  1. Just as an aside to this great guide for all future owners of the G2, start fresh. Speed-of-heat has already commented it and I cannot stress it enough. You don't need to reinstall DCS World, but if you're getting a new VR headset delete your options.lua file the metashaders2 and fxo folders before doing anything else. Two things I'm still unsure of, the Mask setting, does it do anything? Secondly motion smoothing, I guess it's akin to ASW but what are the best settings here in SteamVR? Would it be better to force it on, or leave it on enabled?
  2. Just wanted to report back I managed to get good frames at decent detail levels at SteamVR 60%. Still not up to par with your guide but it's start and I think it's decent considering I don't have any of the mods recommended in this guide installed. Will try experimenting some more and see if I can get away with some more detail settings or turning up the SteamVR resolution before I start experimenting with the VR mods. Thanks for all the help to everyone.
  3. Ok I managed to get the focus sorted, it appears it was simply due to space positioning. Num5 for the win
  4. @speed-of-heat Thank. Just to let you know where I am. I cleaned my PC case. Applied new thermal paste to my CPU. And made sure everything was shipshape. I've managed to reset SteamVR to not cause the strange out-of focus problem, by reseting all the settings to default, but as soon as I enter DCS World the issue starts up again and I'm getting weird crosseye isses which seem to be related to IPD. *Note* This occured both in SteamVR and in DCS, but now only occurs in DCS. I will try to delete the options.lua file and and check if it solves the issue.
  5. Actually in this last teaser video it says: Coming 2021 Looks like it's coming along nicely. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced the presale soon.
  6. No worries BN. The problem is usually not in DCS World, but in the myriad of middleware software (WMR\WMR for Steam\SteamVR) and or Windows\DirectX, plus user error which compounds the problems people have. Sure DCS could run a lot better (and I know ED is working on it) however in this case I was just using this thread so I can get some help with setting up the G2 so it can run at an acceptable frame rate. (Maybe if I sort out my issues, it helps others at some point) Since my system is: i5-9600K@4.8 Ghz, RTX3090, SSD M2 NME (exclusive for DCS World), 32 GB ram, and a pretty hefty cooling solution all round it should not be beyond my means.
  7. Damn....this last teaser video. Puts the capital "T" into (T)easer....
  8. For the life of me I can't remember which files are safe to delete, is it safe to delete everything here? %USERPROFILE% \Saved Games\DCS\Config
  9. Nope. 1.0 At least according to the in-game options screen. But I will try deleting all the config files and let the game create new ones just to be sure.
  10. With regards to this discussion that's completely irrelevant. Also it's not completely true, Heatblur has put the F14 on sale, just at much lower discounts than other modules.
  11. Yeah, I don't think Im simply pushing too many pixels. There seems to be a problem with how reprojection is handled. My Rift S used to run smooth as butter. This is with 1.5 PD, MSAAx2 and Ultra Clouds, Medium shadows in Cockpit, Flat on Terrain. Before it all went to hell with the strange unfocused/crosseye vision, I had the G2 running with Shadows Low, High Clouds, 1.0 PD, MSAA x2 and 80% SteamVR resolution. and it still hitched like hell. When I say hitched, not a single action, whether head movement, or plane movment could be performed without significant stutter and frame drops. I will try and run the G2 at the Rift S resolution, but I guarantee that it will have the exact same problems. There is a software issue somewhere...
  12. Would you guys be willing to pay extra for the two modules? Somehow I doubt that what Heatblur did is going to become the norm (2 or more variants for the price of one) it's just too much work, and after release support, etc. etc. etc.
  13. Will do, as soon as I get home from work. Thanks to everyone for the help. Makes me hopeful that I can maybe get this thing to work properly.
  14. I think the biggest problem with a Phantom module in DCS World is the version or type that the developer will choose to develop. If they do a later variant, people will clamor for an early one. If they do an early one, people will clamor for the newest and best. Then there is the multicrew\AI WSO problem which is not a trivial issue to solve. (So far only Heatblur have manged this properly, Petrovich AI for example leaves a lot to be desired but its still WIP)
  15. Hmmm, dropped FOV to 90% as suggested by the guide, and set World Scale to Off. *edit* The problem is that my SteamVR settings look completely different than they do in this guide Is there a "reset all settings to default" in there somewhere so I can start fresh without reinstalling everything?
  16. How many desert maps do we need? I vote Balkans (or former Yugoslavia + maybe some of Italy) or Vietnam.
  17. Thanks. This could be why I'm getting serious performance issues. I will try this.
  18. No I havent tried this. Everything worked perfectly (well apart from the horrible frametimes) this morning I downloaded new Nvidia drivers, and just changed some settings in SteamVR. and now it feels like the focal point of the headset has changed. Would downloading a new driver from Nvidia cause the headset to change focus and go out of alignment like that???? One other thing, in WMR it works fine, however in WMR for Steam and in DCS World, Im getting this crosseyed\out-of-focus strange screen. The worst part of this all is now I'm at work, and all I can think about is how I'm gonna throw that damn headset into the trash as soon as I get home.
  19. Ok this is getting weird now. I've tweaked some settings. And now everything in VR is out of focus or like Im a little bit crosseyed. It was perfect before. Oh man.....I have to say this is getting to me.....What the hell....
  20. Really? With an RTX3090 I should start at 60%?
  21. Hi Nick, I think Im having the same problems. How do I remove the extra 4 ghost monitors?
  22. Well I bit the bullet. Got the Headset. The clarity is great. But the stutters and the jitter....oh boy. Can someone enlighten me though with the setup? I'm following this guide and I can't get the screens Speed of Heat has, and as a result Im unsure what exactly needs to be running and how to set it up. (Outside of DCS World that is) Either the guide needs an update, or I need my eyes checked. So am I right in that I need to have installed in the following order. WMR > WMR for Steam > SteamVR > Add DCS.exe to Steam library and VR How do I setup WMR for Steam? As soon as I run it it goes into some VR mode and for the life of me I can't get it to display and options screen. Likewise my Steam VR screen looks nothing like it does in this guide. Im getting 33ms frametimes, in native G2 res which is frankly unplayable.
  23. I get all that. It's just a personal preference. Just because I'm not into it, doesn't mean I don't get why other people might be. Just not my cup of Tea as the British might say.
  24. I've yet to finish ti. Tried it about 15 times so far, no cigar yet. I feel that if I could at least tell my wingman to engage I could maybe survive this mission but I've yet to figure out how to use the radios in the Hind. Go figure....
  25. Yes, yes it is. I don't think a lot of people know how much work goes into each and every module. Just look at Heatblur's F14 as an example and how much work is going into two airframes that are (apart from the engines) for all intents and purposes almost the same airplane. Heatblur have gone above and beyond with including two versions of the F14 and yet they are harangued on the forums daily for more versions. Check your expectations. This a mistake that Heatblur and all other third parties will not repeat, or in the best case scenarios won't repeat for free.
