Brunner Force Feedback Joystick Base
heloguy replied to Mozart's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Kingpinda, thanks, just DLed it. I uploaded my FW and helo profiles. Nothing too special with mine, just increased the forces a bit, and mapped the buttons for trim in each. I think the problem I have is that I don't want to have to swap extension/grip setups when I switch between helos and fixed wing, so the overheating issue is bigger when not flying helos. The gooseneck allows me to have the resting stick grip in a more comfortable place while resting my hand on my thigh, but I've adjusted to having it a bit further forward now. I'll still mess around with it when I get a chance. -

Now you have me curious. I had abandoned the idea of using a “gooseneck” extension because of overheating and weight, but now I’d like to know what the max temp is I’ll send them an email. I did dig up an old email I’d sent where I mentioned using it as a helicopter cyclic, and the tech support agent immediately mentioned NOT to use an extension due to possible overheating issues. Of course, I still am, but again, it drove me to be cautious with the total weight of the extension and grip. Kingpinda, would you mind sharing your profile for cls-2? -

I looked around, but the only reference temp I could find was from their quick start manual on their website, which said keep ENVIRONMENTAL temp below 40 deg C. I take that as the room temp. It may be worth asking their tech support. -

I had a custom extension made from a listing on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/THRUSTMASTER-WARTHOG-ALUMINIUM-GOOSENECK-EXTENSIONS-FOR-HELI-FLIGHT-SIM-PILOTS/293059996503?hash=item443bbcab57:m:mbakdbpk8lD7Degoh_pVdlw Unfortunately this extension's weight, coupled with an F-22 Pro grip (yes, the all-plastic version from the 90s that I converted with Cougar innards) caused much of the same behavior. I ended up taking the extension away after reading on Brunner's website about not allowing the base to overheat. I now run a very light aluminum 20cm extension, with the F-22 Pro grip, and that seems to be the magic combination of functionality, and not taxing the base. Highest temp I see with this combo is between 30-32 deg C. I do miss the extra push on the CMS from my Warthog grip, but based on Brunner's warnings, and personal experience, I wouldn't dream of using that grip with an extension. I have a T-50, which should work fine weight wise, it's just too tall for me to use with my setup without hitting other parts of my simpit. -

I had the same experience with the CM grip. Never got it to work. I ended up building a Thrustmaster F-22 grip with Cougar innards as I wanted to use an extension, and save weight. They asked to purchase my T-50cm from me, and I replied that I would, but never heard back. -
Anyone else? Is this a bug?

Wanted to see if I'm missing something. I've been playing the A2A refuel instant action training mission, and trying to stay on the hose until topped off. After 11,000 lbs, Jester stops reading fuel off, and so I took notice, looking down at the gauge. 11,900 is the most I seem to be able to take on. Looking at the A/C config, it has two empty 300gal tanks, and the internal fuel should be around 16000 IIRC, but twice now, on two separate attempts (Fly Again), I can't get the thing to take gas above 11,900. I'm probably doing something wrong, but wanted to see if anyone else had had the same problem.

+1 for the paddle.

Brunner Force Feedback Joystick Base

Without taking it apart, I can’t say for sure, but it feels like all effects come from the base motors. In fact, the stick oscillates a bit if left alone sometimes. -

Ranma, As my understanding of programming is limited (nil), I just wanted to ask, how hard do you think would it be to integrate using the vJoy and only utilize the trim effects? I ask the question, as I am interested in what you've been posting (albeit, just lurking). I think these are the most important, with stall buffeting being close after that. For fixed, and rotary wing alike, though, when using trim, corresponding movement of the stick is most important. Hardware trim through CLS2 does this already, but this is limited in 'realism' for modern aircraft only. It would be great to be able to adjust the P-51's trim, for example, using buttons on a different controller, and have the stick adjust based on that. Even with the current plugins for P3d, and X-Plane, I seem to have better luck with hardware trim, than with the plugin. When I set up the VRS Superbug in P3d, I created a profile using software trim. All buttons were confirmed mapped correctly. The roll trim would actually move the stick, but pitch trim didn't move anything at all. I ended up going back to hardware trim, and the only thing the plugin does now, is provide a bit of engine rumble. -
Unveiling the VKB TECS Throttle Control System
heloguy replied to UIV's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
And here I thought I might actually be reading news about a VKB product...and instead read about car warranties? WTF... There are PMs for a reason. -
+1! This looks great!

That was it, thanks Ranma!

I have an issue with mine: the lower DEPR rocker button and both INTEN rocker buttons register in DCS, but not in the Windows control panel, or in other sims. I've attached a picture to show which buttons.

Any news on this? I pre-ordered as well. Edit: Nevermind, found this: https://www.black-hog.com/2019/02/06/project-update-production-january-2019/

Aaaand…..off to send a message to Brunner to see if they can implement this on the CLS-E.

[NJO BUG] Su-33 HDD/MFD useless - sun glare(reflection)
heloguy replied to Falcon_S's topic in Su-33 for DCS World
Actually, as someone who flies with real world MFDs quite often, the effect is pretty realistic. What is not realistic, is that you can't place something (your hand, head, etc) in the way to block the sun, and see the MFD. -
I assume you used the shipping calculator for UPS. I removed that one now, as I forgot their international rates are ridiculous. I left the USPS calculator, which gives a price of around $71.00 to Scotland. I checked the USPS website, and got the same quote. If the shipping is cheaper upon actually sending the item, I would refund the difference.

My bad, price adjusted. I think I was mentally adding the shipping to the total from when I bought it.

Yes, it works, but you have to use Brunner's profile software to use it correctly. If you ever used the SimFFB utility that was floating around here, it gives you similar functionality. Under the 'Trim' tab in the Profile Manager, you choose 'Hardware Trim' mode. You choose what button on the grip is a trim release, as well as which buttons motor the trim hat. After you set a profile, you just need to remember to fire up the Brunner software (CLS2Sim), and click the connect button once your joystick is up and running. I could easily send you my profile for DCS helos and fixed wing if you send me a PM. Definitely worth the extra step to have functioning trim in helos. I've been using the stick with Prepar3D and X-Plane 11 with ok results. Both sims require a plug-in install to make the stick work properly in FFB mode. I haven't had good luck with trim in fixed wing applications, but the vibration due to engines and ground roll have worked fine. I've ended up using the 'Hardware Trim' mode with both of those sims as well. The turbulence function seemed very robotic, and had a set frequency, so I disabled it, as I found it annoying. I think it would be nice if DCS ever got a plug-in, but based on what I've seen with Prepar3D and X-Plane, I won't cry if it never does. The effects are ok with those two sims, but I find the Buttkicker and Jet Seat to be adequate for feedback (especially the Jet Seat). As far as the grip is concerned, I've pretty much stayed with the F-22 grip I cobbled together. I only slightly miss the push function of the CMS switch on my Warthog grip. I was able to get an older T-50 off E-Bay, and it works fine, but it's so tall, it doesn't fit in my sim setup. I'm currently using a 20cm Sahaj extension, so room for the joystick throw is at a premium (every time you plug in the power, it has to calibrate itself by moving through full roll and pitch axis travel, and must not be interrupted). As it stands, this is my main control now, as it is smooth, precise, and allows for realistic trim for helos and fixed wing. I also own a Warthog, BRD Black Stork, 2xGunfighters, Mongoose T-50, FSSB R3, Microhelis EC-145 Cyclic, Komodosim EC-145 Cyclic, and Cougar, if that gives you any idea of what I've tried so far. It's been a long road, and longer search for what feels like the best all-around control (I fly helos for trade, and dabble in fixed-wing for leisure, so when I sim, I fly both). Edit: Not sure why the picture rotated 90 degrees left, but hopefully you get the idea. -
It is true, you’ll lose Target compatibility with the R3. The TUSBA will not be compatible with Target, and the Realsimulator PCB in the R3 is not compatible. The only way to maintain compatibility with both would be to maintain the Cougar stick base as a bridge for the throttle, and order a Warthog stick PCB direct through Thrustmaster customer support to be install in the R3 base. Personally, I have only used the shift function in Target, which is available in DCS on its own, so I’ve never missed Target since ditching it.
