MSI GTX 1080 ti vs MSI GTX 980 ti
Boris replied to Alpenwolf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There is no SLI support for DCS. There are some tweaks you can do, but there's still problems with microstutters etc. Not worth the hassle. I bought my 1080ti more than 8 months ago and paid 150€ less. Are these kinds of prices ever likely to drop or is this the new normal? I'm already greatly anticipating the next generation of graphics. For VR, not even the 1080ti is enough. -
? AA works in VR. Most VR users are high-end and tend to be running 1080 TIs, and are getting pretty good performance with 2x AA in VR. Above that it's very taxing on performance though. AA is not working optimally in 2.5, but that's not just a VR issue.

I think everyone sees your point from an economic point of view. Yes, work isn't free. But we're not talking about extra features here. The cockpit lighting not working in the Ka-50 is a bug. It's not even a major bug, but one that is fundamental to flying the Ka-50 effectively. The module is slightly broken and it should be fixed. That's it.

I genuinely hope ED don't have this attitude. This would defeat the whole purpose of DCS World. I still want to be flying the aircraft we have now in 10 years time. All they need to do is update the cockpit textures to bring them up to 2.5 standard. I don't consider that substantial.

I remember Wags asking the community for expert info on the Abrams a while back. At least I think I remember that...

If I set my in game IPD to my real IPD, there is absolutely no difference. Lower settings make the cockpit look roomier but the menus will start to "swim"

No need to be so modest, it looks great! Download link? -
Whoa, them is fightin' words when talking about the finest aircraft of all time :D
-
Still a problem in 2.5 unfortunately...
-
Many of you keep talking about a solid 45fps. I'm assuming you're all using ASW? I wonder how you guys manage to run with ASW without getting glitches. With ASW on I have HUD elements and cockpit frames warping. This is best noticeable with the Spitfire sight.

Is anyone also annoyed by the fact that the HMS is too high and not actually over the eye?

I'm just getting started with 2.5 and I'm experiencing some loading issues. Sometimes when I load a mission I only get a black screen and not responding. Also when I change settings and the game needs to restart (such as deferred shading or pixel density) DCS won't load after it quits automatically. Anyone else getting this?
-
Deferred shading off looks really terrible unfortunately. The trees are too light in colour for example. It's hardly an option to tun it off, even if it greatly improves performance.

Meh, there's plenty more mature modules in my library :D The good thing about DCS is that you can comfortably spend months on a single aircraft.

The reason you don't overfly you target is to avoid being vulnerable to ground fire. It's also standard practice to launch countermeasures during an attack run. As CCIP requires you to fly over your target, there's really no point in avoiding it. In a high threat environment i wouldn't be bombing in CCIP anyway. Use your TGP to take out AA threats from a distance with Mavericks and go high altitude and take out targets with LGBs. In terms of flying the A-10c is one of the easiest to handle stable platforms we have in DCS. What aspect exactly are you finding difficult? The training campaigns are worth it, but you need to train for the mission content beforehand in order to pass them.

I'm pretty sure everything looks normal. What exactly does this flashing look like?
-
I've owned this module since pre-purchase but still haven't got into it because key functionality is missing.
-
I too really hope that this opens the way for future westward expansion, and that that is the reason for the name change.
-
I have a generic target script that I use for all modules. It simply assigns all DX buttons possible to the throttle, plus some common DCS keybinds for the remaining functions. Then I just run the script and use the throttle as a normal assignable controller in DCS. I'm happy to share if people are interested.

Great map idea! Why aren't we funding this??? Someone shut up and take my money!
-
As DCS is a simulator realized in meticulous detail, it's only fitting that the maps are also as accurate as possible, the foundational standard being that they are real world locations. That's my opinion.

When did the cars in Vegas get so drab?
Boris replied to Lixma 06's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
Is this a lighting thing or a texture thing? I notice in the newer screenshots there are no white cars. Are these now the grey ones? White cars are very common. I especially noticed no white cars on the Hormuz screenshots. Probably upwards of 70% of cars in the middle east are white. -
I find the performance with my 4770k to be in the acceptable range most of the time, but I do need to turn down the settings quite a bit in order to get smooth performance. For instance I would choose to keep 4x MSSA off. But as you say, performance can also be somewhat subjective. I've also been toying with the idea of a CPU upgrade, but as you know it's an expensive affair as I also need a new motherboard and RAM. Unlike you before your upgrade, I already have a 1080ti, so I'm not sure if 850€ of hardware is going to give me a performance boost that justifies the costs. That's why I'd be interested to know how significant the difference is between a 4770k with a 1080ti and an 8700k with a 1080ti. Of course there are plenty of benchmarks around from other games that show some advantage, but these are not very significant at higher resolutions due to what is probably a GPU bottleneck. However, DCS is notoriously CPU intensive, and I'm thinking that much of the performance shortcomings I'm having could be CPU related.
