In DCS I never do full throttle for takeoff anyways. [emoji14] Runway lengths don't call for it. Only place I'd throw the engine balls to the wall would be on the short runways on Normandy.
-
There is a report on the incident, but it's in French, and needs to be translated. It said that it was his first “flight” in that aircraft

Nope, the plugin only works with the 2017 version! Also make your correction quickly, as 2017 is the earliest available version. I'm not sure when versions are switched (as we have 2020 and its still 2019), so I'd grab 2017 ASAP, before this decade rolls, to be safe

I've seen this one before. In the video, it looks like there was brake pressure applied, rather than power alone. Also the pilot does not have the stick back until the tail had undesirably raised. This also wasn't a firewalled throttle, the reports say he pushed his throttle to +6lbs. It was also the pilot's first time in the Spitfire.
-
Half throttle was to be a drastic attempt try to initiate it in DCS, IF it's possible in DCS, which I don't think it is.
-
My bad, I should have given context. The paragraph above the one pictured says the usual “throttle must be opened 1 inch...”. With this paragraph beneath it, the throttle position is with regards to start-up, not once started. It suggests that if the throttle is set (anywhere, bit vague) beyond 1" for startup, the prop may kick back.

Some people call for only 8, which is also plenty for takeoff. Also depends on how much runway is available. I'd push 12 on most of Normandy's fields, but I haven't flown Normandy regularly (hopefully will change with a new mission on BS). P-51 (late) manual did call for full throttle on takeoff, but this was a wartime manual. Additionally I've found this, which I don't recall seeing in DCS: But then again I don't go half-throttle on start-up

Because pilots aren't particularly risk taking with their very vintage multi-million dollar aircraft and engines

I'd be more happy if M3 stuck with props, as having ED be nearly the sole contributor wouldn't get much traction. Seeing a Wildcat or Beartcat would be a nice addition, or even some Zeros or Kis HB I thought was working on an A-7, or at least considered it

Spitfire goes to +8lbs (my preference), I've heard others say 12lbs. Depends on who you ask

That's straight odd, and seems bug report worthy. I regularly run 55" 3000RPM right off the ground till 16,000ft, climbing at ~200mph. My engine has never not once busted on me during that phase of flight with those settings. I do keep my coolant door fully open however, during the climb, until I level off and stick it in auto.
-
If it happened in real life, we should get it in a simulator such as this, Hiro. It doesn't matter if one feels like the 51 has enough ways to kill the engine. Actually what are the reasons (that you know of) for the 1650-7 busting for you or your squad? I've got a mind to do some testing on the 51 when I get the chance

Underwater Terrain Has Holes Visible At all Altitudes
Magic Zach replied to Magic Zach's topic in Bugs and Problems
I don't think so. I've provided screenshots that show the issue, and this does not look like a texture problem of the water. As you should see, the model of the map underwater is clearly seen through an excess of 100ft of depth. That in itself is a whole other problem rather separate of the holes in the underwater terrain model. This rather deserves a different thread for itself -
Underwater Terrain Has Holes Visible At all Altitudes

I think the solution found on Caucasus would have a cleaner overall result. Reason being the harbors. The terrain drop is very visible from above water, which wouldn't be possible to see by eye down 100ft of sea water. -
Make sure you've deleted your metashaders2 and fxo folders. If that doesn't work, repair your install. I'm running on a lower spec system with the Rift S, and get moderate frames, occasionally dropping below the 40 cap for a second or two.

It's a damn shame honestly. Now it's all words words words and diagrams. Could at least squeeze in some goofy cartoons with deliberately memorable quips. Might make me learn the F/A-18 faster lol I think from now on when I fly the P-51 I'm going to use WEP, to gather data on the fly. [emoji6]

Underwater Terrain Has Holes Visible At all Altitudes
Magic Zach posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
The blend between terrain underwater, including rivers, looks very odd. There are holes underwater that are very visible, at all altitudes. This is just my observation, but it appears that the water in Normandy is very clear! Meanwhile the water on the Caucasus cannot be seen into. While it may not look as nice on the surface, I believe that making the color of the water more solid would do very well at hiding these holes in the underwater terrain (or the terrain entirely). I've included screenshots to better show what I mean... Merry Xmas! -
When landing on the grass sections of airfields, it is extremely and uncannily smooth. What I mean is, it FEELS smooth when landing, taxiing and taking off. The cockpit doesn't shake, the wingtips don't bounce, there is no rocking of the aircraft as they should. It's flatter than a frozen lake. This applies to ALL grass on ALL airfields. I think the airfields with grates should have at least a bit of shudder, and that the dirt (for bare dirt fields) and grass of them be given bumps and uneven surface. It doesn't have to be extreme like when you land in a random location on the Caucasus, but at least some uneven bouncing (and perhaps some more friction on the grass) would be very much appreciated. This has been something that has bothered me a lot actually, since the beginning. But now that Normandy has gotten an update, I hope UGRA sees this and considers it. It's be a great step to immersing oneself into the environment.

For those on the sideline about buying Normandy...
Magic Zach replied to Mr_sukebe's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
I second this. After the update, Normandy runs smooth as butter, even in VR. It also visually looks much improved, though albeit it still has some rough spots, particularly the coastline -
Imo it's not perfect but it's close enough for me. It doesn't sound so bubbly from behind during a flyby in DCS

[REPORTED] Very low detail areas in Normandy
Magic Zach replied to Reflected's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Is this a bug or feature request? If so take it to their forum section -
P-47, some other stuff, and the Mosquito I imagine M3's Corsair, but unsure. Damage model is set to be released with version 2.5.6, shooting for Q1

Since my last post I've gotten VR (last week actually). The Spitfire and 51 are even more enjoyable. Still getting used to landing though. Judging the distance is difficult. Just when I thought I had another 5 whole feet to go, I bounce off the ground lol These aircraft stand really tall in wheel landings [emoji12]

New to DCS WWII - question on mission and campaigns
Magic Zach replied to jack72's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I hear the Epsom campaign is good too. Spitfire will make a pilot out of you
