  1. After messing about some more, I have come to the conclusion that it is indeed Pilot error. Apparently what I didn't realize is that with the YAW AP channel ON, and the dampening ON, the autopilot will move the pedals for the last known trim. So basically even in turns you need to trim the cyclic for the turn, and the pedals will do their thing, all by themselves. It's counterintuitive for most of us, since this is not how it works in the Huey or the HIP. If you trim all the time, she actually flies very nicely. Alternatively use the trim reset button (or even hold it down) if you want complete manual control of the pedals. So, thank you again wowbagger for pointing out where I went wrong. Hopefully this thread will be of some use to others.
  2. After messing around on the Syria test firing range Instant action mission I have come around to this scientifically and empirically derived conclusion: We all pretty much suck at flying the Hind, and have to re-learn how to handle this beast of a Helicopter. I think the OP (solution post) said it all but here are a few more tips from a completely useless Helicopter pilot (me): 1. I'm used to flying with minimal trimming, basically I trim for a certain flight regime and then don't trim again unless I really need to. This is NOT how it should be done in the Hind. Trim, all the time. The way that the YAP AP Channel works is that it tries to yaw for a certain trim. So even in turns, hold down the trim button and turn. Watch in amazement as the pedals do their thing . 2. If you want manual use of the pedals use the trim release button, if you notice that it's yawing strangely, use the trim release button, if you want to do complicated maneuvers, you guessed it, use the trim release button. Better yet, hold it down for that last one. If I think of something else I'll leave it here. Landing this bird is not easy, and it's not because of VRS.
  3. My 2c. It's probably not just the Hind, the recent Cloud fix has tanked performance for those of us who run Clouds on Ultra. I've had to disable MSAA (from x2 to 0) to get stable FPS. This is with Rift S, and a pretty decent Rig, with a 3090RTX, so no couch potato PC at all. I haven't updated my drivers in a while so I will try that. I might even drop clouds just so I can get MSAA back, the shimmer is killing me otherwise.
  4. What? Seriously, you need to bind it twice? Okay, will try this, and report back EDIT: Yes, this was it. One thing is cropping up now, it says weapons are disabled. It didn't use to say that.
  5. So like the title says, no matter which button I bind it to on my Throttle quadrant, I can't get the Petrovich menu to show up. When I use the keyboard preset (I think its CTRL + V) it shows up normally. Anyone else having this strange bug?
  6. Update: Okay, after doing the test that @wowbagger suggested, with the yaw AP channel engaged I can bring her up to a hover, land, up to a hover again and take-off without touching the rudder pedals for the most part but.... And this is a big but. There is still something strange going on here....Once I build up speed the helicopter doesn't want to weather-wane, with the CTRL+ENTER indicator I can see the Yaw channel applying significant right rudder, which can only be countermanded by the hitting the trim reset button for some reason, even though I don't have rudder trim selected in the Special menu of the Mi24p. So...I want to say that this is not a bug and pilot error but how do I get the Mi24 to behave like it is supposed to behave at high speed? So far it is less stable in forward flight than the Mi8 so I must be doing something wrong.
  7. Well said. This was 100% true. If I remember correctly the Serbs at that point had only one fully airworthy Mig29 squadron, and it was basically toothless and clawless. Even a fully functional squadron of Mig29s, with proper GCI support would be hard pressed to do much damage against the full weight of a planned NATO air-offensive. 12 planes are simply not enough, let alone 12 planes with outdated and mostly inoperable technology.
  8. @speed-of-heat Hey Speed, did you notice any changes in the performance of the game in general, and in Syria in particular in VR compared to the previous few patches?
  9. Since you seem to be the exception, care to share what server you and your copilot played on and maybe some other details? Like what you ping was to each other or the server, where you were playing from (same room, town, city, country, continent?) etc. Thanks.
  10. Like the title says, I would like to stream myself playing DCS World in VR, and stream the secondary (2d monitor) output to Discord. Assuming that's possible? Anyone know how to set it up?
  11. What is the performance like in the F14 now, did all of these changes come at the expense of some performance? (Honest question, not trying to troll or anything, my Tomcat is parked for now as I'm in the process of learning the Hind so I couldn't do any F14 tests) Seems like a lot of was added (which is great, not complaining) just wondering what the relative cost is going to be with regards to how it performs in the sim? The Hind seems to be very demanding FPS wise. This question is mostly aimed at all the VR people out there, who tend to notice these things a lot more.
  12. @wowbagger thank you, yes this is exactly the kind of test I had in mind! Hopefully it will clear things up, and maybe we can can close this thread. I will try this ASAP and report back, hopefully without trashing another virtual Helicopter in the process
  13. Ok quick question. I've just rewatched Wags Taxi, Take-Off, Hover video. In the video with the YAW AP Channel on, once he gets the chopper light on the wheels and stable, he slowly keeps adding collective, and the YAW AP channel seems to be inputting all the rudder inputs necessary to keep the aircraft stable. Is this what he is doing? More to the point is this what I was doing wrong all along? Fighting the YAW AP channel? Okay, now I really can't wait to get home after work and try this....I think a lot of people were expecting the controls to be very similar to the Mi-8 and they are anything but that...
  14. As soon as I (re)learn how to fly Helicopters (damn the Hind is sooooo different from the Mi-8) I will be joining this server. Hope you have some nice Syrian missions in place for us by then
  15. I am having exactly the same issue. At first I thought it was because of pilot error (and maybe it still is) or rather because of the dampening of the yaw AP channel. The pedals move much more slowly compared to our imputs. EDIT: I rewatched Wags's taxi, hover and takeoff video. I think we're all under-estimating the AP channels on this bird, they work a little differently from how they do in the Mi-8. With the YAW AP Chanel on, the Helicopter seems to be making all the yaw adjustment when getting into a stable hover from take-off. No pilot rudder inputs necessary?
  16. I'm thinking there is some kind of trimming bug that's related to the YAW AP channel, or the dampening. It's either that, or we are doing something wrong.
  17. Well both I guess, the slow response made it almost impossible for me to get into a stable hover so I thought it was a bug. It's very strange, I thought the pedals would behave like they do in the Mi8 but I guess that's not the case. I think you can chalk this up to pilot error, but I will check again today as I have more time to fly and test. I did add some curvature (15) and a tiny dead-zone (4) to the pedal inputs since that's what I use with pretty much every module, might that affect the dampening channel negatively in some way? I need to also mention that I fly using the MSFFB2 joystick, so using trim on both pedals and cyclic is a no-go for me. Is it possible to fly the Hind without trimming the pedals? (I fly both the Huey and Mi8 in the same way)
  18. Exactly. Which is why it was driving me crazy, at least we managed to get it to work.
  19. Yeah this was driving me crazy, turns out under FFB axis settings you need to hit all three checkboxes.
  20. Except I can fly the Huey and the Mi8 just fine, I have no idea what's going on in the Hind. I have another problem, I use a MSFFB2 stick and it works wonderfully with choppers, however I would like the trim NOT to affect my rudders. I.E. when I press right rudder, that's the input I want. If I release it, I want it to return to 0 input, and if I trim it affects ONLY my cyclic. Is there a way to set up the controls in the Hind so it works like that? Thank you.
  21. Thank You I will try this. This is probably what's causing the issue. I have no way to check now since I'm at work, I was just messing about in one of the Instant Action missions (Syria, weapons employment). It was a hot start so I would assume, that that's a yes. Had little time to play yesterday, hopefully more today, so I will report back on this and provide a track. I however suspect it could be pilot error, and the slow methodical movement of the anti-torque pedals is how it's supposed to be if it's related to the damper switch. I need to check Wag's video again.
  22. Oh, so they are supposed to move like that? Wow, it's very weird.
  23. Yep, no double assignments. It's weird. I push on the rudder pedal, and they move extremely slowly I can't describe it better than that. Inside the control settings panel (the white lines) they move normally.
  24. Anyone else having problems using pedals in this chopper? Pushing Left or Right pedal moves the ingame pedals extremely slowly, making the Hind unusable for me. (They work fine in every other module, as well as responding correctly in the control settings panel)
  25. Not a fan of it either, but I think unless there are some serious changes it's here to stay. It doesn't help that the map changes require entire maps to (re)download, but it is what it is.
