  2. I just use the numbers that work for that particular plane. If I need to dial in 150 for takeoff and about 140 for landing then I'll do just that. If I really want to know my altitude or speed in metric. I just hit F2, on the bottom you'll see your readouts in the system you set in options.
  3. Contrails pop in and out of view depending on the level of zoom. I can typically see the model just fine. Track attached [ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5b-ZUmSpv4]Video[/ame] ( sorry about the layout, if you go 1080p and fullscreen you should be able to see it ) What were you doing that caused, or seemed to cause the issue? Sometimes you wont know, sometimes it doesn't matter, but better to try and include it so ED Testers or Team can try to reproduce themselves. Zooming in using the "zoom view" function under axis controls. Could you reproduce it? Bugs should be reproducible, you should be able to have it happen to you again before reporting it. It always happens. What module where you using, and does it happen with others? If you get a bug with the A-10C try it with another module, it could be the A-10C causing the issue, it could be the sim, and investigating you do now, makes it quicker for ED to diagnose. Testing proved positive in: F15C Su-27 F86 A10C at this point I assumed it occurs in all. bug.trk
  4. the patch is now also over 2GB, maybe they crammed in more goodies :) And guys please, it's better that they test and try things now with a 'small' patch now so that things work when DCSW 2 and the NTTR is released. If you want them to move to steam, you'll have to accept that 30% of their income will be spent on DRM and downloads instead of nice things like new planes and maps.
  5. there's a whole part of the forum dedicated to it. I don't know how you missed it :) here's a link http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=340
  6. completely agree. I'm doing 500kB/s.
  7. I expect that to be part of the europe 1944 project with the normandy map et all.
  8. dehavilland vampire also planned.
  9. I have to disagree. absolving the hitpoint system for a probability curve sounds like a lot of work without really moving the sim forward. I hope that one day we'll have a really good damage model that approaches realism and until then the hitpoint system is fine, in my opinion. Nobody wants to pray to the random number gods that the tank will blow. I also wonder what you do with your CBU 97's to claim their Pk is low. Perhaps you fuze them to high or to low or you're just not accurate?
  10. yes. it's called padlock.
  11. wouldn't you need bleed air to get spool the engines up though? or purely electronics training? :)
  12. well, actually learning them would be a nice job for the trainers, alas. None of them have a real BFM training campaign. I notice you mention your rudders, maneuvres and an Su-27. You generally don't want to use the rudders much, if at all, when doing maneuvres in a fast mover like that. It's much more preferred to instead roll into your turn, and then use the powerful elevators to actually actuate the turn. So roll sideways, then pull up. If you are looking into learning BFM, I honestly don't think the wikipedia page about it is a bad place to start. It's obviously not the best source for learning but it will help create some understanding on how and why. The link I will give you takes you straight to a list of maneuvres but do scroll up a bit to read on the principles of BFM as well. It's not just a matter of getting behind a bad guy, you must take energy into consideration as well. Energy is altitude and speed. You can dive to convert altitude into speed and you can climb to turn speed into altitude. This is why a split-S, Immelmann turn or chandelle turn is typically better than a flat turn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_fighter_maneuvers#Maneuvers you could use a tool like Tacview to analyze your own flights.
  13. same problem in other planes? what happens when you reset the trim? Is it possible you have one of the autopilot modes turned on by accident?
  14. the planes are 100% the same. You can buy the flaming cliffs pack to get a lot of planes at a good deal, especially since it's on sale right now. The standalones are for if you, say, care only about F15C. The FC3 pack has planes not sold as standalone ( MiG29A,G,S variants. SU-33 ) but they may be of a lower quality compared to the other planes.
  15. thanks for your comment, sith. I wasn't having any serious expectations of an F16 untill ED would anounce it. Just a bit of speculation on what the next project might be, looking for what the devs are letting slip, like the next "what are those F5s doing there?":smilewink: The F16 speculation was based on quite an old forum post. And despite regular "I want an F16" threads popping up that quickly get merged into US fixed wing wishlist I haven't seen a dev reaction ever since, so I thought I'd share what one of the ED guys had to say about it this week, especially since it was on the german forums that not everyone visits often. have a nice day!
  16. F16 possibly shot down. "only new external 3D model for AI" http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2555187&postcount=53
  17. afaik this feature is planned. I believe for 2.0. The MiG21 changelog for patch 1.5 gave a clue it might be close. "Temporarily removed 'Canopy Icing' checkbox pending visual implementation" http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2487387&postcount=2
  18. they sometimes differ, even between planes. just go to controls, the plane of your choice, and then Views.
  19. it sounds like the OP wants to learn how to fly the A10C in any other way than actually flying the A10C. I guess we should break the spell and state that there is no plane in the game that requires skills transitionable to the A10C other than how a flight stick works. I understand the desire for "immediate results" and all that. Like most of us, you got limited time to spend on hobbies and during that time you want to be entertained and not frustrated. But my advice still stands that you're probably best of working the A10C. - If you don't want to learn how to start the A10C, just use the autostart function ( windows + HOME key ). You can use left ( ALT,CTRL,SHIFT ) + Z to adjust the speed of time so you don't need to wait the full 5 minutes for it to get started. - go to options and then turn on labels. enemies are now having a mark above their heads visible up to 20km out. Now you don't need to rely on your electronics like the TGP, a sharp eye or talk ons by JTACs to find enemies. you can see them easily. - go to your harddrive, then program files -> Eagle dynamics -> DCS world -> mods -> A10C - doc. Here you can find the quickstart guide. Skip the first 21 pages, immediatly start on page 22. You are now facing a guide that explains to you how to work with the A10C as simple as possible. You are introduced to instruments as you need them. All but the most crucial of terminology has been left out. The guide focuses as much on the HUD and the two big colordisplays as possible, and you can work your way through the entire content of the guide flicking only 4 physical switches in the cockpit. you got the BIG advantage that you got the thrustmaster warthog flightstick. If you have two+ screens, open page 87 of the full manual side by side so you don't need to learn the keyboard controls as mentioned in the quickguide but learn what button it is on the stick immediatly. If you don't have 2 screens you can scroll to the bottom, page 39 or so of the quickguide and see the controls for your specific stick as well. - there's 4 things mentioned in the guide, some of them pretty early on, that you can skip when you're first starting. SOI ( sensor of interest ), SPI ( sensor point of interest ), Target designation using the HUD and lastly, Target designation using the TGP ( targetting pod ). These are mostly important for precision guided weapons. You can learn to use the simple weapons first, perhaps the maverick guided missiles then ( it can work with the complexities I just mentioned, but also without ) and then come back to these to drop laser or gps guided ordnance. that's the best tip I can give, since I can read you're passionate about the A10 and thats the plane you ultimatly want to be succesful at. Just make a simple mission where you take off, take out a couple of trucks with the various weapons, and then land. If you're unable to do so, I or the community can make you something simple. Buying other modules or spending time on the FC3 A10 is only gonna postpone that succes.
  20. Yes you can take out helicopters with them on the A10C. you can even take out Su25T's with them. You can also lock them onto other planes but it typically won't catch them.
  21. is there an english cockpit mod for the 6dof cockpit already? I tried googling around but I only found very old mods.
  22. yes thats a heater. the R27ER is a radar missile variant of it. Su 27's can lock you up without the radar, using their electro-optical device. The only warning you will get is a short blip on your RWR when he IFF's you, if he even decides to do that. He then proceeds to shoot a R27ET or any of the other heatseekers like R73's at you. Understanding your enemy is winning half the battle. Here's a great Su-27 PvP guide. You can use it to immerse yourself in the su-27 flow. that electro optical device is shown on page 10 and mentioned throughout the guide. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By_jGRnxUhnUSGNLeGNZS0R1aG8/view
  23. 1 look around for white streaks. Once the rocket moter burns out it becomes practicly impossible to spot missiles, especially outside 06/01 noon flying conditions. against most radar missiles it's a valid tactic to try and put the missile on your 3/9 line. that means keeping the missile exactly on your 3 o clock or 9 o clock. In simple terms, a lot of radars are sensitive to objects closing in on them or moving away from them ( if you want to know more you can look up the doppler effect ). by keeping the missile on this azimuth it does not close in on you any more or less than it does on the surrounding terrain, allowing you to blend in better with the terrain or your countermeasures. you can use ECM to deny the enemy a long range shot. ECM works by making fake radar reflections, denying the enemy most information but your azimuth towards him. ECM is useful but far from perfect. Enemies can send completely passive radar missiles that just 'listen' to your ECM and destroy you without you noticing them coming. at short ranges, enemy planes 'burn' through your ECM and gather enough information for a radar guided missile launch anyway. Lastly ECM takes some time to power up, around 10 seconds or so. ECM is also 'noisy'. enemies are notified of your presence. You may attempt maneuvres to defeat the missile if you think the missile was launched at you close to it's maximum range. by making maneuvres you hope to bleed off it's energy by making it move before it ever reaches you. I don't think there are any specific maneuvres you need to do, just as long as you do not destroy your own energy and keep consideration of other threats. Good moves to make would be those that change your direction but sustain your energy, like the split-S or Immelmann turn. At close to medium ranges you should not hold high hopes to defeat a missile with maneuvres, you may get lucky, sometimes. But missiles can typically pull way more G forces than you can, I think the AIM-9 can pull 40g wich is over 4 times higher than you can while you blackout after a few seconds of doing that. You should not fox at RPI. RPI is the maximum range at a target that will not attempt to maneuvre to avoid the missile. this gives a low Pk, close to zero against a fighter. You should fox at RTR, by foxing at RTR the missile will have enough energy to defeat the target even if it is pulling several G's to avoid it. Missiles naturally inherit your speed and altitude, so a good way to extend your range is by flying higher and faster ( drop those fueltanks! they are called droptanks for a reason :) IRL they are often taken back to base but if an air to air fight would take place they will surely be dropped off. you can go way faster without all that parasitic drag ) telling how to to engage 2 bandits is not really possible. there's no move that works every time. Experience should dictate what is the best course of action. A possible, highly aggressive move you could make is to put your scan cone to NARROW ( 30°)º , then engage TWR ( Track while Scan ) mode. This allows you to lock up both bad guys at the same time, and shoot AIM120's at both of them. the TWR lock is greatly inferior to STT ( single target track ) and the lock on can be lost by as much as making maneuvres. TWR works by checking where the target is, predict where it would be during the next cycle, proceed scanning, and then during the next cycle check if the target is at the predicted spot. While you may sometimes get lucky and splash 4 guys in a headon, the Pk is much lower, and I personally regard it the airforce equivalent of suppresive fire, allowing you and your wingmen to take up offensive positions after pitbull. Against heatseekers, while some of them like the AIM9M are all-aspect, it's best to not show your rear aspect to them. you cannot see them there, they do not give any warning and thats where they have the best lock. When you do notice a launch, throttle down ( atleast out of afterburner ) and drop flares in a pattern ( par example while doing an aileron roll ). Here's some bonus tips: Learn how to interpret BRAA ( bearing range altitude aspect ) reports without giving it thought. In a lot of missions where air superiority is your task you will be working alongside an AWACS craft. they will sometimes make reports to you sounding something like "springfield 1-1. BRAA 320 for 80, 7000 hot." This means there are enemies bearing 320 degrees of your current position, 80 nautical miles out, flying 7000 feet high, CLOSING IN on YOUR position ( hot ). Quickly understanding what the awacs is trying to say to you is good for your situational awareness. Since the radar on AWACS is powerful enough to detect the aspect of the target ( your radar can only do so after aquiring an STT lock ) you could tune the frequency of your radar to increase the chance and quality of detection to the target aspect ( hot = approaching you, cold = moving away from you, flanking = moving astern ) while u can use BRAA aggressively u can also use it to not get shot in the back. u can use the / key to ask the AWACS for bogey dope ( closest contactcs ) or picture ( all known contacts ).
  24. from what plane is that MFD we see in the video though? it looks like su25t but I dont see one in the vid :P
  25. never got an f10 option to give the US hornets the green light. guess I'll have to skip this one :)
