I have two other flightsims in addition to DCS . Windows is losing focus in all of them . The only things common to all are Windows (new installation) and Oculus (forced update) .
-
I read that the cable is smaller and less stiff , being single instead of double barrel design , and that the external plug has been done away with as well . It now plugs directly into the headset .

The two have a similar display quality , with the Index's extra pixels largely going to a larger FOV . The Index offers some clear advantages in Fov , audio , room-scale tracking , controllers and build quality (not that the Rift S is bad , but it certainly doesn't offer the same premium feel) . However Judging by posts in these forums , users seem to have performance issues , as it seems to occupy an unhappy place in terms of pixel counts compared to the S , yet requires more supersampling than the Reverb for clarity . Those points , your own priorities , cost and , as dburne said , your system's capabilities (particularly the GPU) should inform your choice . Personally , i'm excited about the Reverb G2 , which will be a better DCS headset than either :)

I don't think those qualify as "budget joysticks" :)

money no object best vr performance?

You appear to be putting words in my mouth :) Two of the three last sentences are not what i said . Don't do that ! Knowledge can be gained through the application of intelligence . You can quote me on that ! You can find him here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=268956 Click on his name to send a pm . -
May i suggest a pm to dburne ? He has experience with the Quest and DCS .

Contingent upon favorable reviews (particularly by forum members) , this will be my next headset , (and first WMR) although it will have to wait for my next-gen gpu . It seems as though HP has made a massive effort to address the Reverb's shortcomings .

Absolutely wrong ! 6.4 MB

Install the program . Click "advanced" and point the program to your DCS and saved games\DCS folders . Select the build , you will see a blue bar on either side when selected . You will also see reversion and version options in the advanced menu . It is a very powerful , easy to use and useful utility .

You know you won't :)

Because you posed a question exhibiting a bias , dug your hole even deeper with the iq comment , and because the answers are available all over the vr forum . How many posts have you seen with greater than 9900k/2080ti ? Would you accept a single answer from one who might have a better system as determinative ? Do you understand the nature of subjectivity ? Were i seriously seeking an answer to such a question , i would pm Aurelious . He has substantial DCS and VR experience , and access to a university VR lab , with the best available equipment . But i'm not smart enough to do that so... -

Rather you appear to overestimate your own . -
It's stuff like that makes me think you gotta be batsh*t crazy to be a naval aviator . No thanks . A cold cat in VR would give me a heart attack , especially if i got a glimpse of a 100,000-ton carrier bearing down on me :)

Has anyone tried the 10900k yet?

I'm guessing it was Jayz two cents ? -
I use this very useful utility https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053 Never tried the way you're speaking of...

F-18 landing gear warning keep ringing at 6000ft
Svsmokey replied to enceladus's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Perhaps the update is a further refinement in the interest of fidelity . Perhaps you never noticed it before . I have . To your second point , low speed bfm is to be avoided , as it leaves you a sitting duck for a hostile wingman , for example . The two hornet pilots you mentioned were flying in a simulator , with nothing to lose , and were absolutely sure that another hostile would not engage . -
No , it wasn't . Firstly , i looked at his previous posts , and saw little of pot-stirring . Secondly , new members are valuable to all of us if DCS is to continue to grow , and in any case , people should be treated with respect absent a good reason to do otherwise . Thirdly , new members may not know how to use the search function , many people have difficulty formulating valid search strings , and some , like me , visit the forums using a tablet , wherein the search function is not available . Perhaps you should choose your own words more carefully...

Did you unplug it ? Wipes the contacts , cleaning any potential fod . Otherwise , the only things left are windows/ dcs reinstalls (sorry !) Or wait for the next Oculus update (hopefully soon as it broke another sim) Or borrowing your bud's Rift for a couple days to prove the hardware .
-
Seems likely pcvr development from Oculus (other than Quest/link) is years away , if at all . It will be interesting to see what the G2 Reveb is about . Otherwise , i expect to soldier on with the RiftS for quite a while .

Running open beta , and the msaa mask enabled with default terrain shadows shows this in my system . I chose to run flat only to eliminate the problem . I don't run pancake , so if you do , i cannot address this problem , but i doubt it is your gpu .

Thanks for the post , reminding us all of why we fly...

You can change from stable to open beta or back again very easily with this great utility . https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053 You can also download both versions if you have the storage room , and fly all your aircraft and maps in either . (Except the ones only available in open beta) Either of these options allow you to have the latest and greatest , and to fly stable if you have a particularly bad open beta release .

Well put , and certainly a valid observation . Our reports , both to ED and to other forum members , suffer much from this lack .
