Hi guys, I’m building my brother a newish build after he fried his pc last month. I have a max budget of £1500 so I’ve thought about going down the AMD route to keep costs down. Now I will freely admit to being a Intel guy, and I’ve not built an AMD system since 97. So I really haven’t been keeping up with what is worth getting or not. Been reading up and taking advice from my best mate who is a AMD guy, and have come up with the following specs. AMD Ryzen 7 5800x ASUS tuf gaming X570 plus 32gb Corsair vengeance 3600mhz Samsung 980 pro 500gb M2 drive Artic Liquid Freezer II Cpu cooler Gigabyte gaming OC 3070 850W Cooler Master MWE, 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular PSU To keep costs down I’m planning to reuse his Coolermaster Stormtrooper case, case fans, Blu-ray drive and 2 x 2tb hard drives. Think they were Barracudas, but of course that depends on if they still work or not. He mainly plays DCS at either 1080p or in VR, (oculus quest ) with everything pretty much set to low with his old build. I would like to obviously significantly increase the FPS he gets and allow him to push the sliders right, so he can get the most out of DCS. Will this do it, or should I be looking at other components or a different route. I have already found and purchased the 3070, due to them being like rocking horse ****

Cheers mate, but watching some of your posts and certainly your kneeboard seems to work similar to what I’m after. Just asking for maps or airfield plates etc as well as the normal commands for the Viacom interactive kneeboard would be perfect. I saw Baileys voice attack profile in the downloads about an hr ago, so was planning on downloading that and then hopefully being able to add the kneeboard commmands to the Viacom profile, should do the trick. at mo the only kneeboard extra I have is the Viacom one which I grabbed yesterday, so all very very new to me. Despite using DCS for years, I’ve never really looked further than the default features. But as I’m planning on utilising VR pretty much permanently now in sim, after getting a quest 2, I’m looking at options to help me interact with the kneeboard, 9 line data etc. All stuff that I did via the keyboard or physical pen and paper before, but which wouldn’t be practical wearing a VR headset. The Viacom interactive kneeboard solves the majority of the issues I’m concerned about, now it’s just getting a similar functionality with the default kneeboard. Move pages left and right, mark map etc.

Hi guys, just wondering does this provide voice interaction with the standard DCS knee board or just with the Viacom pages that I’ve seen in the screenshots? While I see people are saying they are still using their own custom knee boards with it, I’m confused on how to make that actually happen. What happens about campaign mission briefings, maps, F14 kneeboard pages etc? sorry for the questions but I’m just rather confused right now. This appears to give me the main solution to copying 9 lines in VR which I’m after, but obviously still need access to the standard DCs kneeboard as well, pref by using my voice in a similar fashion changing the tabs on the Viacom pages.

Hi guys, I’m considering moving over to VR full time in DCS now the Quest 2 resolution is rather impressive, and I might actually be able to see targets. Up till now, I’ve only really used VR while flying for transit and in Helos, rather than fighting, so the one thing I’m wondering how to do is using target grid refs, Kneeboards and radio frequencies in VR. at mo, I use a physical knee pad, to write anything info down as I receive it, which obviously isn’t practical when I’m wearing a VR headset. What are the best solutions you guys have found? Some way to copy and past, extra window open in sim, hell maybe even some sort of voice control option.

I know it’s horrible isn’t it. Been waiting forever for a 3080, but after multiple attempts over last few months to get one and watching the prices continuing to rise, I bit the bullet and grabbed a 3090 which I could at least pre order and lock in the price. still sucks that I’ve paid £1900 for something that was only £1500 a few short months ago, but at least I’ve got a chance at upgrading from my 1080ti now. I figure if the prices come down I can always cancel the pre order if needed. never known pc components to be this hard to get hold off in all my years of pc gaming.
-
Well, with no hope of getting a 3080 anytime soon, and the GPU prices rising and rising, I’ve finally bitten the bucket and ordered a 3090 myself. Far far more than I’ve ever spent on a GPU before in my life, but I find if I don’t think about it, it doesn’t upset me as much. I have the same chipset and memory as you, so must admit it’s very encouraging to hear you are having good results with it. Upgrading from a 1080ti so I just hope I can finally fly without stutters.

Ok then, WHICH aircraft should I Concentrate on?
Cowboy10uk replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS 2.9
Thanks for all the reply’s everyone. It seems like the Hornet is the fav by most. So I’m gonna head for that first. At least until the harrier gets the bugs ironed out, I mean she’s gonna be perfect for the Falklands map right. However with the Mossie, Hind, Apache and the Kiowa on the way as well the choice is about to get even harder. -
Hi all, I own all the current modules in DCS, and I’ve been flying here since the days of Lock On. However it’s fair to say I’m a bloody useless pilot. Up to now I tend to jump from module to module, learning a bit of it, moving to another airframe, forgetting everything I’ve learnt, I starting again. Ive decided I want to fully learn a single module and become fairly competent in it. Now I do tend to prefer ground pounding, and the A10 is the only module I really feel competent in. So at mo I’m leaning towards either the F18, or Harrier. Just thought I would see what you guys think, or would you suggest something completely different that I’ve not thought about. over to you.

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
Cowboy10uk replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Have to admit that while the Mossie was always a day 1 purchase for me, as it’s my favourite WW2 aircraft after the Short Underland which sadly we are very unlikely to ever get, there is no way I could say no. However the confirmation that it’s Multicrew is a huge bonus, the thought of flying low level working as a team to get the tasking done in such an iconic aircraft will be a dream come true, especially in VR. I can honestly see it becoming my no 1 choice of WW2 aircraft to fly, despite owning them all. im sure you won’t regret joining the rest of us on our Mossie journeys. -
Hi guys and gals, quick question as I’ve been stuck at work and not been able to even boot up pc let alone fly since this has come out, but has anyone tested SRS with Huey Multicrew yet? we normally use SRS for communication and to play radio stations that we can tune in on the FM radio, I’m just wondering IF I tune the FM radio in the Huey to the music stations, would everyone hear it through their headsets as we are all in the same aircraft, or would they need to do it individually using the SRS UI as they wouldn’t have their own aircraft radios to tune?

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion

Yep I bought a bravo throttle quadrant instead. As to using the hotas, sadly no I’ve no idea, unless you use combined controls, one axis for both left and right. -
Who will win the race between the Mi-24 and the OH-58?
Cowboy10uk replied to Razorback's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Have to admit to a Rotorhead like myself, it doesn’t matter which turns up first. I’m buying them all anyway, I’ll be a fool to even deny that. But if I had to give an opinion, then I would guess we will likely see the Hind first, purely and simply by the fact it’s an in-house module, so it will have been able to take advantage of the Multicrew code while it was being developed for the Huey, I would guess 3rd party’s would only get access to the code once they know it works fine and has been shown to us all. Listening to Cosmo I get the impression the Kiowa is coming along, but there’s still some way to get it right for release. So maybe June/July if we are lucky. ( that’s a complete guess on my part by the way and at no point has those times ever been suggested anywhere ) The Apache, honestly I’m not expecting that till 2022 at the earliest. Anything sooner than that will be a huge bonus. -
Go into mission editor, on the Huey you want to use, click far right button on bottom that gives you the extras like exhaust suppressor, there you will see a tab for. Pilot in command, just select anyone rather than right or left seat. that will allow you to just hand over control whenever you want. you both need to obviously program in a take over control button, mines Side mouse button, and then as soon as anyone presses that button they are flying the aircraft. the asking and confirming who has control is just RP and good practice so people don’t get confused

How can I turn off Gunners seat weapon following VR head movement,
Cowboy10uk replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Wow now that is fast work. Thankyou for listening to us. -
So my first impressions after my first flight today in Multicrew and in VR of course. what can I say, after all these years of waiting but WOW, working together as a crew is truly a different experience, seeing your mate flick switches or have them monitoring the airspeed and altimeter while you’re landing in a confined space, while also at the same time having a mate in the back, counting you down and confirming the tail is clear or needs to come right or left is just a dream come true. Plus it’s the smaller things, like once you set up the pilot in command to all crew, so all they have to do is click a button to fly and the pilot doesn’t get a menu popping up. Really is immersive. Flying along copilot asks you if he can fly, state you have command, he answers I have command and bang he’s flying, no menus, no pop ups just a smooth transition really makes it feel like you’re in the same aircraft. Likewise my daughter came to say goodnight while I was flying, or another time my frame rate plummeted because Oculus did a update halfway through the flight, I just called you have command, and my copilot took over. Now it wasn’t all smooth sailing, BUT I’m hoping the Multicrew is important enough to Ed for them to be following any threads like this, that they will pick up on these issues and hopefully fix them. To be fair there was only a FEW glaring issues that I found or didn’t like with the Multicrew and it may be a VR issue alone in Multicrew, and that is the way the head movement isn’t independent of the door gunners weapons. Which means the gun seems to be fixed to your nose and you can only control it by moving your head. It was horrible and induced VR sickness in both myself and my mate, to the degree where he had to stop flying for a bit. The head position was better when we swapped out the M60 for the mini gun, but just having a way to select mouse control for the gun only would solve that issue. Likewise looking left and right to aim the gun lead to your head in VR pass through the seating on the right or come outside the aircraft all together, as it moves around on the axis of the rear grip of the gun rather than the realistic position of the crew member. While you do have to be able to lean outside the aircraft while in the back, to be able to watch the skids or tail in confined landing situations or the sling load, it should really be completely independent of the weapon. NOW if Ed fixed that, Multicrew would be downright perfect, it’s almost there, it is amazing, and adds so so much to helo ops, but just needs a little tweaking still.
-
Just come here to post these very requests. I hope they pick up on them. VR in Multicrew is amazing but the gunner controls leave a lot to be desired. Let us look around independently from the gun in VR, so we can assist our pilots with sling loads, confined landings etc.

True it was, BUT look at the state of the viper on release. It was rushed out far to early. personally I say let’s give them the time, no moaning, no pestering, no calls for release now when they show it off in vids. Let’s just sit back and wait, I have to agree I do expect 2 years ish myself. but so long as it’s done right, I don’t care.

Day one purchase. NOW we have multi crew working in helos, that’s one big step already taken. Apache And Kiowa in DCS, pink teams are a go. I AM THE GREATEST

multicrew status - released to open beta 17th December 2020
Cowboy10uk replied to AT_Youmu's topic in DCS: UH-1H
So has anyone tried it yet, I’m still downloading the patch. does it work? is it any good? is it all we have dreamed it would be? im sure the answers are all positive, but come on guys, this wait is killing me. -
Not by choice, it’s called being married with a small child. Sadly the restrictions have been placed on me by the higher power. ( my wife )
-
Hi there, appreciate you don’t give out times for the patch so to speak as it’s completely fluid, however IF I had only an hr to fly, at 8pm GMT, is it worth me sliding the flight till tomorrow at least. got to plan my flights carefully so not to waste the hr I get per week.

OMG, I know we were promised Multicrew, and have been waiting for a long time, BUT to get a FULL crew experience is more than I could ever dream off. I was convinced we would only get the front seats. a massive Thankyou guys and girls. This is gonna be a dream come true. can’t wait to operate as a full crew
