  1. This. Although I really hope they give him some personality soon and let him call out launches if he sees them, and respond to commands verbally so I don't have to read the text up in the right corner of my VR headset.
  2. Regardless of how easy or difficult it is to fly the F16 vs the F18, the topic is the Apache AH64D. These are helicopters operated by the US Army. How hard can it be? /ducks for cover
  3. Try flying with PD 1.0 and SteamVR resolution 100% and you will notice the difference In my case I also fly with Ultra Clouds so that might factor into it. With that said, it's always a combination of things, and we both have the 3090RTX, which does make a difference as well so it's a matter of personal preference. Like I said, for jets I too keep it on High. For helicopters in VR, I always recommend Vis distance to Medium, as you don't need it on High, and as a result you can push others settings up to improve your GFX a little bit. (All my testing is done on Syria)
  4. What about this baby? It's probably too new and it's Japanese. But it would be cool nevertheless.
  5. The F111 would probably become one of my favorite fixed wing modules if they ever release it. Second only to the F14. It's the low level interdiction king and it would be perfect for the DCS multiplayer environment because it can deliver a huge payload into highly contested enemy airspace with no need for a screening cap. I don't do a lot of mud moving (other than in the Hind) but this would change if they ever released this baby. It's speed is it's defense. It's a shame that other modules get preference over this beautiful bomber, but it is what it is.
  6. Once again a nice discussion with some decent arguments on both sides dragged into the mud by the person who's claim to an argument is basically repeating the same mantra over and over again, as if that will make it more true. If that doesn't work then it's repeated attacks and hyperbole. Please don't engage people who don't care about facts, or statistics, or logical arguments and present none in their argument. This is the definition of what internet trolls do and crave. If you ignore them they usually go away.
  7. Some good hints from eaglecrash867. Shadows are the big killer. Though I use Low in cockpit and Flat on terrain. I too am still experimenting with my settings, as I am a fairly new G2 owner I might even drop shadows to trade for higher clarity. I disagree that Visibility range doesn't affect performance though, it most certainly does, almost as much as shadows do. Check out Speed-of-Heat's guide to the G2. Anyways @Back on Topic. VR in helicopters is great, and I love VR in jets too but yes it does require quite a beefy rig to get it to work properly.
  8. Well they do know that the C version has the smokeless motor, so if nothing else that leaves merit for it to be included. To me that's not an insignificant difference.
  9. Yeah, educated guesses is not how I would like them to model anything really either. Fact of the matter is that "What it should do..." is in the air. If we don't know what it does, and Heatblur don't know what it does, then anything they decide to change or add is basically guess work anyway?
  10. I'd say that is very debatable. At least compared to the real deal. I'd also have to stress that most people don't have the time or the space or the money or the inclination to get into Arduino control panels, voice attack etc. etc. In any case we all make do with that we got, and that's fine. I'm just saying that the Apache will probably be easier to fly and fight in compared to say, the F18C simply because you can share the workload with another person and there are systems in place where you really can take your hands of the collective and cyclic if necessary.
  11. If you have something constructive to add, then by all means do so, but every single post I've seen from you is an incessant and irrational tirade against any and all aspects of Heatblur's F14 module, and any and all of it's systems. While it makes for fascinating insight into the psychology of a certain type of person, it's getting tiresome. Please stop.
  12. Why else include this system into the seeker design? What purpose does a command-inertial guidance system serve? The logical conclusion that comes to mind is that if the guiding radar loses lock at any point during mid-flight, the command-inertial guidance system takes over and guides to missile to the last known target location in relation to the missiles own position in space, and once the missile arrives, activates the missile seeker. Now this is just an semi-educated guess on my part and could be completely wrong. It might simply be a system that's designed to work with the more advanced F14Ds radar which might be able to reacquire a lost track and re-guide a missile in flight, or something of the kind. But it does kind of sound like the exact same system that the AMRAAM has, or at least it uses the same terminology. Not exactly conclusive proof or anything yeah
  13. That shouldn't be happening unless your system is struggling to maintain 80 FPS. Turn on ASW to Auto in the Oculus Tray tool and leave it there. Then adjust your settings until you feel you can get decent frames. At altitude ghosting should not occur. This usually means that something is slowing down your system way too much. Looks like you have an i58400, that's not a great CPU. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.
  14. One thing comes to mind that will be possible, or should be possible in the Apache. Once you are in a stable hover, you should be able to command an auto-hover. This will free your hands for the head down cockpit switching etc. In VR it's even more difficult due to not seeing what you're supposed to be switching. Most HOTAS systems on the market today are limited, and frankly hitting half remembered keys while effectively blindfolded on your keyboard is a recipe for disaster.
  15. Oh man I would kill for an official Hercules. I would settle for any modern(ish) cargo plane in DCS though as I feel that it would be an awesome addition, especially in multiplayer where currently the only way to ship cargo is via Helicopters. Transporting material and personnel to forward airbases, or recently captured airstrips quickly, to aid the war effort would add another tactical layer to the game. It would also provide more priority targets for enemy jets to engage and destroy. This is great news, all in all.
  16. Never get into a turn fight with the Spit. Use your superior acceleration and top speed and Boom and Zoom. Which means go for an attack pass, and extend. If the Spit turns just keep extending and try and gain altitude. When you are comfortably above the Spit, turn back for another high speed pass. Rinse and repeat until you kill him, or you are bingo fuel (if he is good at evading) and have to turn back to base. Don't worry about the Spit coming after you, he will never be able to catch you.
  17. Here is a really great and informative video on how to effectively maneuver the F14:
  18. That's what the guy in front is for. Seriously though I think you have a pretty big point here. I really dislike convoluted and complicated modern integrated sensory and weapon systems. There is something off-putting about being in the cockpit and colloquially "flying the computer". This is why I can't get into the F18C. It's just too much heads down and managing systems instead of actually, well flying. I do get different strokes for different folks, so I if you're into that, all the more power to you. I'm not, but I will still be getting the Apache, as I have a RL friend who will dedicate himself to weapons employment. We already fly in the Hind together and this is where the fun is.
  19. Everyone also please note Bignewy's remark and comment in this thread. The core ED team are working on engine upgrades, namely Vulcan support and multithreading. It's a huge undertaking but it is coming. Don't expect miracles as initially there will be probably be many bugs and issues and the performance will be iffy at best but once they implement these changes we should have a scalable engine in DCS World (finally) and a lot of optimization should be possible. I think the future for VR in DCS is bright, we just need a little more patience.
  20. Yup, the Hind has considerably more polygons to push than other modules. There is an unfortunate trend in DCS World, where each and every module has more and more detail than the older ones. I disagree with this design philosophy which is skewed towards the GFX and Asset design artists and is detrimental to overall performance of DCS World, especially with regards to VR. I agree that modules & cockpits should look great. But there is a limit to what the human eye can perceive and to how much detail really needs to be in the game. Especially for less important and less visible parts of the modules and other art assets. Do we really need to see that weathering on the landing gear struts? Is it really necessary to see every little dint and dent from weathering in the less accessible parts of the cockpit?
  21. Every system is a little bit different. Some have bottlenecks where you wouldn't expect them. I'd say you need to experiment and see what works best for you. I will say this though, Shadows and Visibility range are usually critical as they are drawcalls and depend on the CPU cycles, so if you're seeing performance issues this is usually where they occur as in 2d the CPU is usually the bottleneck.
  22. Aren't the new Captor radars AESA? Don't get me wrong I'd love to see an AESA radar in the sim, but somehow I doubt that the devs will get clearance to model one even if they do get the relevant information on it's design/operation.
  23. One of the biggest differences between the F14 and most of the other fighters that we have in the game is the lack of a DFCS. At 15 or more units of AOA you need to roll the plane mostly with rudders. It's just the nature of it's design, the shaking of the cockpit will tell you how many AoA you're pulling and you don't even need to look at the gauge once you get the hang of it. I find it to have one of the best flight models in the game.
  24. You can get away with dropping some settings when flying HELOs. The one that usually has the most impact is visibility range, I usually drop it from High to Medium without any noticable difference, yet I do get slightly better performance. In any case VR with helicopters is where it's at. Once you try it there is absolutely no way you can go back to a flat screen. The depth perception is absolutely phenomenal and critical in nailing those tricky landings.
  25. What does Steam overlay do anyway? I think I ticked those off. Not sure why I would need them?
