  1. I have disabled it. No more yellow flashes. However, there are still some graphical glitches, but they're relatively minor. G-Sync/Freesync seems to magnify them into the yellow flashes above the horizon, or black flashes for AMD users. Fortunately, the stuttering caused by the new damage model seems to be fixed. I still would prefer to fly with G-Sync on though, because it's much smoother when framerates drop below the monitor's maximum (which for me is 75 Hz, I'm using an HP Omen 32" monitor.) AD
  2. Can confirm than the newest update gives a LOT less stuttering now. The original version of the new damage model was terrible--the newer one runs much smoother. So, all we have left to deal with is the stupid yellow flashing (black flashes for AMD graphics card users) that seems to me to be caused by Freesync/G-Sync. With Freesync/G-Sync turned off, there are no flashes, just a few graphical glitches here and there. The flashing seems to be caused by an inherent glitch in the sim, but is made into big, obvious yellow/black flashes whenever Adaptive Refresh (Freesync/G-Sync) is enabled. We're part-way there. ED just needs to focus on eliminating the flashing now, with the dreadful damage model stutters eliminated! Peace and happy warfare AD
  3. Because at low speeds, the airflow through the radiators is reduced and they aren't big enough for adequate cooling. The solution is to throttle back so the engine survives and drop the nose to speed up. Using larger radiators would just create excess drag, slowing the aircraft down. That's why the radiator in your car has fans on it--to provide enough cooling airflow even when driving at lower speeds. AD
  4. Nobody knows if they fly like the real thing. It's a video game for entertainment, not a military training simulator. It's probably pretty decent, but there's no reason to think that these modules really handle and perform like the real aircraft other than that we like to believe it :) AD

It's possible that these bugs remain because the current version of DCS if going down the drain eventually and the module developers can't be bothered updating soon-to-be-obsolete modules anyway. ED is working on a new graphics engine that uses Vulkan API for graphics, and there are also supposed to be major changes in the main simulation engine coming along, such as the damage modelling, initially for WW2 fighters, as well as improved VR support, and numerous other changes. So, there's no initiative for continuing development of modules that already exist, when they're working on adapting them to the new simulation engine that hasn't even been released yet. In other words, ironing out bugs like this might happen after the newer version has been released (Vulkan API) and not before, because they just have to re-code everything for the new version anyway, so there's no point in flogging a dead horse. See what I mean? AD
  6. I'm 43 going on 12 :) Messed around with combat flight sims since I was a kid. Still suck at dogfighting, and consider myself lucky if 1/4 of my bombs take out any tanks/trucks instead of just leaving smoking holes in the dirt :) AD

  8. If you have to ask, no it isn't worth it. If you're having thoughts like this, don't bother buying one. Only buy it if the cost is fairly trivial for you. Remember, you'll still be playing exactly the same game as you already are right now :) AD
  9. None whatsoever as far as I can tell. I'm hardly an expert, but it flies exactly the same way the original A-10C module flew, which is a bit doggy compared to what we've all seen in numerous videos. So, no improvement :( AD
  10. The Ka-50 is a nifty machine. It's unique and looks badass, and the thing to keep in mind is that the Autopilot works in three modes, with 4 buttons for the pitch, roll, and yaw axes (Channels) and altitude hold. There is also another Mode button beside them for switching between Attitude Hold and Flight Director modes. Attitude Hold: the three axis channels are turned on (buttons lit up) and the Mode button is set to Attitude Hold. The helo tries to maintain a constant attitude, and you must hold down the Trim button (press T) to maneuver the heli. After releasing the Trim, the heli will try to maintain the new attitude that you left it in. Flight Director: the 3 axis channels are also on, but the Mode button is in Flight Director mode--which is damping only, without attitude hold. You can just fly the heli around like this, without holding the Trim button, and the autopilot only adds dampening to smooth out your flying. Pressing and releasing Trim only determines the stick center position. Autopilot Off: None of the 3 axis channels are on. You fly "raw" and have to do everything yourself, which is a handful :) ...There's also an Altitude Hold button if you want to use that. So, I'd heartily recommend the Ka-50 just because of its versatility and nifty-ness :) AD
  11. Greetings everyone, As per thread title, I've noticed that especially on WW2 fighters, pieces of the 3D model are missing--especially when a plane is damaged. Pieces of a wing appear completely missing until I get really close. It's been that way for a while. Does it have anything to do with Nvidia settings, such as Negative LOD Bias Allow/Clamp (still not sure what that does!) or something else? It's not game-breaking but weird and shouldn't happen. Anything I can adjust or edit? Thanks AD

  13. I really have no idea, but I can't imagine wanting to fly into combat with *any* visible lights on, including ones in the cockpit if it's dark outside, for pretty obvious reasons :) No point in broadcasting your presence to a bunch of guys that want to fire missiles at you. AD

  16. Really? What does IPv6 actually do, as far as Internet use is concerned? I heard it was only there to allow a greater number of addresses, or does it actually do anything cool besides just that, such as lower latency/fewer errors/higher transfer speeds on the same hardware? AD
  17. The ground handling of these aircraft was so hairy it was damn near legendary. Tiny, lightweight plane. Whopping powerful engine, and huge propeller. Narrow-track, taildragger landing gear that gives the ground handling properties of a three-legged ass that's had a few too many beers. Oh yeah, you can't see anything in front of you on the ground, either. Many young pilots were killed just trying to learn how to take off and land these metal monsters. World War 2 wasn't all guts and glory, a good portion of fatalities were attributed to young people just trying to learn to fly an airplane type that no young inexperienced pilot has any business trying to fly in any situation except a desperate, all-out war. Never flown before? Hell, never seen an airplane before? No problem, here's a little introductory course, and now we'll put you in the seat of an 1800 horsepower fighter. Good luck! AD

  21. Greetings, Gripe as described in thread title. DCS simply refuses to display any servers. Tried running a DNS cache flush. Tried forwarding ports. Nothing helps. Any ideas? AD
  22. So, it does make a difference, but only really noticeably in 'busy' areas--close to the ground (high LOD) and lots of complex objects such as aircraft. It's what I would have suspected, since Windows has to use some (or a lot) of your system RAM as if it were video memory, despite having a hefty amount of video memory, 11GB (same graphics card as me). Entertaining little vid at the end there, rolling around in the A-10 and clobbering all that expensive hardware... You're gonna get a ticket for reckless driving :) AD
  23. Good ol' MiG-21. The airplane that flies like a shotgun slug, with the top speed of a shotgun slug, has the wing loading of a shotgun slug, has the cost-effectiveness and combat-effectiveness of a shotgun slug, and lands like a shotgun slug :D AD
  24. There are posts about it on the forums. I can't recall which ones or where they are, but a part of ED's agreement with the manufacturer apparently doesn't allow them to exactly model the A-10. AD

Not like you need an armchair pilot like myself to tell you this, but that's pretty badass :) Anyway, it's widely regarded that the A-10 module in DCS World does not perform and handle exactly like the real thing. It was done this way deliberately because either the aircraft manufacturer, or the US Government, or both, refuse to allow it. Being an attack aircraft, it just has to reasonably represent the overall 'feel' of the A-10. You can fly it around and blow sh*t up like a real A-10, but it's not a true simulation of the airplane in the flight performance sense. This is disappointing to all of us since that's what we're in it for, but since you're in the military... well, you know, Big Gubbamint makes dem rules, and everyone else follows dem rules, or somebody's gonna have a bad day. DCS World is a very convincing combat flight game for those of us that like that sort of thing. But, despite being spoken about as such, it is *not* actually a high-fidelity simulation that is suitable for training real-life combat pilots. It's for general public entertainment, not for you (or your wing-buddies) to use as a training tool for flying real combat missions in a specific aircraft type. It's supposed to be pretty good, and is very convincing--but a "simulation" it ain't--not in the actual military sense. That's why the DCS A-10 doesn't fly like your actual real-life Hog, it's a part of the agreement that Eagle Dynamics has with the real A-10 manufacturer and/or US military/government/fat cats in suits that said "no". Your Powers-That-Be don't want terrorists using a video game, of all things, to train them to steal A-10s and use them against the US of A. Fair enough, I say.
