GPU/Hardware limitations - new VR build
Hotdognz replied to Mk1_Trebuchet's topic in Virtual Reality
Just popped a 4090 into my newly built PC, similar specs except a Z690 13700K and 64gb DDR4, I had a 3090 prior which just sold so upgrade to the 4090 cost me $1400 AUD I just plonked it in, kept my old G2 settings in Windows for OpenXR, booted up DCS set all settings to high except the shadows on the RH side of the setting's tab, in the F18/Syria free flight i have gone from a steady 45fps to 60-68 smooth as a baby's bum, I have made no other changes or tweaks in Windows. I have seen no need to go tweaking stuff so far. -
Send me a mission we love a challenge and a good fun mission, ill report back on how we did.

Good info but will I buy it? I was going to but will now wait until I see MT, DLSS, ground AI updates and ATC and maybe the dynamic campaign. As a MP only player playing PVE missions on a big group server we run ,the current 4th gen planes are flying in a relatively dead world against ground targets other than the odd SAM, a plane this advanced will only show this lack of decent ground AI even more and how carboard they are in their actions. Flying low with helicopters has proven how bad the ground AI is and I really hope it gets a really good update sooner rather than later.

2 computers with same hardware, massive FPS difference
Hotdognz replied to fastfed's topic in Game Performance Bugs
TBH Thats pretty vague info for the original poster, some help in what to look for could make life easier for him. -
Gun rounds are off target by about -2-5M in the pilot position when bore sighting from a CS, its on target in HS, Im also setting the gun to 800m If I bore sight in a CS Apache in VR my gun rounds are off by a few meters upward, anyone else finding this, im lining up the rings perfectly in the ring and hitting boresight, is there a new method to boresight correctly that i have missed

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Hotdognz replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi f410 and Andre, I can get it to work now but I have had to untick start Start SSM automatically, if I then start SSA first and then manually start SSM I don't get the crash and I can use the bass shaker ok. -

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators

It just does the same, so the issue is with SSM ?? I tried Simshaker Wings in IL2 and that works fine but i guess that doesn't use SSM -

Now im home from a long weekend away I have updated DCS, done a clean and repair also, added the OpenXR command line to a DCS.exe shortcut as advised and fired up DCS on my G2, happy to report no issues at all and VR is working well in my go to test mission, then added back in my OpenXR Toolkit app settings as I had set them back the defaults and gained another 15 FPS OpenXR Toolkit settings (done inside the game with CTRL F2 Enable FSR and set it 80% Set Sharping at 60% Set Framelock to 60 Restarted the game and now runs just as good as it was with Opencomposite prior to the patch debacle and then hotfix I have had to create an instruction step by step on our Discord to help the none tech savvy out who were using Opencomposite which seems to have helped most get it running.
-
Most if not all of the guys in our Discord with VR who I fly with most nights have resorted back to what they had prior to ED trying to implement OpenXR with this patch and the hotfix. All have reverted back to using the Opencomposite or SteamVR method and running with MR running if they need it. To me it seems ED haven't achieved anything yet with this OpenXR rollout except to cause confusion amongst its user base and some angst with users who were not tech savvy which wasn't helpful at all, it took a few of us quite some time trying to help others out and getting information from here to our Discord on what was working and what wasn't and getting them sorted out with a broken DCS install. I do hope ED can learn from this and any future updates to OpenXR in a future patch make it easier for the lest tech savvy to use and understand, include instructions on what to do and what it means to them and also properly test it first before rolling out a massive change like this as it obviously it wasn't tested by many beta testers with VR as the MR issue would have been picked up very quickly. OpenXR is a great change and very welcome, but we need a solid release with release notes and documentation of the changes from ED going forward.

Granted this is a beta and we are all testers, at least we got a roll back/semi fix quickly. My hope is ED can get to a point with OpenXR that another sim uses, where I launch in 2D and then can press an assigned key and OpenXR kicks in and I can be in 3D, there are so many benefits to this especially when mission editing, and I believe this has been implemented into the of OpenXR API to be able to do this.
-
Who would have thought the biggest item in this patch had no mention and was forgot about (OpenXR) and didn't work very well, hopefully a patch will fix the use of MR very soon as its now unplayable in VR with it off.

Has anyone ever sourced any longer wingwing extension cables, I want to make my own 200mm curved extension but cant seems to find the 6pin din plugs that they use, would prefer a made up solution but would happily build my own with parts. Cheers

No FCR in the “2023 and Beyond” video
Hotdognz replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Literally 1 shot of the Apache with the FCR and you find it disappointing, may EA isn't for you, it will come when its ready and Beyond 2023 was a show case for many other items not even in the DCS world. -
4 january 2023 DCS 2021/2022 and Beyond Video feature Updates?
Hotdognz replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS 2.9
It was a great video and saw a few items i,m excited about, Kiowa, F15, C130 and the Sinai map which I thought we may have seen more off Was was noticeable is the lack of Redfor planes in that video, only 1 Mig29 was shown, DCS is defiantly becoming a very Nato/Western based aircraft sim/game on all fronts of development, and it doesn't seem like anything modern with a full fidelity cockpit and FM is being developed for DCS from the opposition side to fight against. I was also very happy to see the DLSS and MC comment at the very beginning this really has me excited that we will get some better performance in VR some time in the future. Im also a helo guy mostly and was excited to see the Chinook but it will be a module ill pass on until its at a 50% sale price as most of the missions I fly I can use the Mi8. Just watched the video again on a 75" TV screen in 4K, WOW it looked so real the opening shots of all the aircraft -
Its hard to understand a module of this depth and also that its an ALL new model that the BS 3 cockpit isn't fully clickable, some very strange design decisions along with the incomplete English cockpit not having a English HUD. Still its workable with control binds.

reported The most annoying controls bug ever in 2.8
Hotdognz replied to Hotdognz's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs - General
This bug is still in the latest version 3 patches later since it was reported, as a new user to DCS a bug like this would certainly put me off the game. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk
