  1. So instead of apologizing for being rude, you are doubling down using bogus and overblown mediacentric "facts" and while once again claiming that I have a narrow view of what makes a good fighter jet. Yeah, I'm outa here. Enjoy your echo chamber.
  2. What a rude and presumptuous thing to say! The thread is literally called A case against the Phantom. I don't even own the DCS F16, although I will admit, THAT is it was a great design. Oh and just so you know, my favorite fixed wing aircraft is another Navy bird, the F14. That was truly, a brilliant design. Way ahead of it's time, and from an objective perspective (if cost was no concern) probably the best aircraft the Navy ever fielded. If a modernized version were still fielded, it would wipe the floor with the Bugs and Superbugs in use today.
  3. Phillipccl04 what is your SteamVR resolution per eye? Also what modules do you run? I do all my testing in the Hind, which is significantly more demanding than pretty much every other module.
  4. Anyone who thinks the Phantom was an excellent design is clearly deluded by it's otherworldly good looks. It was definitely a good workhorse design, but it was never an aircraft that really excelled at any one thing. In the competition for it's adoption it narrowly won out against the Vought XF8U-3 Crusader III Which was for all intents and purposes a better aircraft. At least according to test pilot testimony. It could run circles against the Phantom, it was faster, more maneuverable and it was cheaper to produce and operate, however the Navy finally chose an aircraft with two engines and a two seater, settling for less performance but more utility and payload.
  5. Yes there are a lot of improvements that need to be made with regards to the flight model and the various trim settings\AP channels.
  6. I'm hoping for some additions to the Hind. Maybe the new ATGMs, and obviously we need better Petrovich AI, Voice etc. We'll know soon enough I guess.
  7. Yes, but that's only looking at a 50x50m box. So if 75% of the rounds hit inside that box, how many of those 75% hit inside a 20x20m box? How many inside a 10x10m box, and how many inside a 5x5m box? The answer is not 0. Which is all that matters.
  8. Why is this discussion still going strong? There are so many things the Hind needs to get before these NVG should even be considered. It's a fantasy loadout on the P version, for fantasy players so yeah, why not give us Hellfiers on the Hind? Yeah give us Hellfires. There is NO evidence that they were NEVER used on the real Hind right? /s
  9. I might have to break out my Bf109 and go bug hunting today!
  10. No it doesn't. It provides for a way to give people a ride in the backseat. Your statement would be true if it were possible to use the controls from both seats. Since it isn't, at this point I'm gonna assume you're just trolling.
  11. Actually no it doesn't. Unless they've changed something you can't fly the TF-51D in multicrew. One person flies, the other observes. AFAIK there is no way you can switch controls from pilot to copilot in the TF-51D.
  12. I'm not fat or anything, never been prone to breaking out in sweat either. I wonder if I'm maybe strapping it on a bit too tightly to my face....
  13. I bet 2 imaginary cents that it drops this friday
  14. Ok three possible solutions, but I still see a problem. All of this moving air is cooling the rest of your head/body, but how do you cool your face "under" the G2 face mask? Do you guys drill holes or something? In my case this is the part that gets sweaty and uncomfortable basically just the area of my face that's underneath the masked part.
  15. Can I ask you a question? I've been fighting the YAW SAS channel forever now, and I've been thinking of simply getting rid of the spring in my pedals. Do you fly with the YAW SAS Channel off?
  16. You probably could, the question is why would you? If you're going for immersion, then just get VR, I guarantee it will be 1000 times better than any self-made IHADS where you have to keep your eyes centered on the screen as you move your head.
  17. Just to report back, I've managed to get pretty decent performance from my G2, it's now at the same level as I used to have in Rift S at the cost of some lowered in-game graphical settings, but a much higher resolution. The clarity difference is night and day though, even though the sweet spot is smaller. To me it's also more comfortable due to my IPD which is probably very near or even maybe slightly higher than 68cms. In the Rift S this was causing a bit of eye strain. With the G2 that is also gone, which is a big relief. A little caveat. I could probably get this performance to go even a bit higher with mods, but I dislike mods in DCS for one very simple reason. It's hard enough enjoying and playing the beta with the constant tinkering to the "vanilla" beta game, and this beta gets patches pretty often so I'd much rather not deal with potential problems\repairs etc. As for shimmering. A lot of it can be eliminated by MSAA x2 and supersampling using Pixel Density in game, or SteamVR resolution per eye etc. It's a tradeoff. While it is annoying, I have managed to get it down to a very acceptable level. Much more so than in the Rift S. Yes there are problematic static models in the game, the powerlines and towers come to mind, but happily they do not shimmer nearly as badly now as they used to, which does mean that the devs are making tweaks here and there. Finally VR improvements are coming. It's beyond insane at the amount of pure horsepower that we keep throwing at this game and it keeps asking for more. The devs are aware, and the entire engine is getting some big rewrites. Don't expect miracles people, but as someone who bought a 3090RTX purely for DCS VR, as have many here, I think that they know how disappointed we are all going to be if something is not done about this. The graphics market is not exactly very consumer friendly at the moment what with all the price hikes, and hardware shortages. We just need a little patience. With all of that said, one big drawback of VR still remains, that I struggle with daily. However it's got nothing to do with DCS World. How do you guys keep from getting a damn sweaty face when your G2 heats up and gets all nice and toasty?
  18. Back in 2d times, I used ALT+Enter all the time to get a somewhat smoother and more fluid experience in DCS World. (Less microstuttering somehow). In VR I have noticed absolutely no differences in frame times.
  19. Were there any WWII twin seater fighter\bomber\torpedo aircraft, that had dual controls? From the top of my head I can't think of one. Why not produce a full DCS WWII paid module (which I assume would be rather popular) and then provide a (free) version with the weapons removed\disabled as a trainer version? It's a stretch I know but its the only reasonable way that this could be done, since I doubt that a WWII trainer would be all that profitable and make sense as a paid module.
  20. Ye Yep, this was it. Thanks for all the help guys.
  21. I think a free (unarmed) 2 seater warbird is a great idea. Not only for training but as a marketing tool. Somewhat like the Free TF-51 but you could take someone for a ride in the front, maybe get them interested in DCS, and maybe get them interested in multicrew. Maybe make an armed version of the plane as a full WWII DCS module, then just remove the guns for the (free) trainer version.
  22. That hardware is more than sufficient to run the game on 1080p, at high to very high settings. Just make sure you have a decent cooling solution for that i9, they run quite hot.
  23. One other thing to consider. You will never get the clarity and high definition of a 2d monitor. Even with the G2, it's only very clear in the "sweet-spot". I don't have a problem with that, the immersion and depth perception is simply more important to me. Some people don't like that. So your mileage may vary. I'd say, try it out somewhere, wherever possible. If at all possible try and borrow a headset and try it out at home.
  24. I'm at work now so I can't yet comment on what caused this but my guess is: I actually don't put on the headset until DCS loads in. So basically I start WMR, start Steam VR, start DCS and only then put on my headset. That's probably what was causing the issue.
  25. Man oh man, I really hope that Heatblur are not going to do an F4 Phantom. People are so obsessed over that airplane that any single variant they do will make them hated by the people who wanted another variant\s. And there are so many variants of that aircraft. It's a no win situation, for any third party attempting to craft this module.
