Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
You have always been very good with field textures, and these ones look top of the line. The real challenge now is to combine them with a good noise. This is very difficult, but I have faith that you can pull it off after seeing these pics. If I may sugggest something is that you avoid baked in forests (Which you usually don't do anyway). In your last mod posted elsewhere, the noise was ok, but looked a bit off at lower level. The balance, both in harmozing the general colour scheme with the fields, as well as making it good at high/med/low alt is truly challanging. Also btw- I think the mountain textures you had in the last one was top notch. -

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Have been following you elsewhere in the meantime. Good to see you back. As for these textures, the fields look good for a general European look. Crisp and sharp, (But not much like the actual fields in the Caucasus region, as you know). I still like it though. Trees look too dark. Also, I am very interested in your noise textures, as they constitute the largest portion of the map. Looking forward to see this progress. -
Carrier Air Wing 66 (CVW-66) Euro-timezone based Virtual Carrier Wing multiplayer (PVE) community RECRUITMENT: OPEN FOR F-14 and F/A-18 CREWS Recruiting: -F-14B pilots and RIO's -F/A-18c pilots NOTE: Please read the ENTIRE post before you consider applying. TIMEZONE AND FLIGHT TIMES: We are in the EURO zone and for timings and connection issues, we are primarily interested in pilots in this region. (We DO have pilots outside the EU, and that is no problem as long as European late evenings works for you and the connection/ping is sufficient). Our primary nights for playing are THURSDAYS and SUNDAYS 1930 CE(S)T. We fly on other nights as well, but these are our primary evenings for coordinated operations. DESCRIPTION: We are a mature group of laid-back guys with a strong passion for aviation in general and Naval Air Ops in particular. We are a MILSIM group that enjoy the communications, procedures, brevity and tactics employed by real pilots, but always put enjoyment and fun first. We have a three step qualification program, Initial Qualification (IQ), Mission Qualification (MQ) and Carrier Qualification (CQ) that leads up to your deployment. In your training you will be guided and supported by friendly and supportive Instructor Pilots. Expect to fly everything from simple formation and navigation practice, to close quarters BFM training, as well as large coordinated package strikes during your training period. We are currently wrapping up our second work-up (NTTR) to train new crews and tactics before deploying again 'on cruise', this time to Syria. SQUADRONS AND AIRFRAMES: Our current active squadrons are VF-119 Tridents (Fictional) flying the F-14B, and VFA-166 Maulers (Fictional) flying the F/A-18C. ACTIVITIES: We provide training on fundamental skills such as basic communications and brevity, formation flying, air to air refueling, BVR, ACM and air to ground. These basic skills are trained and learned together with others, nuggets and veterans alike leading up to a Initial Qualification (IQ). From IQ you will pass through a selection of fundemental qualifications in tactical operations in both the air to air and air to ground role, upon which you will be Mission Qualified (MQ). Lastly, you will have to show your mettle in day and night carrier operations for Carrier Qualifications (CQ). With all three stages qualified, you are ready to deploy as a Carrier Mission Qualified (CMQ) pilot with the rest of the Wing. We roughly divide a year into to distinct phases. 1: Work-up phase. In this phase, the CVW is based out of Nellis Nevada. From here, we train new pilots and practice new procedures and tactics on small and large scale. 2: Cruise phase. On cruise, all Wing activities are centered around Carrier Operations. From the 'boat', we fly cyclic operations, carrying out whatever tasking is required of the Wing; from small scale training sessions to large scale alpha strikes. BEFORE YOU CONSIDER APPLYING- MAKE SURE THAT YOU THIS DESCRIPTION IS FITTING FOR YOU: 1. You are a mature, casual dude, that enjoy 'serious fun' and learning together with like-minded pilots. 2. You own and actively fly the Heatblur F-14 Tomcat or ED's F/A-18 Hornet and can hold your own in all aspects of a mission (Navigation, communication, a2a refuelling, BVR, WVR, A2G, Case I recovery). NOTE: You don't have to be an expert or ‘ace’- just how to operate the aircraft and its sensors and weapons. In addition to being able to operate your chosen airframe, you should as a minimum be familiar with and and be able to execute Case 1 scenarios as a baseline minimum. 3. You have been active with DCS for a good while and know that this is a lasting passion and hobby for you. 4. You are self-driven and take responsibility for practising required skills, getting in touch with others to get missions going and can ‘take care of yourself’ in terms of improving your basic skills in DCS. 5. You can enjoy 'slow paced' gameplay, where the focus is learning together, rather than racking up kills in a PVP server. 6. You are European based (Due to ping and time zones), but speak English comfortably. 6. You own the NTTR and Syria maps as well as the Supercarrier module. 7. You have, or are willing to get Simple Radio (SRS) for in-flight communications. 8. Lastly- REAL LIFE always comes first: If you can't join us for a mission, don't sweat it. Got a few busy weeks ahead? No problem, just let us know. As an applicant, we expect that you make an effort to be an active and contributing member, and that you realistically aim to join 3-4+ missions a month in general. If you join but end up not participating over the course of weeks you will be discharged without warning. If ALL of these points apply to you, feel free to contact us on Discord and tell a bit about yourself and your background, including DCS DISCORD: https://discord.gg/FVXVtZHT52 YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp2...F2pHehuUmCJMCg If you enjoy flying the Tomcat and Hornet together with like-minded people- you won't regret it!

Sorry if this has already been discussed (Which I am sure it has, given the enormous amount of posts and threads). The F-14 is one of my absolute favs, both in RL and DCS. I think that HB raised the bar on so many levels, and I am incredibly thankful for their dedication and effort. So do not read this as complaining;) I know the sound has been discussed before, but are there any answers from the devs on the path ahead. Currently, while the overall sound is pretty decent, there are still some issues. 1. When starting up, a very noticable CUT as the main engine sounds comes in (No fade, it just suddenly starts playing after the spool up. It is very noticable and not very slick. 2. The extreme range of the sound when at idle (Being able to hear the idle aircraft for miles and miles away as your head is still stuck in the intake. 3. The flyby sounds, which are both bugged (In terms of sounds suddenly cutting in) and also a bit sub-par when compared to other premiere modules. Are these things that are just accepted as 'done' or are the plans to tune this? Second, the LIGHTS. Ingorant as I am, I never got why some DCS modules have great use of external lights, while others don't. Is the tecnology and shaders simply not shared? I have noticed that Razbam has gone from having the absolute worst exterior lights, to now having the very best of them all. Meanwhile, the lights of the Tomcat are only visible of you are actively staring at them, and I frequently need to zoom in and check if they are in fact on. Any words on these as well? So to sum up: LOVE the aircraft, but these flaws are very noticable (Though still 'minor' depending on your area of interest), but some improvements here would really be the icing on the cake. Cheers.

My earlier complaints were my own fault, as leftovers from old mods were in my saved games folder. Now that I am cleaned up, I hear the new sounds in all their glory, and I have to say I am bloody impressed! The only gripe I have is what others have mentioned, that when idle, the sound is extremely low, both inside and outside the pit. I suspected that a Merlin running in idle would make somewhat more noise. I can easily hear the whine of the fuel pump above the engine both inside and outside. Either way, thanks for the efforts fellas. This is great work!

Anything say is fine PBO. A couple of small suggestions: If you have two carriers, don't have them so close that flying in pattern on one takes you over the other (Seperate them by 5 nm), and also that the carrier group is a bit out to sea (Not cruising just outside the coast). I can make these edits myself ofc, just a humble suggestion. Looking forward to it either way:)

2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
They have stated before that a complete rewrite of the weather engine is underway. Let us be happy that this field, which is severely outdated get some love, before we start whining about everything they have not said anything about yet. Jeez. Looking forward to seing some pics of this as this develops. -

Note that I am not discussing the new noise per se- I am talking about a specific shift in pitch (sound- not prop) that happens when increasing and lowering boost.
-
As you may have noticed, we got new sounds in the latest patch 31st october 2019. Overall, I think it is a very positive development and the flybys especially sounds great. Good job on the guys implementing new samples! However, I notice that when changing from low to high boost (Running up the engine) as well as reducing boost, there is a VERY noticable "gear change" as it jumps from one sound sample to another. Try standing on the ground, fine pitch, brakes in and increase and lower boost and listen yourself. This is also just as noticable in external view. Can someone confirm? For me it is very noticable, but if people don't get my point I will make a video. Just want to pitch in (no pun intended) to make our beloved Spit IX the best she can be in DCS:)

Besides switching waypoints and 'break lock', are there Jester commands that are bindable to buttons? Some commands that are commonly used would be great to have as map-able options for quick refernce, to avaid going into the jester-rose for all things, especially in the heat of battle. Some of the commands on the top of my head. 1. Lock nearest enemy target 2. STT lock TWS target target (1,2,3,4,5,6) 3. Drop tanks 4. Tune radio next/previous preset. 5. Radar on/off.
-
Here people can request/suggest "special for joystick" options. My first suggestions: laser on/else off CAT I/else CAT III

Has anyone got some good user curve setting to have the Viper stick AB match the AB detent? I keep fiddling but I haven't found the sweet spot.

Thank you ED! Lovely to have this iconic aircraft in the hangar!

Campaigns updated with navigational aids

Nice! Love this dedication to quality. -
Would it be possible to edit this lovely script into the campaign? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=223672 I know nothing about the underlying code here, so I tried implementing it using the 'base mission' and restarting the camp, hoping it would carry on to the generated mission, but I could not get it to work. How can this be done? A proper LSO would elevate these great campaings even more:)

Don't know if you noticed this, but the P-47 picture in the last NL is NOT from Normandy (At least in its current form). Vegetation patterns, field textures and houses are different. Perhaps the Jug will be paired up with one of the upcoming ww2 maps..

I have looked at quite a few pics from the gulf, and I actually find that fog makes a believable haze. Select fog, but set the visibility to max, and have it go up a couple of thousand feet.
