Nvidia 416.16 10 4 18 update
NeilWillis replied to FOXFIRE TWOONE's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No adverse effect here. -
It is also affected by the configuration of the aircraft - launch bar down = no hi gain. As long as you have a nose wheel steering button mapped, it'll work as advertised.
-
But your second point is not a point. You don’t have to be online to play. You just have to confirm ownership periodically. So I say again, what is your second point?

Great work. I hope everything goes well for you guys.

Air Traffic Control / Airport management ...
NeilWillis replied to Frag's topic in DCS Core Wish List
How do you know it is deaf ears and not just priorities? They have already said that ATC is getting some love soon, and yes, AI is terribly bugged in some respects. But ED deaf to your concerns? Really? I'd say they're doing OK for a small organization. They lead the world in combat simulation. But all things take time. A lot of time. -
OK, so maps are one thing that gets your goat, what was the other thing? I am afraid you'll have to wait a very very long time for a global theatre map in DCS World. Maybe when the cost of a supercomputer comes down to a few million, and the space requirements come down from 3 large detached houses to something less than a whole floor? Unfortunately, they're already pushing things to the extent that a lot of people complain about download times for maps, and that they occupy vast amounts of disk space. I dread to think how long the whole planet would take in today's terms, or how big the file size would be!

SSD vs HDD - DCS loading times?
NeilWillis replied to sc_neo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There is another far more relevant aspect to disk types - when you're flying, there is a requirement to load textures and terrain files. With an HDD there will be stuttering as the load times slow down the game. That's when an SSD is required, and you'll soon get fed up with the issue if you don't have DCS World installed on one. It's definitely not about how fast you can get from start screen to cockpit. -
It depends on national SOPs. Generally turn on flashing nav light prior to engine start, switch them to steady after startup completed. Taxi lights on just prior to taxiing. Anti-collision lights on just prior to joining active runway. Landing lights on prior to take-off and off when you retract landing-gear. All lights off when fencing in. Convoy lights as required. These are just a general way to use them, and there will be plenty of different approaches to light use.

It's simply pilot-induced oscillation. You are over controlling, which leads to needing a correction in the opposite direction. Once you start, it is very hard to stop. The key is to make very small corrections, make them early, and watch the results before making further inputs. It's really just down to practice. Fly very low, and you can simply plant the aircraft onto the deck before the situation becomes uncontrollable, then collect yourself and try again. Hovering a Harrier is not easy. It kills a lot of professional pilots, so you will naturally struggle at first too.

Excellent work as always Jabbers. Much appreciated.

For room sized VR experiences being wireless will be a huge benefit. For DCS however, not so much, and as it is bound to introduce connection issues, it might not be a god send. I'm surprised you missed that!

The best of a poor bunch perhaps, but given the much better engineered gimbals in either the Virpil or VKP sticks, being the best for years says very little.

Have you ever seen an optician to have your eyes checked? It would be a good first step in eliminating possible issues. You can probably get a free check if you shop around. It's very easy to jump to conclusions regarding hardware, when it may just be highlighting a more fundamental issue.
-
Will there be another opportunity to buy the upgrade? I have been watching your website for a while, and I don't mind a long wait as long as I can join the queue. Thanks.

If you want to have a poll that means anything, why put utterly redundant and unfair statements into the choices? It renders the whole poll pointless and adds a very unnecessary bias to what could otherwise be a useful tool to ED in making their decisions. Well done for lowering the tone of the debate!

If your generator fails, you land as soon as possible. You certainly wouldn't wait for the battery to fail too, so a bit of a moot point. I'm definitely going to add my weight to the worn out hinge issue though. They clearly need correctly simulating. We should have the doors falling off after 2000 door operations. I wonder if it's already a feature? I suggest we all immediately get into the sim and test this! OK, it may take up precious system resources to simulate, but how could such a major issue be overlooked by the devs?
-
Seems to be an isolated issue, so if you haven't already run a repair, try that. If you have, then perhaps renaming your saved games folder temporarily may hold the key. I am afraid saying that it isn't good enough after paying money out for a module is a little redundant as there is clearly no issue for the thousands of others who have successfully installed it. Though I can see how frustrating this issue clearly is for you. I hope these steps help you get going with a great module.

Ask yourself this then... If the battery is modelled, what difference does it make? If it isn't, what difference does it make? Frankly, life is simply too short to worry about stuff that really, fundamentally, doesn't make the slightest difference at all. As for forum policing, are we not allowed to express an opinion that contradicts someone else's without having to pass out from police academy? I was asking a fundamental question of the need for battery modelling when it is a feature that a. no one in their right mind would ever test, and b. makes such a little difference to flying well maintained aircraft (and military aircraft are allegedly highly maintained, wouldn't you agree?). If I take the time to point out a little factet, why do you consider that forum policing? I don't recall saying anything about what anyone is or isn't allowed to say, I just questioned the logic of a frankly unnecessary detail that has such little impact on flight operations that it isn't worth even a passing consideration. Who in their right mind sits in a real world aircraft just to watch the voltage decay over the course of an hour or more?

Pop ups are normal depending on your graphics settings. Stuttering isn't a universal problem, and it is always easy to pick up a big stick to beat ED with. I occasionally get stuttering on multiplayer servers when a particularly heavy load of activity is being dealt with, but not when bombs explode. As for being banned, it isn't something you need to discuss on a thread about cloud and shadow pop ups is it? Those with a gripe should simply take it up with the moderators, and don't air your dirty washing in public. FWIW no one gets banned for making legitimate complaints, but judging by some posts, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised some have been suspended from the forum. I doubt very much whether anyone else would be concerned about how the moderators operate the forum, which is one of the more civilised ones out here in the ignorantnet. As DCS World is only now settling down after a radical re-design, to expect a flawless system is a little unrealistic. I am sure as time passes, more and more wrinkles will be ironed out. Let's face it, the biggest restriction on smooth running will always be the currently available hardware, and any software house worth it's salt will always stay at the leading edge of the curve of what is possible. If you don't have the cutting edge technology, and some clearly don't , what do you expect if you try to push the settings too high?

Speaking for RAF Air, we just seek pilots who can safely take off and land in most meteorological conditions before letting them loose on missions. The majority of teaching is done "on the fly", and we don't over emphasise correct procedures. The main reason for this is that we try to provide a relaxed, and informal atmosphere, where errors are overlooked to a great extent. We have dabbled with more in depth training, and more structured procedures, but with the turn over of casual fliers, it is both difficult and time consuming to implement and track, so it really isn't within the scope of our organisation. Given a more consistent pilot roster, I would like to go down the route of full qualification programs, but it isn't really feasible with our staffing and turnover.
-
In normal operation, do pilots usually have issues with battery power, or do the ground crews tend to carry out correct maintenance? This is a flight simulator last time I looked, and frankly, modelling the battery life has to be a pretty low priority for any developers - and no doubt a costly one? If your idea of a good time is to sit there and watch a battery drain, then I suggest you may be looking in the wrong place? Generally, what people here do is fly aircraft, drop bombs on stuff and generally, have a life. I guess given enough time and thought we could all pick fault with everything, but really? Battery simulation is such a huge concern you have to raise a thread on the subject? One might think you were all an ampere short of an ohm!
-
Well, for a start, it isn't an ED module. Last time I looked, it was a RAZBAM creation. That, plus there is a check box too. And what if you were one of the people that like to use the NS430 in the Harrier?

AOA is a measure of the attitude of the aircraft relative to the wind. It is sensed by a rotating vane on the exterior of the aircraft. It is related to speed, but you don't need speed indication to measure AOA.

There is a dedicated server coming to DCS World in the autumn. I'd hold your complaints until we know exactly how that will be organised. For what it's worth, our server has licenses for all the maps, and guess which one we invariably run? That's right, the free one - a number of our client base don't have the premium maps, so we choose not to exclude them from our activities. But yes, free maps for server only installations would be great. I'm guessing we just need to watch this space. A lack of a response doesn't equate to your comments being ignored. They just don't enter into debates, but they are listening.
