I plan on going whole hog with this sim of all sims. Are any of you cockpit geniuses working on a realistic Longbow Cockpit? If so, I may be interested in paying you to build me one. Is anyone making or know how to make any working MFDs, gauges, controls, or any other such hardware for this sim? I imagine a lot of people will just use VR and forego any such hardware. But I want to see what gives the most immersive experience before deciding which route to go. Also, any ideas about motion simulators which would be good for this sim?

There ware many a day off I played that sim 8 hours straight.

Sounds good! Your emphasis on realism is what I like to see. Also I watched a youtuber do the first three missions of your campaign. I was impressed. Time to start learning the Jug!

I really want to get into the p47, but my main love is to dogfight and the P47 seems to be a pig in air combat on its own. I currently fly the p51 100 percent of the time. I love your campaigns. They are the best DCS has in my opinion. However, isn't it true the large majority of air combat in DCS, in both single-player and multiplayer, occurs at low altitudes where the plane has no advantages? Plus you can only dive so much at low altitude. One thing you seem to have done in your p47 campaign which I think is sorely lacking in most DCS WW2 missions and campaigns, is making the player the wingman rather than the leader. That is SO refreshing! As you said, with that, you can stick to a leader and maybe others, and together do some real damage. I did do a p47 single escort mission in which the player had a wingman or was a wingman (forgot which) and the two worked together and did some great damage against enemy fighters. One of my biggest gripes with DCS WW2 missions and campaigns is that the player seems to always be the leader and his/her wingman always takes off somewhere despite numerous pleas for them to cover the player's behind! So before I invest in alot of time and energy to learn all the intricacies of Jug so I can eventually tackle your campaign properly, how often is the player a wingman instead of a leader in your campaign? Thanks!

For those of you who played (and like me loved) the old Jane's Longbow sim series from the 90s, you may remember the very thick (almost one inch) spiral-bound manuals which came with Jane's Longbow 2 and Jane's Longbow Gold sims which have a plethora of information on the actual Apache Longbow, its history, specifications, systems and how it operates. The more voluminous Longbow Gold manual also includes a lot of information on other weapons systems including military aircraft (fixed and rotary wing), anti-aircraft systems, and armored vehicles. If you can find a copy of one of these old classic sims (especially the Longbow Gold), it's probably worth the money just to buy one for the manual. I'm SO glad I still have the manuals from both even though I haven't played those sims in several years.

I'm thinking about getting this campaign. How many missions are air to ground? Thanks!

Great!!! Looking forward to this!

I'm in the process of setting my Voice Attack for my communications with my wingmen and flight. Is there a way I can eliminate the game saying my commands? For example, when I say, "wingman return to base" through voice command, I do not want the game voice to repeat that command like it does when I issue that command through the keyboard bindings. I do want the wingman to answer though. Thanks!

I certainly feel the same exactly! Longbow 2 was da bomb! I think after we get this, I wont need anymore DCS aircraft (I currently have most of them). I will be in helicopter heaven for all eternity.

My money has been ready for this aircraft for years. Maybe ED can do a pre-pre-order?

Mission 3 – Issues
MADLOU1 replied to SnapRoll's topic in P-51D: The Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney Campaign
I also had problems with keeping up with the other planes in these missions and a number of others. I made sure the mixture setting was correct and the plane was trimmed but still had problems. I had to stop playing this great campaign as a result. -
Recommended Motion Simulator?
MADLOU1 replied to MADLOU1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That is exactly what I am looking for! -
With DCS coming out with my dream helicopter (Apache, what else?), I want to go whole hog, with VR, quality helicopter controls and motion simulation. I know less than nothing about motion simulators. Can anyone recommend one or more which are relatively compact, good quality and reasonably priced? Once the Apache comes out, and have all the above stuff, I can foresee my wife having to turn off the house electricity to stop me from flying the thing. LOL
-
Same here. But I surrendered too easily. Plus with the Apache (and maybe even the Hind) I'm seriously thinking about getting some type of motion simulator in addition to all the other goodies already mentioned. Can anyone recommend a good but reasonably priced motion simulator that might work well on helicopters? I'm probably gonna have to end my retirement and go back to work to pay for all the stuff DCS is making me buy!

Go to the DCS website and click on the tab "Free to Play" and follow the instructions.

I know this is somewhat off-topic but since we are discussing iconic ww2 planes we would like DCS to model, HOW ABOUT THE GREAT B17!!! The very thought of the multicrew potential almost brings tears to my eyes Just watched a video about the Battle of Midway and their role in attacking the Japanese carriers.

I, for one, want the P-38 very badly. It would be a VERY welcome addition for the Pacific theatre. In fact, I purchased a particular other sim just to fly its P-38 and nothing else it has to offer. It couldn't be more complex than the Mosquito that DCS is currently working on IMHO.

You say you dont understand the anticipation for a pre-order. That anticipation was created by ED itself thereby causing (possibly false) high hopes. The problem with ED is that it apparently does not understand how to competently manage customer expectations or just does not care. As a result, ED sometimes gets a lot of customers and potential customers hopes up that a particular module will be available for pre-order and when a delay occurs, ED does not mention explain there will be a delay.. It would be better if they just didnt say anything about such pre-orders until they are ready to take them. Properly managing customer expectations is something all businesses should know how to do. The OP was not wrong in his interpretation of the newsletter. Are we required to read ED's pronouncements with the same meticulous care as an attorney who is reviewing a client's contract? The newsletter says it was "expected to be in the beginning of May." It was reasonable for the OP to assume ED knew what it was talking about and if there was a delay, it would say so. What would a reasonable person do if they told a family member that they expected to give that family member a highly coveted gift by a certain date and then failed to do so? That reasonable person would tell the family member by that date that there was going to be a delay and explain why. Otherwise, the family member would have had his or her hopes falsely elevated thereby causing frustration. That's just human nature.

correct as-is P51- insufficient shot damage
MADLOU1 replied to INTRUSO_BR's topic in Bugs and Problems
Exactly! DCS makes you want to always fly with unlimited ammo because it takes so much ammo to take down a plane that is only a few yards in front of you. I've heard many ww2 and Korean pilots say how it only took a 2-3 second burst to bring down an enemy plane. At least that plane eventually went down. I've shot numerous planes with a lot more ammo at the same or closer ranger and the things keep going like they were barely touched. -
correct as-is P51- insufficient shot damage
MADLOU1 replied to INTRUSO_BR's topic in Bugs and Problems
I always felt (and still feel) the mustang's guns are weak in DCS. I've shot almost a whole load into a enemy plane at close range at times and the darn thing still flies. I've listened to countless p51 pilot interviews and none of them reported this. Also, the gun camera footage I've seen seems to indicate the guns are too weak. -
I second this. Was forced to buy that "other flight sim" just to fly some semblance of a P-38. But it just ain't the same!

Cool beans on the updates!

I've never seen in my life such detail in a flight simulator map
MADLOU1 replied to Simon1279's topic in DCS: The Channel
Just got this map. All I can say is "Holy Smokes!" The detail is stunning. The only problem is now Im spoiled. All the other maps (in particular, Normandy which I fly over mostly because I am a warbird nut) seem dull now. Any way they can update the other maps to look as good as this one? -
I also am enjoying the campaign immensely. I really hope the developer makes a campaign for the upcoming Hind!

Does the Depth of Field settings button have anything to do with any of this?
