SZS : F/A-18 Super Hornet Project
westr replied to SkateZilla's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
I hope so. It’s good enough. -
thanks

Really getting stuck into the Viggen again this is awesome with the Pilot in the seat and VR. Thanks so much Heatblur Bug: if I set radar range on display to 60 I get single figures on FPS, any other range 45FPS Has this already been reported?
-
This sounds fantastic can’t wait to try it. The switch to speed trees is what I’m most excited about.
-
Heatblur VR pilot body with the viggen. Oh yes fantastic work.
-
It’s really starting to come together now the hornet. My favourite module, I play VR and find hornet so immersive. FPS are great, pilot body looks great. Great array of weapons, now having TWS I’m looking forward to getting stuck into a2a with the F/18.

Would you want ANY heavy aircraft modules for DCS?
westr replied to Wing's topic in DCS Core Wish List
The dcs ww2 scenario would need to be heavily fleshed out compared to how it is now, I’m also not a big fan of how the Normandy map has been left certainly from a VR perspective, but I do feel dcs world would be a good home for a study sim of a WW2 bomber. Either a Lancaster or B17. I look forward to seeing what this next ww2 map will be as It could fit well with a heavy. The mosquito will be a step in that direction being a piston twin engine. It’s a lot of work a heavy, I liked the old (insert here) B17 sim, and the way they attempted to do it. I’m sure this could be improved on heavily now. -
Will this be making the next OB update?
-
Does the advanced settings, brightness etc on FPSVR work with a Oculus CV1 does anybody know.
-
this would be welcome as a static aircraft mod, it looks good so far. The guys who done the Greyhound mod and P3 Orion etc did a great job and it really helps with mission building to have different aircraft types, RAF scenarios in this case with a Nimrod and flying the harrier.

Nice mod.

Maybe we have simulation, but the game element is missing. I agree adding function to other factors in the sim would greatly enhance the existing modules.

No problem with full fidelity modules, I love them and crave them, and personally no longer fly the FC aircraft which is a bit of a shame as I love some of the Russian aircraft particularly the MIg-29 but not being able to operate cockpit systems when I can jump in an F-18 and do all that and more means I'm always going to go for the F18. I do feel there is a market for DCS to tap into with FC level aircraft and I can completely understand there reasoning for it and the new MAC sim, but it wont be for me. Having said all of that, I do sometimes think back to some of the sims that got me into flight sims in the 90s, EF2000 for example, they managed to get a licence to sim that aircraft probably because the systems were not modelled very accurately? I don't know for sure, but if that's the case, and with the people working for ED and obviously they have some very smart developers, could they not produce some sims for some of these highly classified aircraft using some educated guess work, we will of course be informed that no its not like the real thing but with the limited information we have we assume the systems would work like this, and I would at least want to see it have an interactive cockpit, I think that's the standard we've come to expect now, I would accept that, i'm sure EF2000 wasn't very realistic but sure as hell I enjoyed that game. I think that some great sims could be produced, the FMs could be very realistic, systems not so much so, but with some interactive avionics, it would be a step up from FC but not up to the level of the A-10C probably more like a game but a game using educated guess work, there was a famous developer in the 90s that made loads of sims a bit like this, yeah they were more like games but we all loved them didn't we, of course I would not want that to detract from the fully realistic modules ED are committing too. I guess it could depend on how ED grow as a developer because it seems to me at the moment they have a lot on their plate.

Yes I have the same question?
-
personally prefer mods that were available, not doubting how authentic internal sounds are but externally having seen countless amounts of spits fly by me I prefer the mods. Unfortunately they no longer work after the latest update.
-
Great stuff, we’re getting somewhere.
-
I wished. No it’s not clickable but you can still play it in VR. I recommend a Hotas and you can bind the essential commands to the buttons on your hotas, you’ll soon get used to where they are and will have no need to remove your headset

Texture mod for Caucasus 2.5 terrain
westr replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
These textures really are a must for me now. They make such a difference to the Caucasus map for me and I use VR. They have become really good. The winter I don’t notice much difference but the other seasons really improve the look. Good work starway. Now please work your magic on Normandy. -
It all comes down to appropriate units to compliment the plane. We are still waiting for ww2 assets to really makes things work in Normandy. If the appropriate assets could be added then an early spitfire and the Battle of Britain is sorely missed. And for me the Grumman F6F Hellcat and appropriate assets/scenery. But all that is a lot of work for a developer.

I don’t agree with the posts that the F18s F16s feel horrible to fly in comparison to the F14. I find the F18 really nice to fly, very stable and great pitch authority at low speed, the F16 as well, lethal in air to air and fun to fly. F14 is a different experience, in some ways it can feel a bit clumsy probably because it wings rock and it shudders, this is a testament to the developers and I take the words of the Tomcat flyers giving feedback on the flight model saying it’s really good. But even though the F14 can maybe feel a bit more dated or lacking in FBW stability, I would in no way say it is out of its depth against more modern opposition, for me personally I have more success with the Tomcat in air combat in terms of enemies destroyed and survivability than any other aeroplane in DCS. I feel this is a combination of factors such as long range missiles, Great situational awareness with a RIO and datalink from awacs, great speed which can get you out of trouble, great range and levels of fuel enabling you to open the throttles when needed. It’s a competent aeroplane in my opinion.

Right Shift+P or set to not show VR pilot in game options menu

Without a shadow of a doubt. And if you’re like me and have loved the Tomcat since a child it’s essential. There are some things that need sorting, I’m finding the experience in VR is not immersive enough because of not having the Virtial pilot. But was relieved to hear it’s coming to the Viggen soon so it will eventually work it’s way to the F14. As an aircraft in the sim I find it extremely effective as an all round fighter. With BVR you put you enemy on the back foot with you’re Phoenix missiles if you don’t take them all with the Phoenix you have a situational advantage because of their resulting defensive tactics and I often find I’m able to take down remaining enemies with the sparrow. And if it does come to the merge the Tomcat is still effective particularly if you’re light. I’ve been successful against Mig23s flankers Mig 29s and F16s, although I have to say i find it’s tough in the merge against the F16 and Mig29. The attention to detail will be apparent if you buy this module, you would see the extreme effort they put into making it. The jester RIO makes it unique and a different DCS experience, I view it as a WIP still but I still love it and am happy to support the team in buying it. Once fully complete it will probably become the best of all the modules in my opinion. Even if you have no particular interest in the F14 you only have to look at it externally. It’s one beautiful beast it looks awesome and it is so fast.

F-16C Change countermeasure program presets
westr replied to Luft Waffel's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
If you want to not dump as many chaff and flare there is a workaround, there is a separate despense chaff and flare command that only dumps two of each instead of the 10 on the program. I think CMS left does nothing anyway so I just mapped CMS left to this command instead. -
I’m tempted to record the old Falcon 4.0 AF theme and turn it into an .ogg file and have that as the background menu theme for the Falcon for nostalgia reasons.

Thanks. You’ve sold me with the Reverb.
