  1. I didn't know that the M2000-5 is planned, I thought that they didn't have clearance for that.
  2. On the D model: "If this would change we may reconsider it" - Hardly the same as saying that they want to do it.
  3. I've read PilotMi8s post somewhere on the Russian forums that they are aware of the issues with trim and the AP channels. Let me go see if I can find it. Here we go, it's in russian so translate at your own peril, but from what I can manage to translate it appears they are aware that trim and AP are currently a little bit borked, that they are aware of how it should work and that they are looking into fixing the errors.
  4. It's not completely trivial, nothing about this simulation or multithreading is.
  5. Thank you!! It has been ages since I've flown the Huey campaign, but I remember it to be excellent. Let's hope I can manage it in the Hind.
  6. Does it feature the new weather? Also did anyone test all the missions? Can the Hind do all of them?
  7. Great video. Especially when you factor in the comparison with the Mi8 at the end of the video. There is definitely something weird going on here, no wonder we are having problems with flying this thing. @NineLine please can you get some developers to look at this? Thank you. @BIGNEWY
  8. You got a quote for that somewhere? I've been following Heatblur's F14 project pretty closely since it's inception and I've never seen any of their staff say that. The closest I've seen them comment on the F14D in that regard has been that if they were to even consider doing an F14D the first thing would be for them to have all the proper information.
  9. Dangerzone. Keep your vertical descent below 3m/s in a vertical hover and you will never enter VRS in the Hind. Remember that this is a big, heavy chopper and is more prone to getting into VRS especially when flown close to the limit. The FM will probably be getting improvements as there are many bugs and issues which currently affect it.
  10. It looks like most loadouts will bring the Hind over it's max limit. I will investigate this further and maybe open up another thread.
  11. I think mission makers can already limit loadouts, or at least remove any weapons that they deem unfair or broken. If people start abusing this most servers will "ban" gun pods. Luckily it's not a big issue as they are not exactly heavy hitters, and rockets are more useful in most situations.
  12. Turning off stability augmentation systems is not a solution, that's a workaround. Until this is acknowledged as an actual bug by Eagle Dynamics all I am doing by turning them off is using the helicopter in a way that it was not meant to be used in real life. *edit* What we really need is access to the Mi24P manual. One that accurately describes the AP stability systems, their interaction with trim, and how they are supposed to be used while operating the helicopter. Until we get those, we have nothing to go on. No comparisons to make really and all we are doing is figuring things out as we go, and probably building bad habits (such as flying with the AP channels off)
  13. Have you flown the Huey? Have you flown the Mi8? Compared to them the Hind feels dangerous to fly. I can't describe it any other way. I am seeing the same behavior that Hummingbird is describing. However maybe he is not describing it as well as he could. I don't think the helicopter is "unstable" it flies well enough, in a straight line. However during any cyclic\pedal maneuvres with all the AP channels on, it feels like the AP is fighting my inputs. I can not get the precision I want. Which is completely contrary to what every single report on the Hind's legendary abilities entails. There is also a tendency for pilot induced oscillations in this chopper that I've not seen in the Mi8.
  14. I thought so too, until I tried the 30mm. It's brutal and accurate. Just enough punch to get through light and medium armored targets. It's also very risky to use, since to use one accurately you need to be flying directly at a target, and if it's firing back, well you get the picture.... The V version will not change anything, it's a smaller caliber, and as some have already mentioned requires significant lead to shoot anything properly, there is no targeting computer in the V. At best it would be a good troop suppression weapon, if such a thing were modelled in DCS. Since it is not, it's basically an interesting curiosity. If you wan't DAKKA, i think you're gonna have to wait for the Apache.
  15. I sort of agree with Fenin. However, I still think that there is something here worth looking at. Since the AP channels seem to work flawlessly in the HIP but for some reason require a lot more finesse in the HIND. Maybe it really is down to stick throw, however would the HIP and HIND have such a drastic difference in the cyclic stick throw? (I mean in the real helicopters?)
  16. Just make sure you are not overweight when going in for a hover, or vertical landing and you will be fine. For me the YAW AP works great when taking off and landing, again when I'm not overweight. Usually I don't even have to input any rudder pedal at all as long as I'm watching my vertical descent rate and am careful about wind direction. Important: If you're using AP YAW ON when landing, remember that whenever you input any pedal the channel will turn off. This might cause issues if you're not really careful when you are transitioning to hover. Make sure that all of your corrections and trimming is done on approach.
  17. The ground effect should actually be a cushioning effect that happens when you enter a vertical altitude above the ground that is roughly equivalent to the diameter of your rotor. In my case the Hind behaves as it should, when entering the ground effect it actually stops descending (or slows down by quite a bit). Are you sure we are talking about the same thing?
  18. Agreed. Which is why I believe it is so hard to get the flight models exactly right in any simulation and why it is difficult to detect and remove any errors in the flight model without extensive testing. I would ideally like to hear from some real world Hind pilots (I wonder if there are any on the russian boards) what they think of the DCS Hind. Like I said, I don't have anything to go by except my experiences in the Huey and the HiP, but something "feels" off in the Hind. The simple fact that so many are flying it with the AP Channels off should demonstrate that there is something wrong with them at the moment.
  19. I wasn't that excited for the Apache Longbow. However after flying in the Hind in Multicrew, I have to say that my excitement for this upcoming chopper has increased an order of magnitude. I am having so much fun with a friend just flying around in the Hind, while he is busy learning how to fire and guide the ATGMs that the possibilites that the Longbow will bring to the table in that regard can't be ignored.
  20. Actually no, this is called retreating blade stall. Keep your speed below 350kph, ideally below 330kph and if you start to detect the onset of the stall, decrease collective and try and get into a level attitude. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retreating_blade_stall
  21. Actually no. There should be nothing preventing you from using the Yaw channel basically for 99% of the flight time. The exception being during taxi maneuvers. The way that YAW AP currently works is that it will keep the last set heading for any given torque. Whenever you depress the pedals the YAW channel goes to standby, and switches back on again when pedals are returned to neutral. The upside of this is that it makes taking off and landing in the Hind, very easy. The way it should work, and does to a large extent is that when you release the pedals the helicopter will YAW into that particular heading. BUT.... It appears to be very coarse at the moment. The heading is not set exactly and needs to be corrected unless you are very smooth and coordinated with your pedal and cyclic inputs. Sometimes the helicopter just doesn't want to go where you point it to, and I believe that this is both due to pilot error, and due to some weirdness going on with the AP channels. The helicopter is also prone to weathervaning even in low wind, which is normal. I tried using the chopper with the yaw channel off, and the helicopter became even more twitchy than usual. I would recommend that people either play with ALL AP channels off, or ALL AP channels on. (Other than the altitude hold AP, which is kind of weird and makes me crash when I have it on)
  22. It's not just about the instrument lighting. Firing the cannon in pitch black darkness would completely blind you in the P version.
  23. You're probably correct Southernbear. Still, I think all this talk about DCS "D" version is basically flogging a dead horse over and over again. Heatblur are not going to do the "D" version, they have said so repeatedly and it's all beside the point. Even if their reason is "We don't want to" it's perfectly valid and we should just let them do their thing, whatever it's going to be.
  24. What cordite said. It's quite possible to find a 3090 for almost the same price as the 3080ti, and you get double the VRAM, which is a HUGE help in DCS. Or at least it will be if they ever optimize the engine
  25. Any idea on when we can expect the first of the tutorial series on the Hind? I'm mostly interested in how to fly the thing, taking off and landing is somehow easier than in the HIP
