I meant so we could maybe get a d tomcat. But sure be a drama queen.
-
This is good news. I hope they get them all.

Nah, the pleasure is ours. The external lights have been a thorn in my eyes for years, but I knew you'd get around to them like you did with the Viggen. It's a lower priority item and eventually you get there. And you did. It's nice that trust is rewarded with consistency.

Taxiing with the Tomcat using the flight directors works fine if you use the salute keybind. Only issues I've noticed is that flight directors seem to have problems with the dimensions of the Tomcat. Cat 1 specifically has a hard time lining me up properly, so I have to suffer through "that bump" to get aligned with the cat. But it's not a big deal.

F14 not authorized / antivirus / false positive
Slant replied to Semaphore's topic in Bugs and Problems
I agree that these things happen. But they shouldn't. And the "do this and move on" attitude is a little too casual. This isn't a new software that was pushed out recently. I can't contact the guys working the Windows Defender blacklists, so this needs to be done by ED/HB. I will whitelist this thing for now, but dismissing the problem like some people here do is not the solution. -
F14 not authorized / antivirus / false positive
Slant replied to Semaphore's topic in Bugs and Problems
Because there is a reason these things trigger AV... It's not like AV's generate random lists of things to strike. Handwaving it and telling us to effectively disable the AV is not only incredibly lazy, it's also making IT security guys' palms sweat. Don't do that. It's bad advice. -
The bug occurs on startup and shutdown. Instead of a gradient pitch increase, the right engine pitches up in steps. The left engine works fine. Reproducable anywhere, just startup right engine should do the trick.

As per the guide from BN, literally that should not be the case. They showed specifically how to set up waypoints, loadouts etc. for that template. What we use it for is irrelevant, I am talking about features that were demonstrated for everyone, but the F-14 is struggling. Most likely because our special waypoints are not part of the "normal" waypoint system. Has nothing to do with pickup or not, a notion I strongly disagree with.

We are setting the waypoints as usual in the ME, but once the mission runs on op night, when someone joins a dynamic spawn slot, these do not show up in the kneeboard and are not programmed in at all. I am confused why there is no chatter about this. Are we doing something wrong?

Couple questions: 1. Will this work with the Tomcat? 2. Can we limit the catapults if we only want to take off from the bow or the waist catapults for some reason?

Same here. Absolute state of popeye.

F-14 A/B feature follow-up, wish list and beyond
Slant replied to scommander2's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Truth. But this has been pointed out a long time ago already. It's one of those low priority things, we can presume. They'll get around to it eventually. I remember the Viggen having miserable lights for most of its existance, then at some point almost out of the blue they get all bright and shiny with ground reflections and all that... one can only hope the same will happen for the Tomcat eventually. -
Super late to this, but could you point me to a place where the logic is described? I'd like to understand how the supercarrier decides that and if I can customize my setup in the mission editor with some smart placement. Or if it's just random or chronologically or however. Thanks!

I'll deny everything, my report doesn't reflect what you said!

Progress pictures on the Eurofighter Typhoon
Slant replied to DashTrueGrit's topic in DCS: Eurofighter
Once more, I'd like to watch out for my fellow fans and their mental health and point out that lack of progress pictures doesn't mean lack of progress. It literally just allows one conclusion: Nobody posted more pictures. That's the only definitive statement that can be drawn out of it. HB is very transparent about everything they do And if you follow their posts, you'll find out that they are actually very busy people, and it seems that a lot of the things they do is also furthering the production of other aircraft. Background stuff we don't care about. That's the problem, they still have to do that background stuff, precisely so we don't have to care about it. But it's invisible work. Feels frustrating if you're hawking for progress. But that's my take on it, so I work on managing my expectations. So, Typhoon is creeping along while they get the Phantom into a state that's not entirely embarrassing (which I assume is their actual metric "Let's not embarrass ourselves at least, alright?" for Early Access haha, j/k). On the flip side, speculating about 3 or 4 years until release... that's just torturing oneself. Personally - I'm not going to tell you how to manage your expectations - but I like to just go by "stuff has to happen before Typhoon" and that's the only state I need to know for now. Nothing that happens in this thread or any other thread posted by users will make the Typhoon come faster or slower. /ramble -
@Victory205 Thank you for that video. Nothing as infectious as children laughing and having fun! @IronMike You're doing good, Jester's fine. A lot of man hours went into recording him and I think Graywolf did a good job at voice acting. Sometimes Jester is a little too motivated (Dude, we're still 50 ft above ground, stop talking about your wife, dang! And I know the basket is a little bit to the right. I can see that, what do you think I'm looking at! :P) but it could be so so much worse. Been playing since release, still not getting boring. And honestly, having a two ship with a full crew, that's a level of multiplayer that other people just won't get. Strike Eagle will have the same awesome experience, it's a special breed that sits in the back and directs the action like a quarterback with the baddest, meanest assortment of weaponry available.

Luckily, you can't turn your engines on without your crew chief telling you to, so hopefully he's paying attention to random people walking near the intake or exhaust.

Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat, Update 8th June 2023
Slant replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Just using the opportunity to thank you for all the time and effort you put into your posts. It's interesting to see your perspective and putting yourself out there is not something many SMEs like to do. I greatly appreciate the simultaneously entertaining nature and the inside scoop of your posts. People like me are always hunting for those nuggets of wisdom gold that people like you tend to (acceidentally) hide in half-sentences and as afterthoughts, because it's all obvious to you. This post confirmed my suspicion that when a fellow simmer took me to a flat scissors at 80-100 knots, it felt unnatural. Sure I was excited that the plane was still controllable (what with zero risk to my life as well), but the bastard in the back of my head went "We shouldn't be doing this, this feels all kinds of wrong and not the most efficient way to handle this situation" all the while he kept telling me how fun it is to scare Hornet drivers by being even slower than they dare! Luckily, I don't PvP a lot, so it's inconsequential to me and at the same time an interesting experience. But as you pointed out, it's a bit too bold for the real world. And thus my interest in that particular flight regime dropped below "Well, I guess technically you can do it... and now I know what to avoid doing." -
Progress pictures on the Eurofighter Typhoon
Slant replied to DashTrueGrit's topic in DCS: Eurofighter
If this disappoints you incredibly, it is a pretty decent sign that you are not managing your expectations properly. When thinking about the EF Typhoon, think in years, not weeks or months. Patience, it will take a while to get here. Having more news doesn't make it go any faster. -
Progress pictures on the Eurofighter Typhoon
Slant replied to DashTrueGrit's topic in DCS: Eurofighter
Nowhere, presumably? They have a bit more on their plate than picking pictures because we are curious. Curiousity doesn't put food on their table. -
Can confirm. Only time I broke the hook was when I went up 4-2-2 and gas up to the brim and immediately returned for a landing. Was pleasantly surprised by a gentle reminder of the aircraft that I'm about 15k lbs too heavy with a subtle *plink* when the hook broke off. Now all we need is barricades to finish that experience... oh and well, basically everything else on the SC. But at least we have a daytime platcam and 4 wires. Worth the 40 bucks.

Introduction of an Old Former A-4E Pilot
Slant replied to RealA4EPilot's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Hey, thanks for dropping in. That's a whole lot of experience. Not flying the A-4 myself, but there are a lot of fans around here! -
Tacview-20220128-234637-DCS-F-14B_IA_NTTR_Dogfight_F-5E.zip.acmi
