You could go for the A-10C in stead, it has TGP and smart bombs you would also find on a Viper. But no radar nor it's capable of AA combat (it can carry AIM-9s but in no way it's a fighter of course). The F-5 in that regard is an old bird, nothing wrong with that by the way. ;) Regarding Virpil: I have their WarBRD base with stick and MT-50 throttle. Great stuff, built like a tank and all metal, the base is customizable too in terms of spring force and center cams. Bit expensive though, but really worth it! TrackIR is a must on a monitor, but there are much cheaper DIY solutions. Search Input/Output for examples and more info on that. If you really want to be in it, go VR. But, even more expensive because you need a powerful system to run it decent.

Only advice I can give you; get the Hornet in stead of the Tiger. That way you don't have a steep learning curve anymore once the Viper is released into EA. They share a lot of the same weapons and sensors.

Long Standing Bug Fixed! - External Lighting Passing Through Cockpit!
dawgie79 replied to Fubarbrickdust's topic in DCS 2.9
Just flew the Huey a bit. Noticed something different, couldn't point my finger at it. It's this. Nice! And the Huey is already nice, one of my favourites actually. A way to relax if you fly it in VR. :) -
There is a law, it's called Moore's law. Essentially they have reached the near limits of CPU-design, in terms of scaling in combination with heat production and power consumption, that's why you see more cores in stead of higher clock speeds (which isn't physically possible anymore if I remember correctly). Excessive heat means faster degradation, which means lower lifespan, which means higher cost, less efficiency, etc etc etc.

Any change we'll see deck lighting added to CVN Module?

Yeah, the WarBRD is not designed for use with an extension. Especially not a 100cm one.

On the deck after the landing, first put flaps to AUTO, then back to FULL. Pitch up effect wil be gone then.

Huey in VR is one of the best VR experiences in my opinion. Given that one can fly it properly. :joystick: Also: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3302487/ :D

Oki, much appreciated. In any case I will be getting it. Keep up the great work.

My guess is the settings mostly work on your GPU, while the battlefield (amount of units, how many AI, how many instructions, etc) works on your CPU (& RAM), this is basically just calculating (CPU) while the former is rendering (GPU). At least, that's what my own logic tells me. ;)

Upgraded to i9 9900K from i7 8700K and can see no difference in VR
dawgie79 replied to imacken's topic in Virtual Reality
Of course not, I'm sorry. It's DCS itself, no matter what hardware you throw at it in this point in time. Until ED optimizes their EDGE engine, or introduce Vulkan or something, things won't likely change anytime soon. Sure, with the hardware you have you may well be getting a few more FPS than I'm getting (i7 8700 non-K GTX1080 non-OC), but I bet it won't be that much which justifies (with all due respect of course for your personal choices :) ) the enormous amount in price your hardware costs over mine. In the meantime my recommendation is focussing on optimizing your system, i.e. Windows and it's services, the background apps, startup apps, and so on. -

It's because hardware only does so much. Hardware, OS, software, all need to be in harmony to get the maximum out of your system. The problem isn't hardware, it's because DCS isn't optimally optimized. Only thing you can do is make sure your system is configured optimally. I've explained a few times already on these forums: hardware is approx. 33%, OS optimization is approx. 33%, resource management on your system is approx. 33%. What's left is that you/we are dependent on what the developers do. Paying attention to only one of these won't give you more performance. -
Was wondering Hollywood; I read you're already working on/aware of the upcoming Nimitz carrier module. Will that be a seperate DLC like AIRIO, or will it be incorporated in the existing Vaicom Pro library?

Ability to copy co-ordinates to the kneeboard

Best DCS wishlist request I've read in a while. +1! :) -
After reading this thread alot, I just reserved an Index. Easy since there's no obligation and expected availability is 30th of september. :) It was a careful consideration, choose the Index since I like to use VR during the night so tracking won't be an issue with the Lighthouses. Can't wait. After the Rift this will be a nice upgrade. Just hoping my GTX1080 will do the trick (I think it will considering my system is used solely for VR and I get phenomenal performance if I compare mine with some of the posts on the Eagle forum with better GPUs. No additional apps other than the absolute necessary ones, and really optimized and tuned Windows 10 for performance). And otherwise, oh well. ;)

Well. I'm the odd one out I guess. First of all; anything above 2600Mhz for your memory is useless when using Intel CPU's. If you're using AMD, then go for memory as fast as possible, AMD really profits from fast memory, Intel doesn't really. Second. I wouldn't opt for a 2080Ti. For that price it's not up to par. The main feature of the RTX series was not performance improvements, but rather raytracing supported hardware. In the mean time there are already options/drivers to use raytracing via software, so that is also obsolete. Last, main thing for performance is how you configure your OS installation. Which apps do you run in the background? How are your resources spread across your system? Tweak (turn off some of) the services that run in Windows out of the box. The performance of a system is a delicate dance between hardware and software. simply buying the fastest (most expensive) hardware won't guarantee your system will be fast as well. Like I said; probably I'm the odd one out. ;) edit: I see I'm too late with my response. Congrats and have fun! :)

This thread is great to read, puts a smile to my face. We need more converts so we can keep on reading people's awe. :joystick: Makes you wanna fly too. Which is what I'm gonna do now. :D

I know. Consider it additional information then. :)

Or you can change the altitude warning through HSI - Data - A/C - Alt warnings (BAlt + RAlt). Default BAlt is 5000. Or, turn off Terrain Avoidance Warning System (TAWS). Same place as the Alt warnings if I recall correctly.

Right-click My Computer -> Computer Management/Manage -> Services & Applications -> Services -> Oculus VR Runtime service, turn that one to Off and on Manual. When Oculus is needed just turn it on. For easy of use you can create a shortcut directly to services.msc. Don't give the Oculus App admin privileges, like others have stated, as you don't want to give apps more permissions than needed, because of security reasons.
-
Just stop the Oculus VR Runtime service the normal way, and put it on manual, using services.msc (right-click My Computer -> Computer Management/Manage -> Services & Applications -> Services).

Nice! Coincidentally I posted the French Navy Chill in the music thread last week. This was a nice find, thanks! :)
