Will we ever get realistic physics for carrier landings?
notproplayer3 replied to obious's topic in Wish List
Yes, now that you mention it, trapping the f14 seems awfully easy. Like you said, you simply slam the plane down on the deck and it will catch the wire. That's pretty much exactly like the FC3 su33. The f/a-18 on the other hand. I remember how frustrated I was when doing my first carrier landings because it was so goddamn hard to catch the wire. -

So what's your critical opinion on the new map
notproplayer3 replied to twistking's topic in DCS: Syria Map
Best looking map no doubt, performance is the worse but flying helos low to the ground seem to be fine with my system (i7-6700k,gtx970,16gb ram, 1080p high settings) But some missions with a lot of stuff happening in fixed winged aircraft such as the f/a-18 are totally unplayable because of the stutters. Some other are totally fine though so I don't know what's really happening. It's really the stutters that can sometimes be gamebreaking. The fps doesn't seem to play unrealistically worse than the other maps. -
Some of my favorite all time missions in DCS are CSAR missions so any new helicopters that can do this role are very welcome but damn, I must admit I have a crush on the uh60, any kind of variant would be equally as awesome. I hope we get this helo soon ! Edit: the most I think about it the most I believe this must be my number one wish for a module.

I do own the gazelle, and this is of course my own opinion but I wouldn't recommend it. Mainly because of the flight model that is controversial and that myself, I really don't like. Even polychop themselves said that they'll bring a new FM for the gazelle after the kiowa they're making so perhaps wait for that or even, if the reviews are good, buy the kiowa that will come out. This chopper will probably have a bit more capability than the gazelle. In any way, the ka50 and especially the mi8 are in my opinion some of the best modules in DCS in terms of overall quality, and I must say the mi8 is my favorite helo to fly with the huey followed closely by the ka50. For the gazelle, I really can't say this much. Having said that I still recommend you inform yourself more than simply reading some comments, there are people that really enjoy flying it and you may very well be one of them. Plus the gazelle is quite interesting systems wise and capability wise too. A deeper learning experience than the huey that's for sure but not as deep as the ka50 and about on the same level as the mi8.

Mission 2 (search and rescue, Mi-8)
notproplayer3 replied to NASA6's topic in Mi-8MTV2 and Ka-50 Memory of a Hero Campaign
No problem it's all good now. Though I would recommend linking the spawning of the ship and the activation of the signal (if I understand the issue correctly), I've got no problem with having things not spawn if not following the flight plan, but it just seems weird to have the signal and not the ship. -
Mission 2 (search and rescue, Mi-8)
notproplayer3 replied to NASA6's topic in Mi-8MTV2 and Ka-50 Memory of a Hero Campaign
Got the exact same issues as you NASA6, I don't understand why this hasn't been fixed yet. It's a cool mission but flying over an hour with not much happening only to have the mission being broken in the end is extremely frustrating. -
I've got a question I haven't found the answer to: how could it be that ah64's couldn't carry flares ? I mean, it seems to me as they are pretty much essential in even low intensity combat against very common IR missiles. Every chopper in DCS has them and for good cause. Did the ah64 have a totally different method of dealing with IR missiles that didn't require flares at the time or what? I don't know, this just seems pretty mind-blowing to me for some reason.

I can only agree given I actually live in the rectangle you drew (near Payerne)

Progress pictures on the Eurofighter Typhoon

This is as good as it gets, absolutely top notch, thanks for the screenshots ! I am literally trembling from the excitement ! -
These "exotic" systems are exactly why the mig29 is an interesting project, like I said, it could be used as a platform for other redfor planes and I want to believe ED sees it this way too. Other than that what are you saying the f16 brings to the table ? Fantasy loadouts ? How does this add anything new to the core game engine ? HTS ? This is a system for the f16, it wouldn't add anything to the core game engine itself. In any way I stand my point, ED doesn't need to make another 4th gen bluefor jet since, like you said, they are standardized and without any stretch of the truth I'd even say it would become very repetitive. F16, f/a-18, (f14) and f15e coming down the line. We've got the big three US planes so what else could ED do anyways ? That's exactly why the mig29 is very exciting, it's something else and it would be the only jet ED could really, logically, do in fact. There's no scenario because there aren't the appropriate Russian planes yet. Also, that's why making a poll to this thread would be interesting, to get an idea of who would've wanted more russian stuff in DCS. I personally believe that there is a big audience wanting russian stuff. Firstly the quite big russian community in DCS might like that and perhaps we do not realize since we are hanging around the english speaking part of the forums. Secondly I guess there would be guys just like me who really appreciate russian airplanes or who don't want to fly in american airplanes anymore.
-
You mention the mig23 as being a third party's choice to make this module: "they can do whatever they want, it's their development time" So why wouldn't it apply to ED ? Like BIGNEWY said, ED just wants to do a mig29 so why wouldn't they ? Not all revolves around making planes to develop new technologies for the sim. The f16 doesn't really bring anything new in terms of totally new technologies because the hornet already has pretty much everything the f16 has in terms of those. DCS WW2 is also a whole other side of DCS that you could argue against with the same arguments you used against the mig29 yet ED has released all those modules and will still continue to do so like the mosquito indicates because it works for them. Finally, I do think that there is indeed a big audience wanting any kind of redfor and of course me saying this would seem like I am biased and yes, I absolutely am, I have been craving for new redfor modules. Nevertheless you should've perhaps made a poll to your thread asking if people prefer what ED is doing right now or if they would want to get exclusively more modern American planes. A new redfor module, while you might think doesn't add anything, I think adds immense possibilities and scenarios, firstly in terms of soviet systems that are a breath of fresh air when we already take the popular f/a-18, f16, f14 and even the a10c that do have similarities in their flight systems and overall cockpit philosophy and secondly in possible scenarios. I am starting to become bored of the repetitive nato vs X country fights with me playing the americans. I simply want to have a russia vs X country fight with me playing the russians or any other eastern block country. In the end I could also imagine the mig29 becoming a foundation for other russian full fidelity fighters for DCS just as DCS WW2 is a thing. This, is all my opinion, but so is your thread, we both have our own opinions on the matter and ED chose to do the mig 29, I fully support them in this decision.

wishful thinking Did ED sneak in another preview?
notproplayer3 replied to Dannyvandelft's topic in Chit-Chat
yeah, as much as I want to believe it isn't possible the su34 could become a module, part of me still kinda considers this plane. You see, ED said that the eagerly awaited aircraft clues are to be looked in the 2021 and beyond video. I'm pretty sure the eagerly awaited aircraft isn't the apache. So if it isn't the apache what other plane was shown in the video that we don't already have? It seems the su34 was the only non ww2 ai aircraft that was shown. Yes, I know I'm just speculating, it's probably a far stretch to believe any of it anyway. -
If the apache was the mistery module all along I would be very disappointed, it isn't really "mindmelting". It still would be an awesome addition, love any new helo. I will nevertheless, eagerly wait about any news on what is the mistery module as I personally feel that it didn't come of as that of a surprise since we already knew a bit that the ah64 (though the a model) was coming. Not going to lie but I was really hoping like a lot of folks to finaly see some modern redair annouced.

How did you find out about / or get into DCS?
notproplayer3 replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS 2.9
I was a lot into arma 3, then in my youtube recommended I get a su25 video showcase in DCS, never heard of this sim before watching the video. Got me interested and have been hooked ever since that day (2017). -
yeah both huey and mi8 are amazing modules, some of the best in DCS. I recommend perhaps starting with the huey, yes it is more hands on as it doesn't have a pitch autopilot like the mi8 but it doesn't get in a vrs state as easily as the mi8 meaning you can land more aggressively and with less planning ahead. Basically I would recommend it for very hot and quick landings where you don't exactly know where you're gonna land and when. The mi8 on the other hand should be treated more gently than the huey, I personnaly always think ahead of when I'm gonna land and always take a much longer slowdown, approach and touchdown when I see the landing spot. But it still can get in and out very fast don't get me wrong. General flying is quite simpler in the mi8 as it has pitch autopilot and feels a lot more stable. It is also quite a bit faster than the huey. The landings just felt hard to me at first because of vrs but like I said, you gotta treat the helo gentler. Both are excellent choices. I myself can't really decide if I were to loose those two modules and have to pick a first one to buy again.

Yes, I can confirm, there was indeed is an X Open beta with no mods.
-
Sorry if I didn't get back to you sooner but you are absolutely right, just tested the weapon and indeed there is a big X on the weapon even when everything is configured correctly (I think). Though the X and the missing "in range" cue seem to be the only bugged things because I could still launch my weapon and it would hit the target just fine (even if I didn't get the data link pod working). Here's a track by the way. fa18agm84e.trk
-
The big X just shows that your weapon isn't configured and in the correct parameters for launch. I don't remember the exact details but configure the weapon correctly as shown in YouTube tutorials (putting in the correct coordinates and linking the missile to your data link pod), and then get your plane in the launch zone as shown on your hsi. Then the X will dissappear and you'll be able to launch the weapon. It is the exact same logic as other smart weapons such as the jdams/jsows

What makes the Hind "the flying tank"?
notproplayer3 replied to Milkyblue's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
If I recall correctly this nickname was given by the soviet pilots operating this helo, a nickname that was also given to the il2. I would guess it's because both the gunner and the pilot were protected up to 12.7mm ground fire. I also found this on wikipedia: "The Mi-24 fuselage is armored and can resist impacts from 12.7 mm (0.50 in) rounds from all angles. The titanium rotor blades are resistant to 12.7 mm rounds. The cockpit is protected by ballistic-resistant windscreens and a titanium-armored tub.[8] The cockpit and crew compartment are overpressurized to protect the crew in NBC conditions.[9]" -
well, the f15e we will be getting isn't the same thing as the f15c but it's already close enough for the moment, I'd rather see ED get in other projects if their ressources are limited.
-
I absolutely love this jet, very interesting service history among many airforces. Also, I hope I didn't misunderstand what I just read but are we getting 4 versions ? I am absolutely trembling by the excitement. Wish you guys the absolute best in achieving your goals !

Honest question to all those reading the thread, do you like the FM of the mig21 ? Do you feel it is realistic ?

The "eagerly awaited aircraft for DCS World"
notproplayer3 replied to Bersagliere81's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Don't quote me of that because I'm not sure at all, but from what I heard, it will be an redfor plane or a plane at the very least. The apache would be awesome but it wouldn't be a "surprise", ED said they were planning to do this helo
