DCS Mi-24P feels very twitchy
Lurker replied to Hummingbird's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Make sure your AP Channels are on. Especially the YAW channel. I don't know why but flying without the yaw channel engaged will change how the helicopter behaves in pitch and make it twitchy. Which is kind of strange. To me this is currently the most difficult helicopter to fly, although it is much easier to land compared to the Mi8. It is also a bit more twitchy in forward flight during course changes, which is again kind of weird, I would expect it to be more stable than the HIP. I know that PilotMi8 was a HIP pilot, which is why I still believe that the Mi8 has the most accurate flight model of all the choppers in the game. I think that there is something off with how the AP channels work and interact with each other and the helicopter trim in the Hind. But I can't base it off anything but a subjective opinion, and the comparison I keep making with the Mi8. It does make some sense as this is a completely different airframe, but on the other hand I still think that there is something strange going on with the FM, or rather the AP channels\trim. -
What about a 3090RTX that has half the performance on this map compared to Syria? How does that figure into being held back by antiquated hardware? I've seen posts to this effect on this thread, and many others. I have the card myself. What we see from one patch to the next is how much better DCS World looks, and that's great, but at what expense? If Eagle Dynamics wants to retain and gain a bigger playerbase, they need to invest as much as, if not more into optimizations. While I do know that some core engine optimizations are coming, from what I've seen very little optimization is done by the texture and 3d artists themselves, and that is a shame. A lot of problems could have been avoided with a better workflow and a better and more modest attitude to system requirements. Especially related to a free map that everyone will want to play. It can still look great, and run great, but not if all regard for hardware limitations are thrown out the window during it's creation. I for one bought the 3090RTX specifically to be able to enjoy DCS World in VR. I am not buying another card 12 months down the line just to enjoy the stutterfest that DCS World will become 12 months down the line. Sorry.

Someone should make a non-combat mission, where you have to transport the helicopter near dusk from one base to another. Maybe on Cyprus, and the objective is to get to the other base just as the sun starts setting. Would be a nice showcase for the helicopter and the beautiful light\weather effects.

Did they add a Marianas range maybe? (I haven't downloaded the map yet, still at work) -
I don't want to use mods, as I play on the Beta branch exclusively and just don't want to deal with the hassle of mods breaking stuff, ruining performance, etc. This falls squarely in ED's lap. They need to get one of their texture artists to take a look at the L39C canopy in VR. It's almost unusable, and should be removed.

Nicely done. Can you share if you have (and which ones) the AP channels engaged while you are doing the maneuver?
-
Someone should try and reproduce that routine in DCS World. Just the first 360 in the first minute of the flight, full right rudder, while maintaining forward momentum in one direction. I don't think it's possible to do that currently with the flight model. I will try it though

ASP-17 sight not working in auto on ground start
Lurker replied to PreyingFox's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm posting here for future reference. I've had this not work for me in multicrew, maybe it's due to this switch. -
I still believe that there is a fundamental problem with the AP channels and how they interact with trim in the aircraft. If you are careful you can fly the bird properly (and I am getting much better at it) but it is nothing like the Mi8 where once airborne and in forward flight the helicopter is as smooth as silk and handles turns beautifully. To me this indicates one of three things: 1) The AP\Trim interaction in the Hind is currently incorrect 2) The AP\Trim interaction in the Hind is correct, and requires very different pilot operation to the Hip. 3) The AP\Trim interaction in the Hind is correct, but a bug exists that does not allow correct application in the sim.

Mouse works fine in VR, using my left hand with it so I can keep my right on the joystick\cyclic is a bit tricky though

Great video as always. Hopefully it will be noticed by the mods around here and brought to the attention of the developers, as he brings up a lot of valid and constructive criticism that can only help with the further development of this module. I'm also looking forward to the tutorial videos on the Hind from vsTerminus as I know that they will be excellent just like with the HiP. I'm still having a little trouble with some of the trimming\AP options in the Hind since it's so different to what I've experienced in the HiP (and much less behaved) but I'm getting better at controlling this thing and hopefully vsTeminus' chjannel will help me fill in the gaps I think that the biggest issues ATM are definitely the desync issues for multicrew, as well as the contextual menu\voiceovers\abilities with Petrovich AI.

Loss of quality and frame rates in Reverb G2
Lurker replied to streakeagle's topic in Virtual Reality
I have noticed the same behavior with the Rift S, which if you will note is a device that pushes far fewer pixels. My system is pretty decent, i5-9600k @4.8 Ghz, 32GB Ram (3200), 1TB SSD, and a RTX3090. Not exactly a slouch, yet for now while I am flying the Hind and while I can get relatively smooth gameplay, I can see that it's using ASW (Oculus's version of motion reprojection)...nearl 100% now which has not been the case before and I've had to drop some settings for smoother gameplay. -
What's it like in VR? I'm currently addicted to VR in DCS and can't go back to flying without it. However, it's really difficult for me to get into a lot of clickity cockpits because of the VR limitations. (Rift S user here) I.E. can't read a lot of the dials, or the MFDs being blurry etc. I might just try it to check out if it's worth it with the Rift S. But what I really need is a better VR kit.

I use a bandana. (Silk scarf, tied around my forehead) Makes me look like a biker, but strangely enough it really lessens the effect of misting to be almost negligible. (Goes away when the device warms up)

So.....when are we gonna find out what the mystery module in development is going to be? (Or at least when are we going to get the next hint? ) -
All joking aside. This is actually a pretty good question, seems like the AI in Petrovich is very, very basic, and it doesn't have to be very complicated considering the workload that is shared between the Pilot and the Operator in the Hind. I wonder if they will be able to pull it off in the Apache, where the guy in the front seat has a lot more things to do and much more complicated systems to work with. It would have been better to post this somewhere else other than the wishlist though.

Thanks, these are good tips.

I'm starting to fly with a friend and wanted to start a thread where people can share their experiences and maybe some advice for people who are only starting out to fly as a two-man team in the Hind. Please feel free to share any tips and tricks that you feel could help out us newbies in this arena. Things like checklists, weapon load-outs, tactics, keybinds, how to avoid sync problems etc. etc. First of all, can anyone share any good PvE training servers\missions with clearly defined objectives that would be suitable for newbies? Thank you.

SSDs. Implementation of new ones.
Lurker replied to Grievo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
DO NOT BUY AN EXTERNAL USB SSD! You need at least a SATA SSD, preferably a NVME m2 disk. It would make a huge difference, not so much in FPS, but definitely in loading times and an overall smoother experience (less microstutters) Check whether what type of SSDs your motherboard supports before you buy one first. -
Usefull hardware / software links.

This is the best Windows 10 Tweak guide I have ever used. I basically used everything in there except for the power plan, as I heard that it interferes with VR. Completely safe (no viruses or malware) however use at your own risk, these are still registry edits that might mess up your system. Set a restore point before starting out, follow the instructions closely, and remember to enable UAC once you've finished tweaking. credit goes to @dukovac for turning me onto this, it has let me regain some of my lost FPS due to Windows Patches and other completely unnecessary crap that Microsoft pollutes our Operating Systems with almost every patch it releases. -
@MAXsenna the stick behaves like it should, everything looks like it's working perfectly in the ALT+ENTER control indicator window. It's just that the helicopter doesn't behave like it should, it's wobbling all over the place no matter how smooth my inputs, there is a lot of PIO (Pilot induced oscillations) a lot of crabbing and the YAW AP doesn't seem to center where I want it to. Please check out this video by VitMAX it describes the AP channel problems that seem to be related to trim it's in Russian so some observational skills are required Watch as he depresses the trimmer, and what happens to the AP channels in the top right corner:
-
Yes, but like you said, you don't trim in turns. Also the system might only be bugged for FFB joysticks. I will try the other setting and report back.
-
Not for me, and it seems to be related to the bug that VitMax described very clearly in the Russian bug section. I use the MSFFB2 stick and the Default Trimming setting in the special tab. The default setting: Press and hold trimmer, move stick to desired position, release trimmer. Apparently the AP channels don't center on the new stick position but only "catch on" when the trim button is pressed down again. Hopefully I will have time to test this today and maybe upload a track. Is there anyone here that uses MSFFB2 (or any other force feedback joystick) who uses the other trimming system. (Where you need to just press the trimmer down to hold the stick in the desired place) It might be a work-around until they fix this. (As long as they acknowledge that the bug exists).

The rudder yaw that keeps from flying straight
Lurker replied to FoxxyTrotty's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
@nazradu my helicopter behaves nothing like this when I try to do a turn. Can you please explain what you are doing with the pedals once you initiate the turn and hit TRIM in this last video at about the 9 minute mark? I think that there might be a bug with the default trimmer settings. You see I have a FFB joystick, which is used differently. I press and HOLD the trimmer button and then RELEASE it when I have it in the position I want it to be in. I'm trying to figure out whether this is the reason why the YAW AP channel (and maybe even the other channels) are not correcting the flight path properly, because I use the default trimmer settings in the special tab, while you use setting that trims when you press the button, and not when you release it.
