  1. All the listed items in the newsletter are parts of the rendering engine\pipeline. This is why AI and FM etc. haven't been mentioned. I wouldn't worry too much about it. The graphical engine is the most demanding part of the equation and is obviously the most difficult to code or rather convert into a proper multicore setup.
  2. Thanks for the reply, I think I get it now. Their products are really appealing, especially with the long extensions, but the price....I don't think I can justify getting one until my trusty MSFBB2 dies. Maybe a second hand one if I get lucky. I spent tooooo much this year on the VR, the 3090 etc.
  3. Yep thats it. The actual switch in the cockpit.
  4. Yeah I get that, but how does it work in practice? You just don't install the provided springs and then move the stick and let it go where you want it?
  5. How does this work? I've been looking at VKB stuff for a few months, but have not pulled the trigger due to price, availability, difficulty of setup and assembly and not sure how these dry clutches are supposed to work. (Mostly the price though) I'm using the MSFFB2 joystick and its fantastic, but its a bit clunky to use because of its short throw. I couldn't go back to a joystick that had no force feedback for helicopters.
  6. Yeah you have a point there. *edit* This then leads me to my next question. YAW Off, but Damper ON or OFF? These two things are not the same thing AFAIK, but please correct me if Im wrong.
  7. Yeah the wording is very strange, from the newsletter it appears that many of the so called "multicore" features are already part of the released 2.7.X etc.
  8. I don't see how? I mean you move the pedals, the AP turns off. You center them and the Yaw AP turns on. Sounds like it could be pretty usable. Some dead-zone may be required though.

  10. Is there no one who has tried Spring-Less and YAW on? I guess I'll have to experiment
  11. Okay finally managed to get some limited time in VR with this new setup. I haven't noticed much if any frame-time improvements, but and this is a big but, everything "feels" smoother somehow. Load times are faster, and there is noticeably less frame dropping everywhere. If I were to do a proper VR test (which I wont because of time issues) I think I wouldn't see anything in the average numbers, but the frame-time spikes and drops would be drastically diminished. Was it worth it? Well.....it depends. In my case I'd definitely say yeah, yeah it was. Would I recommend it to anyone who wants pure numbers? Probably not. Do you think a 5-10% improvement in CPU frame-time is worth it? Do you hate even the tiny little hitches that happen to time to time in VR, even once you've dropped your settings to hit that 45 or 90fps or whatever? If the answer to those questions is yes, then yeah, definitely go for it.
  12. Hi All, recently I removed the springs from my pedals for easier helicopter operations. It's a strange, fun ride in the Mi24p ever since For example, now I have much better control at any kind of maneuvering during forward flight, but as soon as I approach hover, or close to hover speeds oh boy...the problems start to multiply quickly. I have been using the spring-less pedals without turning on the YAW channel, but should I really be doing that? So how do you guys (with damper pedals) fly the Hind? Yaw AP on? or Yaw AP off? Pros, Cons? One other question, related to that. Do you put in any deadzone to your pedals in the controls?
  13. Agree 100%. More detail sounds like it would be nice, but look at what happened with the Mariannas map. Almost completely unusable in VR for most people. Even though it's landmass is nothing compared to the maps we already have. Maybe things will improve with the engine changes that Eagle Dynamics is promising, but who knows when that will become implemented or available.
  14. Yeah with all of that said, a small caveat always buy from a very trusted ebay seller. Nothing worse than having a DOA card (or anything else for that matter).
  15. Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about that. If the card is completely functional, and not defective in some way, and has been used within its normal thermal limits. Most miners usually take good care of their hardware, it would be too expensive for them to do otherwise.
  16. For now the best advice would be to wait. There is really no reason to upgrade to anything just yet, Alder Lake is around the corner and we need to see what AMD will come up with to counter it. Prices in PC Hardware have gone up through the roof, and hopefully they will stabilize once the Pandemic is taken care of but for now there is no real good reason to buy anything new unless you are getting a steal on the price, or you have a component fail on you.
  17. How much fuel is in those birds in the pictures? Are they fully fueled? Are they fully loaded with weapons and ammunition? I have no idea if compresibility of the landing gear is modeled in DCS World for the 109 and even if it takes the aircraft's total mass into account.
  18. The Mi24p is still very much a work in progress. It can definitely be flown though, and used in combat, however we are still missing some weapons (the longer ranged ATGM is not yet implemented) and there are IMO issues with the flight model that need fine tuning and fixing. These are minor issues though. One big aspect that is still very much a WIP is the Petrovich AI. It's very barebones for now, but it can still get the job done at least when used in the front seat. However it is still very enjoyable to use and fly and fight in. I had some trouble adjusting, coming from the Mi-8 which I did not expect, but I am still enjoying the module for what it is at the moment.
  19. A multithreaded application will run better on a multicore processor. Theoretically at least. As long as the different threads of the application are optimized in a such a way that they can efficiently work on different cores at the same time without waiting too long for each other to complete different tasks and share information and results between themselves without introducing additional latency.
  20. No real surprise. Win11 looks like it will be another Vista. I keep wondering why people rush out to "upgrade" to a new Microsoft OS as soon as they release one. There really is no logical reason to do so here. (Usually it's best to wait with any kind of OS upgrade at least 6-12months).
  21. Will there be a way to access this interview without a subscription once it becomes available? Thanks.
  22. Yes this has been my experience with you guys as well, my post above is definitely not targeted at @Raptor9, @kgillers3 and others who have been nothing but helpful and understanding.
  23. It looks like 2.7.7 is coming next week. I wonder if the forum banner is a little sly hint that some more weather improvements are coming in the next patch: New fog maybe? Cos that would be awesome
  24. I have to say something, make of it what you will. I'm sick of the elitism in this community. Not saying that everyone is guilty of it, or even that most are guilty of it. In fact I'd say that most people who fly in DCS World and post on these forums are reasonable and likeable and helpful people. But there is an undercurrent of overarching elitism that permeates pretty much any and every subject within DCS World. None of these people are pilots, or very few of them are, but there is an expectation that if you're not doing it the way "they" want you to do it, then for some reason you "suck" at the game, and need to be booed at or made fun of or belittled. Before I stray too far of the subject, this is connected to AI, and since the AH64D will probably be the most popular module that ED have ever released, and the AH64D in a way. For some reason if you should even dare rely on the AI, you're not doing it right. If you use the autostart, you're not doing it right. etc. etc. etc. I'm sorry but I just want to have fun in a video game. Yes, reality check, this is a video game. If an AI can provide me with the means of doing that, whether online or in single-player then I would want that AI to be as fleshed out as possible so I don't have to rely on anyone else or on "unrealistic" yes, reality check unrealistic workarounds! A real AH64 pilot can't switch seats mid-flight, and doesn't have workarounds to make that happen etc. Sorry if this offends anyone, it's not meant to, everyone should enjoy their Apache in however way they want is basically the point. I think that Eagle Dynamics are smart enough to know that and that the AI will be robust enough for that to be possible.
  25. Honestly I have no idea. I guess Ill bind what is absolutely necessary and learn to live without the other stuff. Or let the guy in the front do all the other stuff
