  1. but on the flip side they massively nerfed the zoom to match the atflir so now the hornet doesn't have a single good tgp
  2. yeah the wording is misleading. these aren't new HOTAS functions, they've just made the existing buttons TDC-compatible.
  3. yes, the num5 snap view is actually your default camera
  4. if i ever need to adjust the default camera position of a module, i simply adjust the camera in-game then save it to the default snap-view https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/Cockpit_Views no need to manually edit your config files with this method
  5. i think there's 2 fundamental flaws to the hind. first is the cargo compartment, which seems too small to serve as a true troop transport. i have trouble seeing a squad fit inside with all their weapons and gear. on the flip side it adds dead weight and bulk even when unoccupied. should've kept separate things separate, especially when they're all but mutually exclusive. the US solved this problem by using a dedicated utility helicopter (huey) alongside a dedicated gunship (cobra). in practice the hind and mi-8 worked together in the same fashion the 2nd flaw is the aerodynamic design. it feels like the soviets didn't fully appreciate the possibilities of helicopters, but rather viewed the technology in the context of old doctrine and tactics. the mi24 was basically a VTOL shturmovik. the rotors were a means to enable forward deployment; once airborne it morphs into a fixed-wing aircraft. the typical attack profile was to approach the target low and fast, then pop-up and strafe with cannons and rockets. by this time the US had already mated the TOW missile with a huey to create the "attack" helicopter concept. instead of risky head-on attacks with marginally effective dumb weapons, attack helicopters would shoot and scoot with precision missile from standoff range. the hind could never be adapted for this profile because it was too large and heavy and has trouble hovering without the lift generated from its stub wings. the designers obviously understood these problems and decided to fix them with proper, dedicated attack helis like the ka50 and mi28.
  6. if DCS were an actual simulator then the ka-50 and su-25t wouldn't be in the game at all
  7. it's worth mentioning that the actual devs don't read the english forums. you'll have much better chances of bringing this to attention of the relevant people by posting on the russian subforum, even if it's through google translate
  8. joined the PG server, couldn't spawn on the carrier. i presume because it requires the super carrier DLC? if so please include the regular carrier alongside it like all other servers
  9. there is a substantial 400+ page manual, it's found in your DCS install directory -> mods -> aircraft -> f18 -> docs. they tend to wait for features to pile up before updating it, but you can watch wags' videos to to learn in the meantime. he always uploads brief tutorials for the newest features as they're released early access is nothing more than a marketing gimmick
  10. probably mentioned already, but would like to see bindable axes for the jester menu. basically be able to use it with an analog stick instead of just head tracking
  11. also worth mentioning that the IN ZONE indicator is broken, don't be confused if you do everything right and your bombs plop short of the target
  12. the memory usage is ridiculous. with 32gb of ram i regularly see 90%+ allocation and paging file activity, so even 32gb isn't enough. and apparently they want to add cyprus on top of this?
  13. litening has much higher zoom as shown in the screenshots, and can be center-line mounted for better balancing and less masking. the only minor advantage of the atflir is that it doesn't rely on the FOV hotas button, so it doesn't suffer from maverick missiles "stealing" your FOV button even when not SOI. in its current form i see no reason to prefer the atflir
  14. DCS has enough early/mid cold-war units to create an environment in which the hind can be survivable and effective, but obviously this will depend on mission makers and server operators
  15. it either can or it can't. all indicators point to can't. what is there to "discuss"
  16. all of that is possible without ballooning the sys requirements to hilarious levels
  17. you also have to wait for INS ATT calibration to complete before using stored heading, otherwise the INS ATT advisory won't clear and you'll have to restart the entire process
  18. but how many of those weapons actually exist?

    TXDSG

assuming you can transmit TGT points, you would simply use the WPDSG box to turn a wpoint/mpoint into a target point. a10's datalink is basically the same concept with different terminology (SPI vs TGT, etc.)

probably another case of ED refusing to make the logical bridge in functionality because they don't have explicit documentation or w/e. the SA page already has a slewable cursor along with target-locking using the STEP button. i find it very dubious that TDC depress wouldn't at least offer the same functionality, if not slaving sensors altogether
  21. With HMD enabled and no targets tracked on radar, the Aim-9x can be aimed by placing its "FOV circle" visually through the helmet sight. Holding Cage/uncage will cause it to track a target (working as expected). With a target locked in ACM, the seeker is automatically slaved to the radar. Looking around with the HMD does not display the "FOV circle" and the seeker continues following the radar (working as expected). The problem starts when tracking a target in LTWS, STT, or TWS. In these cases, the seeker will be slaved to the radar only when looking forward through the HUD. Looking around with the HMD will cause the missile to stop being radar-slaved, and display the "FOV circle". However, it is impossible to lock a target and the cage/uncage doesn't work. It's as if the radar-slaving and HMD tracking are conflicting with each other and cancelling out. I suspect there is either an implementation flaw and the seeker should be radar-slaved at all times as with ACM, or the HMD is meant to override radar-slaving and the cage/uncage button is simply bugged. aim9x.trk
  22. is the 'AI planes parking start (AI starts in flight if disabled)' option not working for anyone else? when disabled AI planes are spawning on the runway instead of in-flight
