Could the Rendering on the 2D and VR Be Causing FPS Issues?
GunSlingerAUS replied to Womb_Raider's topic in Virtual Reality
Nope, no difference. -

Watched the first vid and the video seemed very stuttery. Do you notice the same thing when watching that clip? It's strange, as YouTube generally smooths that out with its motion interpolation.

Colour me envious! I spent over 100 hours trying to get my Reverb to run like yours, without sacrificing image quality too much. Unfortunately I wasn't able to - can I ask what kind of graphics settings you're running, especially MSAA, Steam SSAA and shadows?

Will Patch 2.5.6 include any updates to the F-14?
GunSlingerAUS replied to Belphe's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This is true, but we shouldn't see numerous bugs to the extent of 2.5.6. Compared to the dozens of other betas I'm in, the latest patch was unfortunately very disappointing. -
PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
GunSlingerAUS replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm setting up an Obutto cockpit with a 55inch 4k OLED TV. Can I still use this device to activate switches, or does it need a HMD for the sensor mount?- 3421 replies

We're getting these core updates for free, so I think we should give ED a break if things are a little buggy when first launched. I'm sure they'll have a fix soon, and in the meantime we can play 2.5.5

We can never have enough Tomcat scenarios, so thank you veryich for putting in the hard work to create a campaign. I'll be sure to check it out when my new stick arrives.

It would be a fantastic feature. -
Best news for 2020: Focus on CORE of simulation
GunSlingerAUS replied to wilbur81's topic in DCS 2.9
It does sound amazing, though I have heard the exact same upcoming improvements for over 5 years. So while it's great that ED has made this announcement, I'm not very optimistic that we'll see much progress on these areas. Please ED, prove me wrong! -
BTW, no need to waste your time installing notepad++. A decade ago maybe, but today's notepad is just fine for cfg files. See, aren't you glad there are people who know what they're talking about so you don't waste time doing irrelevant crap?
-
It sure will, along with some other pertinent data. Well worth the price of a good cuppa Joe.

Their support surprised the heck out of me. When my first Reverb died, they sent out a new one 2 days later, without needing to check the dead unit. And somehow along the way they sent me another working unit for free! So now I own one dead and two working reverbs :)

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I was trying to say that over 45 fps the reprojection becomes dynamic, switching on and off, which leads to jerky movement. It's in the article I linked to just above, which I think was written by Valve to explain how that tweak works. But there is no way of totally disabling reprojection under 45fps. A benchmark would allow us to accurately test the many VR performance tips that are floating around, of which many sound like they're placebo.
-
Here's the thing though - isn't reprojection always enabled for WMR devices, unless they go above 45fps? In which case the tweak mentioned here, and which I posted a link from Valve about, only changes the behaviour above 45fps? As far as I can tell, there is no way to totally turn off reprojection on WMR devices. And that's my whole point - we need to use accurate information to get reliable consistent results. Right now most of the VR advice here is contradictory and incorrect. That's also why I think DCS should have an integrated benchmark, which would be incredibly simple to implement.

Sure, but they also have to accept that I'm allowed to share my opinion of VR. Given the huge number of posts on this forum where people are asking how they can improve their VR experience, I think it's helpful for these posters to know that they're not doing anything wrong, despite being told otherwise by the VR lobbyists!

Based on every other Vulkan port in the past, expect no more than a 10-15% boost. Though I'm sure you'll get something like 200% on your magic PC! :music_whistling:

Have you tried resetting the command to default?

This is a public forum, and I'm allowed to point out the issues with promotional videos selling expensive HMDs. If we don't discuss these problems, people will buy the new Pimax and possibly end up disappointed. I was simply stating that the Pimax promotional video was set up in a set of circumstances that don't reflect the true experience. As for stuttering in 2D with TRACKIR, I get a solid 60fps with everything maxed. It's smooth as silk, and looks gorgeous. I can't wait for the day when VR looks as good. For that to happen, DCS must meet the minimum framerates VR required, as set out by Valve, Oculus and the other VR stakeholders. Currently it run at around half that.

If you can wait for the 3080 Ti in June-ish, go for it. If you can't, or you have money to spare, grab a 2080 Ti now. The Reverb eats up every ounce of GPU horsepower, and then some. You'll also need a beast of a CPU due to the way the EDGE engine of DCS calculates shadows.
-
And that is exactly why I think it's important that we use clear, accurate language around VR, as well as understanding the tech behind it. Many of the super-fans clearly have no idea how VR works, and make outrageous claims about how perfect it is. Apparently if you happen to notice some of the many faults, you don't how to set up a PC.:helpsmilie: I bought a Reverb based on the opinions of a couple of people in here; for many people, spending AU$1200 on a HMD they don't use would be incredibly annoying. Personally, I'm happy to shelve it until the rest of PC hardware catches up to the Reverb's demands, hopefully when the 3080 Ti lands.

Hey mate, have you even read this document? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality I read it months ago, pretty sure I've got a good idea of the tech. I'm not sure why you get so upset when I clarify your vague comments.
-
Yeah, while I love 2D's glorious graphical detail and smoothness, I still hunger for that real world feeling of VR. Hopefully the 3080 Ti has enough grunt to deliver the framerate I need for my Reverb.

Btw guys, please don't think I hate DCS in VR. I do not, and in limited situations, I personally find it the best way to fly. When it works well, it's simply amazing. However, there are clear limitations currently when flying more complex scenarios, and I think it's only right that we should be open about this. Claiming that it is perfect does not help those whose viewpoint differs from yours. People with less hardware knowledge may think they've done something wrong with their PC, when in fact they haven't at all.
