Need Helicopter Hotas recomendations.
Sandman1330 replied to BranchPrediction's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Haha, I am a helicopter pilot, and that’s how she works. There is zero feel in the cyclic, if you feel any resistance it’s time to write her up :smilewink: I’ll stop derailing this thread now. :music_whistling: edit: ok one more! -

This is incorrect. There is no centering force on a RW cyclic. Force Trim holds the stick in it's current position, but does not recenter it. For example, if I'm in forward flight, my cyclic is quite forward of center. When I release the FTR button, the cyclic stays in that position - it does not return to center. DCS simulates FTR by having the stick return back to center, but it's not realistic behaviour - it's a simplification to make it easier to use sticks that have centering springs. Haha, yup! That's what it's like flying a helo without a force trim system (like an EC120 or Jetranger). You literally have to be holding the cyclic at all times, or it will flop over (and so will the helicopter!) -
I think I will be buying a reverb from a store with a 30 day return policy (Microsoft store had this for my CV1, so hopefully they will for reverb) If I can’t run reverb, I’ll return it for a Rift S.

Logitech X56. It allows you to remove the spring entirely, which is how helicopter cyclic work (no centering spring). You can then put the spring back in easily within 30 seconds to fly fixed wing. -
Warthog vs X55 stick springs

I bounce between the 2 middle springs. -
Warthog vs X55 stick springs

I found a touch of heavy oil or grease (I used assembly lube) on the bottom of the disc that holds the spring in place really helps reduce the notchiness, it helps the disc slide against the base. -
Thanks Wags! Oh man, now I’m not sure between Reverb and Rift S! I had my mind made up until now... Do the new touch controllers work in game? I understand that WMR controllers don’t, and I’ve gotten very used to using touch controllers to manipulate switches...

Is it me or is the F14 getting owned in multiply Player?
Sandman1330 replied to budguy68's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yeah that would make a huge difference! -

The Hornet controlled by a human (I always have a hard time saying “flown” when talking about a game lol) will bleed energy very fast in a high AoA pull, but will retain the ability to control and point the nose well into single digit speeds. This is good and bad. It allows you to nearly turn on a dime and get the snapshot that few other aircraft could (as you see me do in Hummingbirds tacview), but if you miss you will be low on energy, so don’t miss! (Which I did in that video, and paid for it) :) -

Yeah, what hummingbird didn’t show you is the 10 other tracks where I smoked him, sometimes only a half turn post merge :megalol: I say the above in jest, we had a real good time and will no doubt be back at it again soon. By the end we were very evenly matched. The only thing the Tomcat would do that gave me any real angst was force a 2 circle rate fight at less than 300kts. In that specific case, the Tomcat would outrate the Hornet. At 300-350kts, the hornet easily out rated the Tomcat, and had enough energy to bring the nose into lead pursuit for the guns shot. Other than not allow him to force a slower rate fight, I’ve yet to find a counter to that tactic - but I will! It seemed in the vast majority of cases outside this one tactic, the Hornet had superior turn, and did so with much lower pilot workload. -
No issues for me, even while dogfighting

This explains sooo much!

Please tone down some of the directi fire accuracy
Sandman1330 replied to Mr_sukebe's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yeah, their 12.5mm and 14.7mm guns mounted in the tanks, BTRs and BMPs are snipers. They take down the A10 despite having just received a dose of 30mm in their faces. Maybe some type of suppression effect could be tied in with this fix, if it is considered! -
Wish: MP3 player option rather than walkman

I think it’s reflective of the quality state the Tomcat released in that our biggest complaint is with the music player! -
Disregard - I know why I think. The LST must be part of the WWII assets pack, which is not installed on my server. I'll try installing it and see what happens...

Hey all, Strangest problem. I have a Marine invasion that can be spawned from F10 as part of my server mission that allows players to jump in and provide CAS to support the Marines. On late activation are a couple of Oliver Hazard Perry Frigates and 3 Landing Ship Tanks (LST), as well as Marine AAVs and LAV-25s that storm the beach. When I test the mission offline, everything works fine. But when I run it on my server, the LSTs do not spawn. Everything has been done using the vanilla editor, no scripting. The spawns occur through simple late activation triggers (F10 menu turns a flag to true, which activates all the groups). The mission is huge, so it's a bit hard to post. If need be I can try, but I thought I'd just put out the ask if anyone has seen this before?

Yes, exactly. Radar search beams cast a very wide net, and would register on RWR of all aircraft in the area. Tracking beams are extremely narrow, in the area if 2 degrees. if you are not the target of that beam, you would not receive an indication of track or launch. It would be possible as stated to catch a reflection or side lobe, but it would be rare and only intermittent. I’ve reported the DCS bug here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221983

Concur, I always found this a bit off myself.

Haha, great idea! The only problem is I often catch myself with bad habits... Doing our tac low flying, sometimes I almost forget to fly OVER the high tension power lines, because we aren't allowed to do it in real life but it's so easy in DCS!
-
Haha, one of the primary reasons I fly the Huey in DCS is to do things they won’t let me do in real life :pilotfly: The best part is I often find out why I’m not allowed to do it when I end up a smoking hole in the ground!

I wonder, if I place the paid carrier in a multiplayer mission, will all clients who spawn or land on it require the paid module, or will they still be able to use the basic functionality just without the extras?
-
Not a great idea in real life, this puts extreme stress on the tailboom and can lead to LTE and a while host of other dangerous conditions! Not to mention your door gunner will kick your ass for giving him 100kts of wind in the face :bash:

While straight and level at 15-50ft, lead with a significant collective drop. Use aft cyclic to maintain altitude (maintaining altitude is key), speed will bleed quickly. If rotor spools up, slightly increase collective to check it, and lower the nose to avoid ballooning. Now the most important part: approaching 40kts indicated, increase power significantly and level the nose. Do this before you lose TL and start to sink. If you “load the blades” as we call it before losing TL, you won’t enter VRS. You should now be about 20kts or less and at 15 or so feet, just drive forward and down, level attitude, and drive it on. On touchdown, if you have some forward speed, slowly lower collective to avoid a sudden stop and rocking. Keep the skids aligned with the direction of travel if you have any forward speed on! I do em in real life all the time, tons of fun!
