rotors and props causing hud/cockpit squiggle wierdness
Ratcatcher replied to wingsuit's topic in Virtual Reality
Its the Rifts way of ensuring high frame rates, called ASW. It locks FPS to 90/45. Quote from their web site: "Oculus is releasing a new technology aimed at reducing system hardware requirements while maintaining content quality across a wider array of hardware. Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) is a frame-rate smoothing technique that almost halves the CPU/GPU time required to produce nearly the same output from the same content. Like Asynchronous Timewarp (ATW), ASW is automatic and enabled without any additional effort from developers." However it causes graphical "weirdness" on the prop graphic. Disable it by hitting Ctrl and No.1 on the keypad. -
As others have explained, I hadn't ever really thought about it until I watched a really interesting documentary on TV about things designed to fail ( metal road barriers, fuses, etc ) In amongst the other items they showed a really interesting bit about the ejection process and by engineering the "failure" of the glass prevented injuries/death, I thought at the time "hmmm, yeah that makes sense!" LOL.

requested Way to turn off the "Look at" select option??
Ratcatcher replied to skunk160's topic in Virtual Reality
+1! VR doesn't seem to be getting much love recently from the devs. -
I was thinking the same. Looks excellent, can not wait to try this baby out! Keep up the good work!

What he said!!! Of course all that had occured to me, but your explanation is so much more succinct than I could manage...maybe...kind of...:smilewink:

Thanks, I will have a go at that mission and see if I get any joy.

Gee, now Im sure my crew chief said they had loaded TOW's, you just can't get the staff these days! Thanks for the explanation, I can hit OK using them but the manual made it sound as if it tracked automatically, anyhow, thanks again!

Hey all, Been recently playing with the Gazelle a lot and trying my best to understand it all. So far I am having trouble engaging a moving target with the TOW's. Having read the guides I have tried selecting ASS ( Asservi ) to lock the target but it doesn't seem to do anthing??? Is it me or is this feature not working, any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I'm lucky as I previously backed the WW2 kickstarter, however my 2 cents... In ED's defence they have given people a choice with the option of just the map, the asset pack or both. They have already said how they think Normandy will be a great map for helicopters. So for those that want a highly detailed map that you can fly helo's on you can just purchase that. I can see how people don't like where this could go, I however would like to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I think you just completely read that wrong... unfortunately. As the title of the thread is Nevada, I think its likely that was what Wags was referring to.

Oculus and getting back to desktop + pop-in
Ratcatcher replied to deanbrh's topic in Virtual Reality
Yikes, you can get VD in the Occulus Store!!! Blimey, best keep an out out for that VR experience, I've heard of immersion but theres a line buddy! ;) -
I have had a go with them as well. Looks promising but as others have said, I can not actually select anything with them. Theres also no animation of movement with the fingers if you click any of the buttons. Also no way to reset the view point/posistion of the gloves. Unless I'm missing something? Definitely interesting times ahead though!

Dear oculus rift cv1 users. Is it really worth it!
Ratcatcher replied to boedha68's topic in Virtual Reality
Short answer...Yes! I wear them all the time and have zero issues with them and the rift. Occasionally I have worn my glasses, which are uncomfortable, hard to put on right with the rift and just adds another layer to whats on your face. I haven't tried the prescription lenses you can buy for the rift, I would imagine they are a good fit, but probably cost as much as getting contact lenses. -
Ah, sorry, should have seen that in your sig. I wonder if its going to be implemented? I didn't realise it had to have code added to make it work. Is it widely supported in other modules?

Going back to how you know when your wheels have come off the ground. I wonder if using a "sim seat" solution would help? As you should actually feel the difference from ground rumble to the airborne state and could correct accordingly.

I'm in exactly the same boat and am trying to find a long molex to sata cable. Could you say how long a cable did you find and from where please? -
... for you. @Bart If you display your fps and look to see if they are capped at 45. If they go higher you know its off.
-
Yep ASW is awful with DCS. Also effects the gun sight making it blurred on the Spit, best avoided.

Thanks for posting this. I'm away from home till the weekend but will be sure to check this out when I get back!

Ratcatcher replied to boedha68's topic in Virtual Reality
OK I wont bang on too much about how great it is (...it is BTW) I would just say this. I used to have a triple screen display with TIR, even had a fourth touch screen monitor working at one point with HELIOS. Doesn't compare in the slightest to the feeling of VR and I would never go back to flying without it now. A cousin (who is also a keen virtual pilot) kept telling me "I'm hanging on as I don't want to be an early adopter...the resolution isn't good enough at the moment...etc, etc" He came over for new year and had a go on mine his words were "This is astonishing" among other ooohs and argghhhhs. He ordered one the next day. -
ESSAY, PART 3: Landing and stopping.
Ratcatcher replied to Chief Instructor's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Just wanted to add my thanks for spending the time to explain this. I have had many a "oh so that's why it did that" after reading your essays. Tail draggers are a complete new experience to me so your instruction has been invaluable! -
Request: Disable "zoom-in" effect when using Zoom in VR
Ratcatcher replied to Istari6's topic in Virtual Reality
+ another 1! I also find the zoom function unnatural and uncomfortable to use.
