Well that was an exercise in frustration ... I feel like I've been training to land on the carrier "the right way" for months (literally). I keep a log of carrier landings over on @Ansirial logbook page (highly recommend). As you can see, I am pretty consistent with the Cut Pass. Would have been relegated to desk duty long ago with those grades! Now that this appears to be a bug ( @BIGNEWY please confirm this is a known defect and is being looked into for resolution), I stopped uploading traps. In an effort to counter the tendency of the Flight Model to lower AOA at touchdown, today I tried "gaming" the system by flying an extremely slow approach keeping the E-bracket low at about 9° AOA. (Not a recommended technique at all) Talk about some AFU approaches! Argh ... I don't want to break the good habits that I've developed with the trainer and get into nasty techniques to overcome a product defect. Candidly, I never thought I'd EVER be in a place of proficiency where I'd even care about this kind of bug. There was once a time, not long ago, where my goal was simply to arrest on the carrier - period! Maybe I should be happy with my progression and just stop caring about LSO grades. Unfortunately, I'm not wired that way; I want to better myself and my technique. ED - love you guys! I really do. You've made my childhood dreams of becoming a Naval Aviator as close to coming true as possible. Any assistance with the FM under these conditions is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Well THAT's far too simple!!! Thanks @JG54_NF2!

Ahhhh ... that IS interesting. Makes sense because I could have sworn I was on AOA the whole time. It seems to abruptly decrease right before touchdown. @BIGNEWY, should this be in the defect/bug section? Thanks for the assistance, @Stearmandriver

So, @Stearmandriver was correct, both passes received the following LSO grades. 65 Score = LSO: GRADE:C : _LULX_ _DLIC_ _LULIC_ _TMRDAR_ (LLIW) 3PTSIW WIRE# 2 _EGIW_ 66 Score = LSO: GRADE:C : _LULIC_ _DLIC_ (LLIW) 3PTSIW WIRE# 3 3PTSIW being common between the grades. Now, as I think about that grade I am saying to myself, "the only way to get a 3PTSIW is to drop my AOA so flat that all three tires hit the deck together ... there's NO way I am doing that!" So, I go back through the track and try and observe why the LSO thought they saw a 3PTSIW. These images below are from the 66 Score track: Okay ... that seems odd. I wasn't moving the stick so the nose must be falling due to a defect. Yeah, that's the problem. It can't be me. So I went back into the track to check out the E-Bracket as I cross over the back of the boat. SERIOUSLY?!? I think I diagnosed the problem - and ... as in Real Life ... the LSO was right! Back to the trainer to work on maintaining AOA throughout the entire trap!

For those of us stuck, if there any way to skip mission 8 and continue the campaign as though we successfully completed? Thanks

Not sure where to post this, mods ... please move where appropriate. I have been using @Bankler Case I recovery trainer for months and thought I was making improvements. I can fairly consistently score in the 60's. Unfortunately I must have done something to tick off my LSO officers because it seems like I can't get anything but a CUT PASS from them! I am posting two tracks for the community to check out. One scored 65 on Bankler's training and the other 66. Both received Cut passes from the LSO. Can someone more wise than me PLEASE tell me what I am doing "unsafe with unacceptable deviations"? I very much appreciate any help the community can provide. Thanks! NOTE: I am on the latest OB Cut_Score_65_2.trk Cut_Score_66.trk

fixed There is a hole in the v2.7 map! ;)

That's one heck of a sinkhole! -
Right ... completely understand the center detent space game angle. Sorry, wasn't clear with my question. Has anyone setup an afterburner detent for DCS Jets? If so, how did you measure out where to place the magnet given DCS jets have different AB thresholds on the throttle. Thanks.

I just ordered the Impulse Slider mk.2 from this Etsy seller I ordered on Monday and it shipped Tuesday morning! Talk about customer service. I also spoke with the seller several times via Etsy PM. He's very responsive and a fellow DCS fella as well. I can't wait to replace the metal on plastic slider of the stock throttle. I actually purchased both sets of bearings so I could see which felt best for me. I am expecting the Polys to work best, but I figured it was cheaper to source the metal ones via Etsy vs. purchasing on Amazon. I am just so tired of fighting the throttle as it "sticks" and "jumps". No matter how hard I try to finesse the movement, there's just no way (for me) to be precise with the way this was engineered. I saw a video over the weekend of a guy that installed this slider and said he regretted getting the VIRPIL throttle now that he'd experienced the smoothness of the thrustmaster. Anyway, I'll report back with my findings once it arrives and I get some time with it. For those that installed the detent, how'd that work out for you? Did you go center or more around the 80% mark?

Grats @Willbassen! Completely agree this is an awesome training mission. I try and use it every day.

VKB MK IV T-Rudder New Owners and Veterans Q&A
Mistermann replied to Weedwacker's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Jumping in here to say, I have been using these for a couple of weeks and love them. They are my first set of pedals, so I have nothing to compare against. Took a little more than a week to arrive to the US from China. Great ordering experience. As others have noted they were plug and play. Took them out of the box, tightened the lock nuts on the cam, and plugged them in. Went into DCS control config and that's it. Easy peasy. Aside from the added immersion, these are built like a tank. All metal aside from the plastic adapter for the RJ-45 cable. If you're in the market for rudder pedals, and aren't hung up on toe breaks, look no further. As a happy customer I am definitely considering VKB devices to round out my search for a high end HOTAS (have the TM16000 HOTAS today). -

No proper communication after carrier landing.
Mistermann replied to Dhuntman's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
Argh....I train almost daily with @Bankler case 1 recovery trainer. This bug is just beyond frustrating. I'd say I get this NC grade 30% of the time. I scored a 65 this morning on the trainer, performed the ball call at . 7 miles and even called the carrier to establish inbound at beginning. I'll try and grab a track next time. -
I did a quick search but didn't find the answer. Is there a way to update a lua file somewhere to change the default date and time of the ME mission from 21 June 2016 0800hrs?
-
Great ideas, @Tank50us. Thanks for starting the thread. I have been thinking about some of these myself and how to trigger/script whenever I land or takeoff. Some could be done in the ME, while others we need ED's help. I love the immersion factor of your suggestions. I just wonder where these would rank on a priority list for ED - pretty far down the list, I'm afraid.
