  1. No not that cage. The one on the bottom left that covers the gyros, radios, weapons IFF etcetera.
  2. It would be nice if you could have a jester wheel or a george or petrovich set of commands, and she would be called Sasha. From the wheel you could get her to lock targets kinda like you can get Jester to do, but she works off of the available ground based radar assets.
  3. Speaking of startup. I tried flipping all the switches at once using the master lever that allows all switches to be flipped in one go, but my gyros' wouldn't align properly if I did that. When I did the procedure normally as per wags video everything worked fine, but I'm wondering why it then has that master lever to flip all the switches at once if that cause the startup to not work properly
  4. I mean the F-16 community got Ed to change the number of harms it can carry from 2 to 4, and that was IMO a far greater outlier then this is
  5. Good for the odd Jeep or humvee kill, or apeing the harriers anti-radiation sidewinder to disable sams.
  6. I feel you are grossly under estimating the MiG-29s BVR ability in it's current state. Against veteran ai it's been pretty easy for me to win the joust against SARH oppenents even with just the vanilla R27R's. It's ability to get high and fast very quickly, and to even stay perched there for a half decent amount of time is not to be underestimated. Yeah if your fighting Fox 3 equipped oppenents your going to struggle, but that's not really the fight this first generation of MiG-29 was ever designed to fight against. Same if your going to try to take on 2-4 other 4rth gen oppenents all by yourself (although I don't see how you could really have a much better time trying to do this any more with any of the teen series fighters either) You can by the way setup ground search radars and sams and do radio calls for picture to help build your SA, like we used to do on alpenwolfs cold war server back in the day, but this also works for single player missions I can think of a lot of interesting missions that you could set up right now in SP. Like scrambling with an AI wingman from a roadside based as a group of 4 Phantoms go to make a ground attack. And you ambush them from below while a ERW radar site gives you vectors from picture calls. Or patrolling perched high above friendly SAMs protecting an airbase as a group of Hornets with HARM's and Sparrows try to perform SEAD to soften up the air defense and your there to swat them out of the sky from high altitude, while the friendly SAMs keep them at standoff distance Or some daring nap of the earth ground attack missions using quick pop up rocket or bomb attacks like in the viggen. (Wait till your see the Viggens RWR) I can think of loads of missions. The Module the MiG-29 mostly resembles for me is the M-2000C. Both have quirky radars you need to learn to get used to, and both are set up to do similar roles.
  7. I'm still trying to fully understand the logic of not having a dedicated icon. I mean it's a huge advantage even just the dot in the F1. I figure it still just comes down to doctrine and the Soviets being tied to the numbers game. For them it's not individual pilots that are going to turn the tide, and you have limited flight hours per pilot due to cost. I believe Robert Hierl said it was around 60 flight hours per year for the east Germans vs 240 hours for the West Germans. So the idea it you send the pilots up, and they following the steering cues and the envelope that you have set up to do the interception automated. No need to put a direct icon where the target is physically. We want you to fly the most efficient programed path the put your missiles into optimal range and firing zone. Yes that might mean due to the inflexiblity in the system that some pilots might not be able to actively adapt, and will get shot down, but if the majority follow the plan then the odds will stack up, everyone will be in the correct place at the correct time, and engage efficiently. And even when you then get to the merge, most of your targeting will be looking outside of the cockpit with the helmet cueing system, so you don't really need a icon for that too untill your are actually employing fixed guns. That's how I feel the logic goes.
  8. Lol. Look if i didn't want the full MiG-29 experience I would have been content with flaming cliffs.
  9. One by design the mig-29 can't use the air brake with the fuel tank. Two. Make sure you have the tank jettison cover in the uncovered position, or you can't jetison the tank. Jetisoning the tank requires 2 key bindings, or looking around the front of the stick to click the button cover.
  10. I'm away for three days due to work, so can't make a track file. Can someone else just go into mission editor, and lock up a head on target at around 60km, and then press the first detent, and let the target close to you and post that track here? It will show up as a funnel at first, and then flicker to the target circle occasionally, then somewhere around 50-30km it will be just be the solid circle.
  11. AreiaGloria says it should only show up around 1.6km when I posted about it in the regular forum. Not sure what his source is, I can't find it in my MiG-29 manual, but he has more then me, and has spent more time going over the details, and while there is part of me that in my heart of hearts wants him to be wrong. I sadly don't think he is. Also I don't even think computed gun targeting is supposed to necessarily work in RAD mode. I believe it uses the irst for tracking and ranging.
  12. Lol. I know, hell I hope I'm wrong and some SME pipes in, but let's be honest. Part of the reason we like the MiG-29 is because it's hard mode for 4rth gen fighters
  13. So when selecting first detent on the trigger you get a circle highlighting the actual target if you have a current radar lock, and your inside a certain distance. typically outside of 50km you will just get the gun funnel if you press the first detent. However if you close to within 30km it will flicker from the gun funnel to the circle with the locked target. Then once inside 30km you will just get the circle around the locked target like in the picture below: While handy, I think this is likely a current bug, and the ranges are way off for this to appear that far off outside of gun employment range. *edit. Since the new update, now there is no longer a funnel as the ranges I test it just automatically puts a circle on the locked target when the first detent is used.Mig29lock.trk
  14. I'm quite certain you both have if you've locked with the radar. If locking with the irst or any of the IRST close combat mode you won't see it since your not locking with the radar.
  15. For the FC version you would be correct. However in full fidelity that's just a steering cue for best intercept to the target. The diamond will show how far your antenna is positioned off to the side.
  16. I do agree that it's helps when cranking. It's sadly though terrible if you want help getting eyes on target to see if they launched first.
  17. Important to note that the diamond will not change position on the hud relative to your roll. For example: If you lock a target and the diamond is situated lower then your cross hairs. You might think that if you roll 180 degrees that the diamond will now appear above your cross hairs, however this will not be the case. The diamond will still show below your cross hairs. This is somewhat counter intuitive often to a lot of people. Myself included.
  18. Lock on in RAD mode can take anywhere from 2 to 7 seconds of holding down the button. Also moving the cursor box and dynamically moving the aircraft can cause difficulty in locking. Locking also in auto has limitation, and will usually have a harder time picking up and Locking targets Locking with the MiG-29 is probably harder than in any 4rth gen aircraft. Things that will help is. 1: making sure you you keep the aircraft relatively stable when Locking. 2. Use head on, or pursuit modes when the occasion calls for it, over auto mode. Auto mode is a compromise trying to give you the best of both worlds, but it also means you have a harder time properly detecting the target, and so when you go to lock on the area it's scanning to lock on is not as precise as if you were in the other mode. The MiG-29s radar is useful. But mostly in the scope that you have time to set up your attack. If your requiring to find a lock quickly, then you are going to struggle more then with other 4rth gen aircraft.
  19. With the Mig-29A Fulcrum jousting up at 12000m and going mach 1.2 I won firing at 27-28km and he and I both cranked, but him not as much as me. Here it is from earlier today on Contention. https://youtu.be/RDtTykIA9dA?si=UuEw5I-k1T6g_gtz With the FC MiG-29 and the old model of the R-27 i hit a Tomcat at just under 50km (48km), but he also was flying straight at me on Enigmas cold war It's in this video here. https://youtu.be/v5a_BxBMlF4?si=LWiFUt18itoEibuU
  20. Yes this is normal. Once you switch from the RAD position to any of the others your radar stops emitting. Unless the coop switch is on...but currently it's none functioning, so your radar turns off. It's usefull if you want to do silent intercepts. In ideal circumstances with GCI datalink working your attack would look as such. You would be guided to the target by GCI datalink, that would give you steering cues, ranges and a icon on the hud where the target is. All without turning on your radar. Once you get close you can then potentially use the IRST to continue to lock the target with the irst sensor, which will auto slave to the datalink target while still not turning on your radar and alerting the enemies RWR. At the last second you switch on the coop switch which turns on and slaves the radar to the datalink and IRST lock target, and then fire.
  21. Might still use it for now until coop mode is working properly so that I can employ R27R at targets inside 15km more reliably The vertical scan close combat mode radar mode really has trouble locking beaming targets, and you can't slave radar to any of the other close combat modes at the moment.
  22. At what range should it work though? Because at some point you will get the icon, that your to line up with the other reticle that is to appear at 1.2km
  23. So one thing I don't like about the real life MiG-29 is that when you lock a target and you want to employ missiles, instead of like on other 4rth gen fighters (or the FC3 MiG-29s) where you would get a box, or circle, or a dot (or some other icon) highlighting the target directly on your HUD you instead have have a steering circle, and a diamond to show where the radar is pointing, and this diamond does not adjust for the roll of your aircraft if your trying to follow it. like in the picture below. This means that sometimes your not sure which target you've locked for certain, and it takes a fair bit of time and guess work to determine if the speck your looking at is the one you locked, especially if your firing into a furball environment. HOWEVER** There is a work around. You do get a circle highlighting the actual target when you pull the trigger into the first detent like if you were employing guns if you have a current radar lock, and your inside a certain distance. typically outside of 50km you will just get the gun funnel if you press the first detent. However if you close to within 30km it will flicker from the gun funnel to the circle with the locked target. Then once inside 30km you will just get the circle around the locked target like in the picture below: This is currently handy if you want to actually know where on the hud is the actual target that you locked up is. Now I'm not sure if this is a current bug, and the ranges are way off for this to appear, or if this is something that actually was possible with the system, and could be used as a work around. Interested to see.
  24. I'm really enjoying the MiG-29, but I think some people need to realize that there are still a few missing features when it comes to the IRST, radar, and helmet-mounted sight. Currently, the COOP switch in the MiG-29 is non-functional. With it enabled, the two sensors are supposed to work together: depending on which sensor you’re using, the other will automatically slave to it. This means you should be able to lock a target with the IRST, and then have the radar lock as well, without needing to manually switch sensors and relock the target. As for the helmet-mounted sight, right now you need to achieve a target lock first, and only then will your IR missiles slave to it. However, according to the manual, by using the helmet-mounted sight and holding the lock-on button, the missiles should be able to target directly, irrespective of whether a lock has been achieved through the optical locator laser station or the radar.
