Super Carrier off the coast of California possible?
3WA replied to Hollister56's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
I disagree. With a high end helicopter ( The Apache ) coming out, I think it is time for ED to release it's SDK so we can build small islands and such. We could start building much higher end terrain (not the usual flat ground that looks decent at 30,000 feet). Canyons, hills, unique buildings, villages, ruins, castles, etc. Things you like to see at 10 feet. -
Google Translate Hey guys, are there any books on the shkval and how it is supposed to operate in reality? In reality, I would think you would put the gates around a target, slightly beyond the targets edges, and then the shkval would try to find it. Right now, it looks like you have to put the gates inside the targets edges to get a lock, or right over the "object". It does not appear that electro-optical or any kind of contrast lock is being simulated at all. Will we ever get realistic electro-optical in this sim?

Yeah, the Ka-50 being a single seat gunship is what I like best about it.
-
"Now shoot him in the ass." I'd pay for that!
-
Only one year? That's nothing for ED. I've been waiting for them to fix the Shkval in the Ka-50 for 13 years now.
-
Would you pay for an additional Version Pack for a module?
3WA replied to Mig Fulcrum's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Agree with Dragon. It would depend on how much work went into it. Cause that's what we're really paying for. And OP forgot Ka-50N in his list. -
Yeah, the fragmentation effect is still horrible on the Vhiker as well. Airburst mode is WORTHLESS.
-
Hopefully, fully simulated shkval, FLIR, 3rd wing rails, Iglas, fixed air detection fuse on vhikers, simulated fragmentation burst. Maybe President-S and RWR.

fixed Skhval won't lock clearly visible targets.
3WA replied to IronChancellor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I hate to agree, but I wish there was a cheat setting. Just until you either make it a REAL sensor, or can somehow simulate it working right. It's gotten ridiculous, and just drives you crazy sometimes. Ground targets aren't too bad, but that Shkval will hardly EVER lock an air target, no matter how slow it is moving, even if it is a dark shape against a white sky and coming straight at you. For an air target, we should be able to expand the gates to max around the target, and the Shkval should find it easily, with the gates compressing around the target and locking. -

3WA replied to IronChancellor's topic in Bugs and Problems
The shkval is really messed up. It has a hard time locking anything at dust or dawn. I usually set my flight time to Noon or so, to avoid these problems. Still has a very hard time locking aircraft at anytime though. This heli is a bright clear day attack only. -
Ctrl-Z about 8 times till you get to the good part.

X-52?! Come on, Man! Where's the Virpil?

Air Combat Sim with NineLine - post your questions here

Hmm, so I don't see a date for the second part. Is it out already? EDIT: Ok, I see the date under details. 1st part Came out yesterday. So, I guess a while until the second part. -
Macrium Reflect is the best backup program I've ever found. Was using Acronis, but it always seemed to fail. Been using Macrium for a couple of years now. Works great. You can pull up backups, and they will show up just like they are a separate drive, so you can just drag and drop files from it.

Firing the 2A4A Canon in a fixed Mode -Possible ?
3WA replied to Cantankerous's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
A lot of stuff in the Ka-50 seems either undocumented or buried in the manual. What I do to "fix" the gun is flip the "Automatic Tracking / Gunsight" switch right beneath the 4 Fusing buttons ( Ground Moving Target, Air Target, etc. ) to Gunsight. This keeps your Shkval on, but boresights the cannon ( and also the Shkval). Now, if you lase a target, the FCC will adjust the gun pipper to give you a firing solution from where you lased from. If you move a lot, you'll have to lase the target again for proper solution. "P" button on the keyboard switches back and forth from manual to auto tracking. I like to use this mode if I'm running in on a close target, and don't have time to use the shkval to lock it up. I just put the gun pipper on the target and lase. Pipper adjusts for firing solution, I put the pipper back on the target, and fire. Usually a good hit. You might have to turn off your switch (can't remember the name) that only lets you fire if the FCC thinks you have a solution. In other words, don't stop me from firing. -
Not a great fan of Thrustmaster. There are issues with the stick. Check out Virpil and VKB for high end HOTAS. Virpil seems to be the one ahead of the game so far. I see they are even coming out with helicopter collectives for the Shark and Blackhawk soon.

I've been a gamer for a few decades now. From what I see, people are looking for a new Arma. Not only that, but a bigger and more realistic version of it. I see DCS: World well set up to do just that. It just needs some work. Besides, as a long time Arma player, I think this was the LAST Arma. I don't think there will be another. Arma 2 seemed the most realistic, and I'm pretty sure DCS could reach this level on the ground, and then hopefully, surpass it. I tried to play War Thunder today. They have the right idea, battleground wise, but it's worse than Arma when it comes to realism. Turned it off in 10 minutes, as I couldn't stand it any longer. I don't think you can even enter the aircraft. However, like I said, they have the right idea. A WORLD. Not just sky, but a WORLD down below.

We also need fragmentation to be simulated. It's obviously not right now. I can set vhikers to air target, and hit a heli 3 times without downing it. It hits way to the side or behind the heli, and explodes, but seems to do little to no damage to the heli. It's a complete waste of vhikers, which can take out APCs with one hit. We need iglas.

not a bug Mission 12 locations are 800nm away

Ctrl-Z (speed up time) -
The dials for the Shkval are non-functional. They won't do anything, because contrast lock on the shkval is not being simulated. It's more like a gimmick, where you highlight the target (with the smallest gate size, because the gates aren't simulated either), and the program rolls the dice whether it will lock or not. Hopefully, when ED gets the radar up and simulated, they will work on simulating real Electro-Optical.

fixed Shkval slew control with analog axes
3WA replied to Bourrinopathe's topic in Bugs and Problems
Actually, since 2008, so 13 years. The Shkval needs an OVERHAUL. It never really worked. It's simplistic arma level crap. We need a realistically modeled Shkval that simulates contrast lock and working gates. Dark planes against a pale blue sky should EASILY be locked. But it takes about 20 tries right now, and you have to adjust the gate to the smallest box possible, which doesn't make any sense what-soever. I should be able to adjust the gate to a large box, and it should be a near insta-lock on the aircraft. It's the ground targets that should be harder to lock, due to the all the trees and vegetation badly contrasting with their camo paints and nettings. And since I don't have a real stick, I never knew about the problems with slewing it, so there's one more problem with it. ED, since you are working on the new radar model, please make Electo-Optical your next project! It's been THIRTEEN YEARS! -
Well, that settles it for me. Then it's only a wiring issue, and some other country will undoubtedly wire some of theirs for 4 as a SEAD platform.
-
EXACTLY! Why does it have to be USAF? There are OTHER COUNTRIES in this sim! America exports F16's to other countries. How hard is it to rewire something? It's just wiring. Same as I argue for helicopters. Just because the USA doesn't put stingers or sidewinders on their heli's wingtips, doesn't mean other countries haven't. And they have. My only problem is when there are known issues with certain configurations. Like you can't carry six Mavericks on the pylon on the A-10C. Because the 5th and 6ths Mavericks will scorch the landing tires when they are launched. I still do it though, in my own game, because the plane has distinct disadvantages compared to a fighter, and it's one advantage is that it can carry a heavy missile load. So, I don't want to lose any of that weapon advantage. That, and I figure that they should have fixed such a simple problem by now. Just a simple metal deflector to the side of the wheel nook should do it.

Make sure your DCS copy is on a fast drive ( preferably SSD ). Check. Now, make sure your pagefile (virtual memory ) is also on your FASTEST drive. Critical if you don't have much RAM memory. My pagefile is on my C Drive SSD, which is my fastest drive. Really sounds like a virtual memory issue bottlenecking DCS. If that doesn't work, start lowering your graphics settings. DCS is still pretty CPU bound, and still not multicore capable. I have a 7 year old computer and play on all low. Get 30 - 100 fps.
