  1. I actually find the harrier is the easiest once you learn where the hose should be in regard the left mirror, the Hornet I can connect most of the time, the tomcat is just a bugger, jumps all over the damn shop and won’t stay connected for more than a few secs. Strangely enough after learning basket refuelling for a while, I’ve recently gone back to boom refuelling with both the A10 and F16, and I’ve found that is relatively simple, just formate on the tanker, and they do everything else including following your aircraft about. Biggest issue I’ve found with refuelling the A10 is catching up with the damn tanker. Damn that thing is bloody slow.
  2. Personally I love them both, but I do find myself flying the Hornet more. Purely and simply because the Hornet is more forgiving with my rubbish piloting skills, and the fact that currently she is more versatile when it comes to weapons carried. Don’t get me wrong the Tomcat wins hands down in the beauty aspect of the competition and the work that has gone into the Jester AI is mindblowing. But she really is a pilots machine, and the workload is significantly higher I find than the Hornet. That said, if you can master the Tomcat on the battlefield, then any other aircraft in DCS should be a synch to fly.
  3. Just bumping this, had the same issue last night on a MP server. Cold and dark startup on carrier, taxied and hooked up fine, powered up, salute and nothing. As it’s been ongoing for what looks like almost 6 months, any chance of an update please. I’ve only just started learning the F14, hence why I’ve only just come across this issue. But not being able to use a carrier aircraft, on the carrier, is kinda a major issue
  4. Sorry it’s FIXED the cat launch issues. Excellent does this mean, we can finally do cold and dark startups again on the carrier. Was a tad annoying when the salute wouldn’t do anything after hooking up.
  5. IDS hands down please.
  6. This is just an amazing opportunity for the community, I know not everyone wants to play as a Rio, but for those of us who do, getting training and info from a real life top gun instructor. Damn, I never thought that would happen. Hell I know I’m still gonna be rubbish at it, but at least now I know I’m rubbish with no excuse. :D :D
  7. Ok guys, we all know the Supercarrier has been delayed, BUT it looks like our fears about the F14 not working on her, may be a thing of the past. Literally just patched in the last hr, on today’s open beta patch From the F14 section Disabled AI kneeling (for supercarrier) Added holdback bar (for supercarrier) Added salute command (for supercarrier) Supercarrier compatibility added for client/player WIP: F-14B AI compatibility for supercarrier Woohoo, that does sound rather positive. Thanks guys.
  8. Just been using the gulf version of this today, and must say it’s a great mission for learning the ropes on Thankyou, just one thing however I tried A2A refuelling today with the A10, and couldn’t for the life of me catch up to the KC135, is there a way I can slow it down to match the max speed of the A10. I managed to get the A10 up to 220 kts but the tanker was still pulling away, I think he said he was at 270, which I had no chance to match when fully loaded. Hell even after dropping all stores I could only get to 240
  9. Sadly not gonna happen, although I guess you already know that by now. She’s delayed without any new release date, the best is April/May 2020, so realistically plan on final day of May, and anything sooner is a bonus.
  10. +1. Well said sir.
  11. To be fair, if they didn’t care, they would have released it bugs and all just to make a release date, and to hell with us if it didn’t work right. They obviously want the module working well enough so it can be usable, and while I get the fact it does state the main no go was related to MP side of things, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there are other issues relating to the SC in general. Yes it’s disappointing especially as they didn’t let us know till day of release, certainly I was talking enthusiastically about using this for our weekly flying session tonight, and how amazing it would be and then I checked the forums.... ????????????????. The plans have obviously changed for tonight’s flight now bugger. I get that a lot of people of stuck at home in lockdown across the world, and were looking forward to this as an escape and having the time on their hands, they could have really put it through it’s paces, but sadly these things can happen, and even though you can do programming from home I’m sure, we have no idea how the virus has effected EDs work force, and can any of us honestly act surprised that things have been delayed in this current climate. I bet all the programmers at Ed, who have been working their butts off to get this to us, are as disappointed if not more than us about the entire situation. IF they released it with the current issues, then they would end up spending every day fighting off the complaints that it doesn’t work correctly and why did they release it in this condition, it’s a situation that which ever way they went they were screwed. Could it had been communicated better, YES. Were they aware it would likely be delayed 3 days ago, after the weekend test, YES quite possibly. But obviously they were trying not to disappoint us and I guess put all their eggs in one basket Hoping to get a solution in time, which has back fired somewhat.
  12. “Everyone is in lockdown anyway” God I wish, I would love to be able to stay at home and keep my family safe while getting the chance to fly everyday. Instead I’m stuck in work as normal, dealing with everyone who feels lockdown shouldn’t apply to them................:doh:
  13. :O what is going on here, a post thanking ED for hard work posted directed after a eagerly awaited module was delayed until god knows when......... BUT my pitchfork is sharpened, and I want to rant, I’ve paid for this, and I don’t care about the fact there’s a major pandemic currently ongoing, and the fact that just because the carrier doesn’t work right in multiplayer, I want to play it in multiplayer and then if it really doesn’t work, I want to complain that it won’t work, and shout why have they released it knowing it doesn’t work in multiplayer. ;) ;) Although now I’ve stopped prating around, I also want to jump on here and thank the devs for all their hard work. DCS is the sim I’ve always dreamt off, to have so many full fidelity aircraft to choose from and learn, while having many different arenas to fly in is an absolute dream come true, and it is my no 1 choice when it comes to flight simulation. Like many others here, I’ve been using software from you guys since the Lomac days, and every day and month you continue to grow and improve our hobby. Thankyou.
  14. Just so happens, tomorrow is my first shift days off. Talk about fortunate timing.
  15. Thankyou for adding a way to turn this off. I’m already stressed enough with having to go to work and risk mine and my family’s life’s due to idiots who think they are too good to isolate, without having my one flight a week, ruined when I can’t land. ( I only get to fly 2hrs a week on a weds and only if I’m off. Which means today will be the first time in weeks I’ve managed to get on. ) Don’t get me wrong, normally I do have a sense of humour, bu5 it’s fair to say it has currently packed its bags and left the building. All i want to do is have 2 hrs of relaxation flying with my mates and try and forget about work until I have to go back tomorrow.
  16. Ouch, yep most definitely do not want to do that. ????????????????
  17. One more question, I’ve removed the screws from the joystick connector as recommended by Virpil if using the TM grips, but it really doesn’t feel secure and I’m concerned I’m gonna damage the connector when swapping the Warthog and F18 grips about. Really don’t like the way it pulls out of the stick when swapping them over. Do you guys keep the screws in or have you removed them?
  18. Oh I will mate, just spent some time swapping the cams about ( had the cosmosims installed ) and changing the springs from soft to extra strong, which were to strong, so back to soft. Awaiting Virpil to send me some medium springs to see if that feels right. I may have also accidentally just ordered the F14 stick as the it became available with no rudder axies. I have the mount all delivered now, just need to get the holes drilled in it to match the Warthog mount on my wheel stand pro, and everything should then be sorted. I’ve calibrated and installed the software as well. So getting there, slowly but surely. Reckon 2 weeks for the new springs, but hopefully the mount should get drilled in next few days. So I can at least have in installed temporarily before they turn up.
  19. It’s a completely different aircraft than what we are used to. Old steam gauges, no fly by wire, just old fashioned piloting skills and an aircraft trying to kill you. Personally I love it, plus it has the added bonus that learning this aircraft WILL improve your piloting skills that you can then use on any other modules. Heatblur really did raise the bar the the Tomcat. Really determined to learn how to use it correctly. Especially now I may have accidentally ordered the Virpil F14 controller.
  20. Oh don’t worry, I do have VR, I’m just currently flying in 2D, so I can also read and see the guides while I’m learning to fly. Once I’ve learnt sensors, nav and basically how to fight with the Harrier, then I am planning to go back to VR. As to the A2A refuelling practice, I was flying for 5 hrs earlier, and although the first hr was ropey as hell, eventually I have seemed to get it. Well certainly with the C130 and S3 anyway. That 135 is still sketchy as hell, and although I did manage a full refuel once on it, I just can’t get the right position for the life of me. Basically I just flew formation, joined refuelled, dumped fuel, and rinse and repeat for hrs. I am pleased that it did get to the point where I was hitting the 130 basket 1st time on each approach, which I could never do yesterday. The KC135 was taking me 5 mins or so of trying to join, but I did get it a number of times which I’m over the moon about. The plan for tomorrow is more of the same. I will get this cracked by the end of the week. Huge thanks for all the advice, I’m putting it all to great use.
  21. Well guys, I’m now in the club. She arrived today in the mail. Thankyou for all the advice, I’ve ordered the heavy duty springs from Virpil, as she has normal ones currently installed with the cosmosim cams. So will get them swapped over along with the Aviasim cams and see how I get on. Certainly at the mo I’ve attached the Warthog grip and yes that is damn soft, although I’ve not actually tested it flying yet, so you never know I might like it. I’ve also order the joystick mount so I can get that drilled to fit my current warthog mount for the wheel stand pro. I’ve seen others have mounted it similar and that appears to work fine. Fingers crossed everything will be up and running in a week or so.
  22. Fairly certain it is wake turbulence that’s kicking my butt, given that it’s a larger aircraft, just got off pc after another 2 hrs practice in both Harrier and F18, again KC130 and the S3 was no issues, connected to both within a few goes and stayed on till refuel was complete. However, still failed to connect for more than a few seconds with the KC135. Will turn it off tomorrow and see if I can actually connect. At least that way I can rule it out or not. Either that or only choose servers without the 135 as the tanker.:thumbup
  23. Hi all, Apart from the standard practice can anyone here PLEASE let me know the tips and tricks for getting the damn aircraft onto the probe and refuelling in any other situation apart from the KC130 and straight and level? I am currently flying the basket through my refuelling box on the top left of the cockpit, and lining the centre of my compass on the left hand edge of the outer most prop of the Herc. Now this way IF I’m refuelling with a Herc, the weather is perfect and she’s straight and level I can connect and stay connected for the entire refuel. IF however the tanker is any other airframe, or the tanker turns, then I can’t for the life of me connect to the damn probe. Please what is the secret, I’m practising every damn day, and it’s driving me mad, sadly due to her limited fuel capacity without this skill, it’s sad to say the Harrier can’t really complete its mission. God forbid trying to refuel in any type of weather. I’ve tried looking on YouTube and it seems the majority of vids on there are using the 130 straight and level. I really want to learn this skill, before I move onto learning the nav pages, weapons etc, as without fuel, everything else becomes redundant. By the way I’m currently using a TM Warthog, but my Virpil WarBRD base arrived this morning, so I’m planning to swap over to that in a few days
  24. Intresting never heard that mentioned before. Thankyou will give it a try. For some reason I can refuel on the KC130 ok, but the KC135 is the spawn of the devil. For some reason I cannot connect and stay connected for the life of me with that tanker. Don’t suppose you know the tricks for the harrier as well do you. :helpsmilie::helpsmilie:
  25. Hi all, I’m just wondering has anyone figured how to turn off the writing on the left side of the screen, thar states when people takeoff, land , get shot down and hit targets at all. I find it very distracting and really detracts from the whole DCS experience. Would love just a clean screen purely showing my cockpit only. I’m really not interested in what others are doing on the server.
