Using "throttle for GS and stick for AOA" when landing
RED replied to LJQCN101's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The fun thing here is that DAVID and bbrz are right in their own area. While you don't need to chase AOA once you established it because the aircraft likes to stay on it (like in David's Video - only throttle for glideslope) every "bigger" correction (you don't fly optimum AOA anymore because of pilot error or weather) need to have both throttle and stick input. If you go through the LSO calls and the action required you find they follow this idea. E.g. fast or slow -> wrong AOA: and glideslope correction only while AOA is in the green: So as long as your error of AOA is small enough you keep it there. If it gets bigger you need to make a correction with stick and throttle. Sidenote Even glider fly like this - stick for airspeed (AOA) and brakes or slip ("throttle") for glideslope. -

Nozzle Position is B and red (legend). In the Diagramm its the scale on the left which goes up to 80. So in normal engine operation it goes up to 80% of what it can do physically (100%), even in AB (you see the cycle in the diagram). On the right side the scale is for throttle position (A).

Yeah no downvoting! Only "upvotes"

Agree. So now we have to spam the threads with posts like this?: +1 rep Beside that I got some nice feedback for some posts and in my opinion that overules the neg. reps from some people that can't except to be wrong sometimes. To be able to "upvote" posts would also help people to find the right answer in big threads. Sometimes the problem is solved in post 30 and afterwards are some slightly off topic discussions. Someone that has the same question could see the upvoted answer immediately and does not have to go through the whole thread. I often found the right thread through Google search on the forums in 5 sec and after 5 min of reading posts I found the answer.

This is the weak side of DCS. Very good system and flightmodel simulaton but no sophisticated flight planning tool. I bet they have it on their list. Having to set up your weapons in the kneeboard falls in the same category. In the A10C you can only use the IPs. Maybe the fa18 brings some new features but I wouldn't expect this from a 3rd party. I hope we can use the IPs that we can set in the ME at some point with the Av8. With 2 navigation points it is relatively easy to rendezvous with the tanker.

Check that you have your DMT turned on. The switch is behind the stick.

Is your target maneuvering or releasing flares? If so they loose lock because of that and not because you broke the lock. Especially head on is not the best aspect for an IR seeker. I last fired in 1.58 and the 27T does like to go after flares. If you want to test it in 2.5 just fly behind a non maneuvering nor flaring target, shoot and then drop the lock (EO/Radar).

I found no better place than the chit-chat section. Idea came with Wags talking about CASE I/II in the last video. I mainly think of the F-14 and F/A-18 but the Harrier with a completely different carrier is affected, too. Please do not use this as a Wishlist Thread and throw random aircraft and alike into the discussion. So what would we need in a (paid) modul to fly around and land on/takeoff the carrier (setting the bar high :megalol:) that is not already implemented currently? Add your ideas! Let's see what Heatblur brings us with their Cat, too. I divided my ideas into requirements in Single Player, Multi Player and "nice to have" features for the two. --- requirements in Single Player manuals with good information about take-off configuration (e.g. trim) and fuel requirements Flight Deck Personnel - Yellow Shirts, needed to move you around the deck (hand signals) and shoot you off AI planes that follow arrival and departure procedures in CASE I/II/III weather and do not run you over on the flight deck improved tankers; if we get a wave off in CASE III weather and have little fuel we need a recovery tanker that does not let us down like current tanker crews - improved pattern, more than a simple left hand holding/anker without alterable radius (e.g. recovery tanker should be able to follow the CV) - all the needed information over radio for a rendezvous in CASE III (altitude is not enough! and with the current altimeter bug useless anyway) - headsup for altitude, heading or speed changes AI Carrier ATC Center/Marshall - gives at least wind, visibility and cloud as weather information and BRC (base recovery course) - gives departure and arrival instructions and nav assistance in CASE III (ATC is able to currently but very primitiv) AI Air Boss - gives at least wind, visibility and cloud as weather information and defines the CASE - gives launch and recovery instructions AI LSO or paddles - the appropriate informativ, advisory and imperative calls Carrier equipment - instrument approach (TACAN, ICLS, ACLS) - IFLOLS (Improved Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System) with a 2D aid for VR users or low res. displays users - Long Range Laser and Line Up System - jet blast deflectors - catapult --- "nice to have" in SP Flight Deck Personnal - all the other colours as "decoration" e.g. LSO on their platform - crews chain/unchain, refuel, rearm - "first person" walk to your jet AI Carrier ATC Center - gives full weather information e.g. sea conditions - gives departure and arrival instructions and nav assistance in CASE I/II/III LSO - grading of your landing Carrier equipment -back up MOVLAS (Manually Operated Visual Landing Aid System) -land based IFLOLS for training -movable elevators -barricade --- additional requirements for a good Multi Player experience a LSO/AIR Boss slot - can switch to Deck/LSO views - can direct the deck personnal (Yellow) to give taxi instructions or shoot s.o. off - can easily maneuver the CV and attached vessels (set course/speed, no need for a 3D bridge) - has a ship based air radar view and NOT F10 view where he e.g. sees 5, 10 and 50 nm radius and IPs set in the ME dynamic aircraft slots - if you hop into an aircraft slot you can choose your position on the carrier so that an airborne aircraft does not block the space where it spawned in reduced lag with new people joining in or taking a new slot - current 1 to 30 sec (with an average ~ 10 sec) lags would make a recovery impossible --- "nice to have" in MP LSO/Air Boss slot - allows to switch the CASE for AI planes

Agreed :photo: OP is scraping past 1.2 and 1.14? and his statements of his personal life are very questionable. I love the F5 how it is. It needs no "upgrades" - it is a little very capable aircraft. Here you can see it without any changes "today" in its role it was designed for: OP wants its successor - the F16. Even the F16 did not have all the capabilities mentioned for its first deployment.
-
yep! The example is worth nothing without any ranges and also miss what a Bullseye format or a BRAA format is and how to determine which one you get (the "usually" in the first sentence really doesn't help anyone). Here is how the Navy explains their pilots what is what (Vegas is the bullseye): from https://www.cnatra.navy.mil/pubs-pat-pubs.asp
-
BRAA bearing range angels aspect Bearing is the direction from your plane to the bandits/hostiles one. 308 is somewhere NW of your position. If the bandit flies directly to you -he is hot - you would meet him headon if you turn 308. In the F5 you can use the HSI for your heading. AWACS doesn't give magnetic directions, so the directions can be about 5° off. Maybe it helps if you pause the game when you get an AWACS call and try to figure out with the F10 map and the ruler what AWACS wants to tell you. Simply make a line from your plane to the bandits. A real controller would set you up for an intercept and would talk you through but in DCS you only get simple BRAA calls.

Case II landing - check out the throttle movement
RED replied to Bullant's topic in Military and Aviation
That's little compared to the Super Etendard in the French Navy :smilewink: : -
In DCS this is not the case. DCS simplifies the calls. For Blue side: request picture -> bullseye calls -> relation between the bullseye and the contact - you will hear "bulls/bullseye" after the callsigns in a message request BRAA -> BRAA call from your position -> relation between you and the contact If you get an update without asking, it is always the BRAA format. on the Red/Russian side you will get only the BRAA format even when you ask for picture.

If you see a switch symbol you are holding the cursor over the XY select. It is a ring around the right channel select dial. Try different position until you find the right place where you see the scroll symbol. Do you actually scroll with your mouse? If that doesn't work i would go with bender's advice. For example i bound the parking brake in the harrier to my keyboard because it is hard to aim for the right place with the cursor and easy to hit the cutoff lever by mistake.
-
Mine is working quite fine. Do you mean the buttons under the HSI? There you can select TACAN to effect the HSI and display range, bearing and more. But you always have to "screw" with the TACAN panel first.

Kleiner Ausblick für die S-3 in DCS:
-
Thanks mate. Fortunately I can spend all at once and don't have to do bad compromises. I may still observe prices and wait. I want to be happy with the total price of the system. There are a lot of ways to spend money other than on computer hardware...
-
Thanks a lot! My plan now is to buy a new system in once, mabye not all the top notch components you suggested. Even a "cheap" GPU with only 4 GB VRAM (1050 TI) will be a leap in performance for me. Together with the latest CPU and mainboard as well as 16 GB RAM it should be future proof for further upgrades.
