor, you cant adjust colours on the Oculus. This mod is the only way I know of that adjusts the saturation. When I say ridiculous If I said illuminous green for grass I wouldn't be too far off.
-
Yeah I cant fly in VR with this map unfortunately, low FPS and heavy stuttering. Normandy running really smooth as is all other maps.

I use your wonderful mod to adjust the offensive colours of the WW2 maps in DCS, its the only workaround i've managed to find to do this and its worked beautifully until todays patch and again the colours look ridiculous. If you could get this mod working again for the latest Beta patch I would really appreciate it along with many others Im sure....

Ok that’s great to hear I’m confident it will be better than the current ones. Personally I find the head movement a bit robotic as well, I think this may be better static a bit like the Belsimtek choppers but that’s me. Looking forward to the updates on the gazelle good to hear it’s having a overhaul.
-
You won’t find another sim with animated deck crew like this so for that reason I shall have to wait. I’ve invested to much into DCS Over the years including my hardware so I guess I have no choice. To be fair to them despite being disappointed they have met their targets from what I can remember for release times for their last few modules.

Hi does the team have any plans to overhaul the pilots along with the rework of the gazelle textures, face textures mainly?
-
Yes agree an S3 or maybe an SH2 seasprite. This is excellent work you have done, the Orion and the greyhound are first class and are worthy of belonging in the game as are all your units.

You can download the mod from user files section it has been updated place files in script folder and files in saved games section. The readme file explains it. Anyway it now works thank god. Such a good mod.

What became of the Super Hornet?
westr replied to Erich Alfred Hartmann's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Yes this is true -
I have read about mustangs using flaps in combat it was termed combat flaps well that’s the term this mustang pilot gave it and I assume that means first stage flaps. I find on occasions in dcs when pulling hard turns first stage flaps can stop a wing dropping, generally I don’t use them but on occasion against the 109s it can help. I also find the mustang handles better at high altitudes with first stage flaps.

What became of the Super Hornet?

I agree, in some ways I feel they took the hornet design and shoe horned it into the role it now performs. I personally have always preferred the legacy hornet. -
You know I've been searching for something to adjust the colours in VR mainly in Normandy for such a long time. It got better with the last update of the map so I'd just accepted that this is as good as it gets. Read your post and thought ok I shall give it a try. Wow this is fantastic things look photorealistic and not cartoonist. I've adjusted to get my colours just where I want them. Just goes to show it was possible to do something about it. Thank you for posting.

Fair points well put.

I absolutely love the Mig -21 in dcs always have I find it such a quirky interesting module. And it just feels realistic. But since I've had VR I find its so strange to look into your seat and see nothing there and unfortunately it's got to the point where I'm only flying modules with a VR pilot body. I really hope they get round to implementing this for the Mig-21. Thanks for the continued updates on the FM.

An old newbie rejoining the sim community
westr replied to Photosbykev's topic in New User Briefing Room
I too started flight simming in the early 90s, the biggest revolutionary change in modern sims in my opinion is Virtual reality, it compliments flight sims perfectly particularly now we have beautiful 3D cockpits. Should you choose to go down that route. -
[REPORTED]Ju88 and A20 ignore reaction to threat settings
westr replied to Reflected's topic in Bugs and Problems
I found a slight workaround for the A20s when doing something like an escort mission in the P-51. I set ROE to weapon hold and they hold formation and don't scatter when attacked by German fighters. only problem is they don't fire back so are easy prey but it makes it a challenge as an escort fighter. another problem I found is this stopped them from dropping bombs at a point in the WW2 carpet bombing. So I set weapon free they then attack the target but its only the leader that drops and doesn't release the full bombload just one bomb despite telling them to drop all bombs. So I set an infantry soldier inside the target zone and when he is destroyed I damage the area and set loads of smoke and fire. Quite a nice effect. Once past this waypoint I then set ROE to Hold fire and then the Luftwaffe come swooping in and I have to defend the bombers. -
I can give it a try but in previous experience it makes no difference if it is set to no reaction or passive defence etc. Looking at the bugs section I think someone has reported it and has tried this. Have tried both passive defence and no reaction A20s will not stay in formation and engage fighters. Ju88s stay in formation while being attacked.
-
Ju88 responds in the correct manner A20 does not same mission parameters set. Works on B17 formation as well.
-
just tried replacing some B17s for the A20s in a mission using WW2 big formation and the A20s are reacting to threats like a fighter and go after the Luftwaffe fighters. So seems like escort missions are off the table with these AI unless anybody has a workaround for it?
-
It is strange sitting in a ww2 German fighter speaking American English I agree. It’s a shame as it was such a good well done mod. It’s a shame ED can’t incorporate it into the game engine.
-
Yeah you have to create one. So then now name a folder Sounds then your mods need to follow the correct sound structure I have placed then German speech mod in Sounds/Speech/GER/Common etc but unfortunately it is not working.
-
has anyone managed to get the German speech mod working again?
