Still wrong , options 1 and 4 will work . But that's ok , i have no skin in how you wish to run your pc . Enjoy !

WMR = Windows Mixed Reality . I subscribe to the "If it ain't broke , don't fix it" philosophy . I'm still running Nvidea 432 for example . It also has the benefit of easing troubleshooting when there is a problem . (Is it the Windows update , the Oculus update , the DCS update or the Nvidea update that broke my system ?) [Edit] this page shows several alternatives for disabling Steam updates . https://appuals.com/how-to-disable-steam-auto-updates/

I certainly have control over WMR , as i have Windows updates off (except security) , and i have read that it is possible to control Steam VR updates as well...
-
I would consider G2 . Not crazy about WMR or Steam VR , but at least I would have control over updates , something Oculus refuses to allow . Also , further development of Oculus pc headsets seems questionable at this point . Having said that , i acknowledge that the Quest has prolly done more to grow VR than any headset , which is good for all of us . I hope HP uses better cameras in the G2 , i often come out of VR to an entirely dark room , and the S tracking is still flawless in DCS .

Well , it takes longer to type 2-1/2 than 3 :)

money no object best vr performance?
Svsmokey replied to eatthis's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
(Too) Long-time flightsimmer . I also find these times very exciting indeed . Having an amazing experience now , and looking forward to 30xx or RDNA2 to put the icing on the cake . And Vulkan is coming... Fully agree , now is the time... -
Render distance of deck landing lights and Ball in VR
Svsmokey replied to BMGZ06's topic in Bugs and Problems
Render distance ? Is that a new setting i've overlooked ? Where is it ? -
I've been having this as well , coincident with a new build . I do not believe it is a DCS problem as i've experienced it in other flightsims as well . After much tweaking and troubleshooting , i have concluded (by exclusion) that it is a Windows problem . Never had it on the old system , and priority or alt-enter doesn't seem to help . Some have said that VR users can move the taskbar to the side instead of the bottom to cure the problem . I have yet to try this .

Tweaking VR settings for smooth DCS Supercarrier experience.
Svsmokey replied to Mnemonic's topic in Virtual Reality
Yeah , will be looking at more msaa , pd and Vulkan when i select my next gpu . Likely whoever has most vram wins.... -
Tweaking VR settings for smooth DCS Supercarrier experience.
Svsmokey replied to Mnemonic's topic in Virtual Reality
How does texture quality impact performance with >1 pd ? Do lower textures free up gpu resources to allow higher pd's ? [Edit] found the answer in the OP . I'm running low textures (can't really tell the diff in vr) and am getting great performance in 2.56 -
HE in .50 cal ?

My performance with NVidia GeForce 1070
Svsmokey replied to TOViper's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Interesting...my settings are for SP only , VR in a Rift S , running 2.56 ASW auto DCS priority very high Nvidea 432.xx Nvidea Power = max perf Textures=max perf All others default Windows 18363.836 DCS Bloom off MSAA mask 42 PD 1.0 Lens effects off MSAA x 2 Anistropic 16 Chimney 1 Traffic low Clutter maxed Cockpit gi off Terrain shadows currently flat Shadows low Heat blur off Rain droplets on Preload maxed All textures low Tree visibility 70 Visibility high Water medium ( high looks like hell with shoreline reflections) Very smooth in the Hornet low over Batumi with MM , Tpod and Mav flir screens on . (and some very impressive explosions) -

Nicely done ! -
I'm one of the latter , and boy has it paid off !

No one can tell you what you will be happy with . No one can tell you what settings because we all have different priorities . So what you are mostly going to get are self-validating replies . Your rig will run any headset about as well as it can run in DCS . Do your research , take your best shot , and if you don't like it , return it or sell it , and try another .

It strikes me that the purpose of using the Litening for AA is to track and identify a potential target stealthily . Why would you then use radar and give your position/intent ?
-
Both of your questions are ultimately subjective . I am running a 1070 , and haven't flown on a monitor since getting a CV1 (now running a Rift s) . I am having a very smooth experience with all the graphics settings important to me . I do wish , however , that i could run a higher pd in addition to my current msaa . Most who try VR never go back , and most are hooked on an endless upgrade cycle chasing better performance/ graphics . I'd say get the headset , and if you decide it is not for you , you can recover most of your money re-selling it .

Co-incident with the last Open Beta , I have been commissioning a new build . So I can't really address relative performance . What i can say is that i'm having a very smooth experience low over Batumi while using Mav-F's and a Tpod with the Hornet . Better , in fact , than with a slick Hornet low in the same area with the old system (6500 and 16gb 2133 ram) and 2.55 . Much smoother taxiing in a highly-populated Kholki as well . I have been very aggressive with tuning Windows , DCS , Oculus and Nvidea settings for max performance as part of the commissioning . Perhaps that and clean installs have played a part .

Latest OB has a settings option to hear afterburner in cockpit . Sounds like a mild "boom" and certainly makes life easier .

Which CPU and Motherboard to run DCS really well?
Svsmokey replied to CommandT's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have a Noctua NH--D15S . It cools my 9700k very well , and i am very pleased with it . However , i do not think the NH-D15 will cool a 10900k . You could fry an egg on that cpu ! I personally recommend staying away from 10th gen . The extra cores and/ or hyperthreading will not be helpful for DCS , and the (very) marginal performance gains , particularly at higher res or VR , are not worth the heat stress . -
Hmmm...I practice with the "ready on the ramp" instant mission , load 4 mav-f's , a couple of mk82's and a Litening . Usually head over to Batumi to sink all those lovely ships , or north to the nearest airfield to blow up the Il-76 , the Hip , and hangars/buildings/control tower . I always unload all ordinance , although i pretty consistently get only 3 mav hits on the designated targets . One thing that has changed is you now have to use the "undesignate" button instead of "cage/uncage" to return the pod to snowplow . Prolly correct now , as opposed to before . Does the Harrier have a tpod Los on the hud ? That's my biggest problem with the Hornet . I'm playing with the vv slave now to try to work around it .

I read only the response by Lex , who said it is dependent on the pod and the aircraft . Still leaves hope for Atflir ?
