2.8 loading textures takes a loooooong time.
Hotdognz replied to Das Boot's topic in Game Performance Bugs
All our group have the same issue 100+ pilots on Discord have reported this, in Syria we see the water under the ground for a good 10-20 seconds as the textures load in -
Thanks for the info but I know how to sort my VR out, I have been running VR since the HTC Vive in DCS and consider my self a very experienced user of VR in DCS and know what works and what doesnt to get the maximum FPS out of DCS for my rig I also pass all this on to my Discord group and we are where we are at with my post above

I would have to disagree on this news letter based on my group opinions and talks we have had whilst flying on Discord and in game this week, I was and we all were all really excited for 2.8 and its moving clouds, but I would say 80% thought the patch was pretty lack luster after it broke so much and frame rates dropped for 70% of the VR users, it wasn't overwhelmingly positive at all once you got a few days into it and discovered all the introduced bugs, it certainly took the shine of it which is a shame for such a pumped up update. What we liked PG lighting which is awesome but our group thought it was a strange map to use for this and thought it should have been the Caucus, we know it will be introduced across other maps but the time line on that, well its ED it could take years. F10 map updates What we didn't like FPS hit, as I said 70% of our pilots have said in VR and none VR they have taken a big FPS hit online and some offline, I'm talking up to 25% reduction in FPS compared to 2.7. Module bugs- so many, its too many to list but lots reported here when I have looked CTDs (some are fixed with the patch) Then we get a small patch that fixed quite a few nasty CTDs which was great and few module items but also ignored some pretty major ones like the KA-50 cockpit language issues with mixed Russian/English cockpits and autopilot issue (all reported) this is on a module that never had any major issues. If your beta testers didn't pick this stuff up and report it, id dare say you need some new ones in your testing groups, we picked the KA-50 issue within 5 mins of flying it. I cant recall a time when our servers have been empty on weekends but so far Friday night (our servers big night) we have seen literally zero participation in our online missions, is this due to 2.8 bugs or a slow loss of interest in DCS as its performance declines slowly, I have no idea, but its the first time for a while I have looked at playing some different games for a long time as none of my Discord mate are around flying since 2.8 come out This is also the first time I have set up a duel install of DCS so I can go back and play the last 2.7 build offline for my SP missions with out the 2.8 bugs. Sorry this isn't a positive post, DCS is such a great game and I love playing it as you know, but for me its slowly dying due to a lack of focus on things need and not needed. AI updates - across the board mainly ground units that are boring to fight against. Lack of focus on what your programmers are implementing for future updates i.e. internal 3D modeling of systems on the KA-50 V3 sitting behind panels I wont see from inside the cockpit and don't really care too much for because I cant see them and wont use them, or animated Apache pilots getting in and out of the bird, there is much more these guys could focus on that is way more important than this stuff. Performance promises in updates that don't eventuate when the updates are rolled out. This stuff is killing DCS for long term players like my self, who are actively engaged in DCS and have been for a long time and try to be the best DCS ambassadors we can for the brand on our servers. Cheers

Just updating will check after work later if its fixed

Im curios to know from ED why they picked the PG for the new lighting model roll out, surly it would have made more sense to roll this out the free and more used Caucasus map, the lighting model is awesome in PG and now makes playing on the Caucuses map a dark place to play in with clouds on.

Will we get a quick patch to fix all the broken stuff introduced by this patch that were not in 2.7, not meaning the VR framerates and new weather, or will we have to wait a month while ED fixes up this mess. for instance KA50 cockpit mess constants CDT's that are reported that were not around in 2.7 I know its beta but all the MP servers are on beta.

I think and this is my own personal opinion that this feature we are asking for is of a low priority for ED and if lucky we will see this in maybe 2-3 years, i'm basing this on how long it takes long standing bugs to get fixed in the main DCS game. We have had our server meeting for 2022 looking at 2023 and if we grow past 200gigs for the server install we are taking 1 offline due to increased costs. Also looking at our IL2 server usage with all the maps and all the planes we are at 67gig, I know DCS maps are more detailed but its a big diffrence

Game crash repeatable on my system, Caucus free flight Apache, take off fly around ok, start shooting a train CTD every time I cant upload the crash log as it says it too large which seems to be the trk file

reported CPG VR view is off center to the L side
Hotdognz replied to Hotdognz's topic in Bugs and Problems
Not only is the CPG position to the left its also too high in VR and also 2D, checking from an outside view and comparing it to the view from the pilots seat, you can see too much of what look like to be some sort of black packs on the back of the CPG helmet, compare this to the out side view, its much lower You can change this by locating this file \DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\AH-64D Views.lua Find these lines and change this one to 992 to 950 and it moves the helmet down to the correct position in the cockpit. null[2] = {-- player slot 2 (CPG) CameraViewAngleLimits = {20.000000,140.000000}, CockpitLocalPoint = {1.784 + 1.300, 0.950 - 0.45, -0.0125}, CameraAngleRestriction = {false,90.000000,0.500000}, CameraAngleLimits = {200,-90.000000,90.000000}, EyePoint = {0.090, 0.000, 0.000}, ShoulderSize = 0.25, Allow360rotation = false, limits_6DOF = {x = {-0.2,0.3}, y = {-0.3,0.2}, z = {-0.3,0.3}, roll = 90.000000}, I still can find what moves the helmet to the Right to correct the incorrect position, also the helmet is too close to the headrest, I may look at finding what moves it forward. Any patch or update will reset this so make an OVGME friendly version. -
Regarding the new lighting on PG which is really nice, do the 3rd party devs have to update their maps with the new lighting or does ED do this, if its 3rd party is it a contractual requirement that they do this of can they ignore this new lighting and leave the maps in there current 2.7 state

Do we know if the wipers in the Apache will actually have a wipe the rain away effect, its been done in so many car racing sims for a long time and a couple of other flight sims, at the moment its looks pretty bad watching them move when static and its raining on the glass.

Found after I changed to the map view in VR, now its minimized the FPS counter looks much better.
-
I dont see that arrow in VR

Id like to know also how to improve the visibility in PG its draw distance is terrible, even on the max setting the pop is very annoying, power lines and transmission towers literally pop up 100 feet away when flying a helicopter low and mostly the horizon is dead flat and lifeless until about the 15km mark when high-rises start to pop into view

So far 2.8 seems ok not the big change I was expecting going to version 2.8, iy feels very much like 2.7 but with moving clouds, but the quality of life improvement I really don't like is the new FPS counter, we have gone from a very inobtrusive FPS counter that was transparent in the top corner to a big box now that blocks out a portion of your vision if you keep it on, it doesn't offer anything over the old style and is a step backwards, all its doing is following a trend like fpsVR. I wish we had a choice to use either or.

investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8
Hotdognz replied to some1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Why is 2.7 sharper, the image looks way better than 2.8 -
My VR report, once i set it all back to where my VR settings were prior to release (Save 3) my VR experience was no different except I had a little more headroom on FPS, when I started DCS it had defaulted to a very high preset which cut my FPS down in VR. AS always shadows knocked some FPS from VR so they are all off again, it would be nice to know what VR optimization was made and in what areas so I could adjust accordingly and experimnet in those areas.

Some patch notes would be nice to browse over and discuss while we wait

reported CPG VR view is off center to the L side
Hotdognz replied to Hotdognz's topic in Bugs and Problems
These are the values I edited in the D:\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\AH-64D-views.lua If some one can find the value that moves the head right we can fix this issue ourselves until ED fix it, we can make an OVGME version so we can re use it after each update. Search the file for [2] = {-- player slot 2 (CPG) CockpitLocalPoint = {1.784 + 1.300, 0.992 - 0.45, -0.0125}, 992 = edit this moves the viewdown 1.784 = 1.300 = edit this moves the view up and forward -0.0125 = edit this by increasing value view goes Left (decreasing doesnt go right) Cant find a move right value when editing and trying stuff -
If you use OVGME that will help with what you asked.

reported CPG VR view is off center to the L side
Hotdognz replied to Hotdognz's topic in Bugs and Problems
I tried editing the .lua file with the view settings, I could get the head to move left, up and down but could not find the line to move it to the right.
