  1. Doesn't the "clear category" button already accomplish that?
  2. I have never had a problem stopping by the end of the runway using full back stick and airbrakes for maximum drag, then brakes at around 50 - 60 knots. But I couldn't say whether the rollout length is longer than real life.
  3. No idea about the Hornet but I remember reading that the F-117 Nighthawks flew pretty much entirely missions on autopilot, the pilot just armed and consented to weapons release at the appropriate times.
  4. This could happen if True heading is selected in the HSI > Data > AC page, rather than Magnetic.
  5. Never had a problem stopping the Hornet. Airbrakes out on touchdown and stick fully deflected back once under 100 knots for extra stabilator drag. Brakes under about 50 knots.
  6. PTRK/ATRK shouldn't matter, boxing TRIG is what matters.
  7. To add on, if you want to get airspeed back you just need to return to nav mode. To do this, hit the shkval reset button on the Collective.
  8. With the Shkval (targeting camera system) uncaged (active), the HUD changes to a decluttered attack mode. I've never seen airspeed in this mode, I reference the analog gauge on the front console. I just looked through the manual and the pictures in there indicate the airspeed ought to be on the HUD during attack mode, so I don't really know why it isn't.
  9. Sounds like your flaps might still be down? That will slow you down plenty.
  10. 2021 seems optimistic to me, but even so it would technically still be "many years" if it's more than 1 year :P
  11. Wow! Great news! I assume you mean by January 31 2019, and not within a year of the date of your post?
  12. I've heard the L-39 and Kursant campaign is a great general aviation and airmanship trainer. Haven't tried it yet, maybe others can chime in.
  13. Did a similar discovery flight in a Robinson R44 recently. The experience from DCS did help me, although there really is nothing like the real thing. It was thrilling, especially trying to hover (which I did with some stability for a good 10 seconds before I started over correcting too much). For less than $300 I recommend a flight for everybody, it's an amazing experience.

Do you have any data or tests to back this up aside from a feeling?
  15. Flying with FD on and at high speed during combat is a lot more fun than hovering somewhere and sniping stuff. Probably a lot less dangerous, too, as you stay a moving target and only expose yourself briefly on attack runs. I recommend it.
  16. Wagz on a podcast (Fighter Pilot Podcast I think?) mentioned it was on hold, pushed behind the F-16 and Mi-24 at least. Unfortunately we probably won't see the Phantom for many years I think. It's a real shame.
  17. Hmm, if you already have the Dora, the A-8 isn't likely to be a very big difference. That's the reason I haven't picked it up yet. Gorgeous looking though it is. I also haven't bought the MiG-19 yet because I don't feel comfortable buying further Razbam products until the early access Harrier is complete. That said, if you don't have that personal hangup, the MiG looks fun enough to fly.
  18. Do you have Flaming Cliffs 3? It may be closer to what you're looking for. To be honest I haven't looked, but I don't think the F-14 has Game Mode. Do new modules even come with it anymore? That said, the Tomcat really is pretty easy to learn for some instant action dogfights and stuff. Jester takes care of a lot of things for you. You basically just bind the weapon select switch and dogfight radar modes, flip up the master arm, and you're ready to fight.
  19. I think we would need to know more than this. The FCS is cutting the power? Do you mean the engine dies? Do you mean the plane loses speed and stalls? The Hornet will lose speed fairly fast in a high-G turn, so you may just be pulling a bit too much on the stick.
  20. All single player for me. I have limited gaming time, usually 45 minutes at a time, so usually do instant action or single missions. I'm also not very social and don't enjoy multiplayer in most games. Gaming is a solo activity for me unless it's with good friends.
  21. Flying the F-14 is a real joy. Difficult to master, great feel of buffeting and adverse yaw and other things. FAST! Employing weapons is fairly simple and interacting with Jester is a unique way to handle certain things compared to any other jet. You can have him deal with radios, radar, countermeasures, tacan, datalink, all for you so you don't have to know those systems. The Hornet is like flying a computer compared to the Tomcat, but is still very nimble and fun. The FBW means you can pirouette and do some neat tricks at low speed. The real great thing about the Hornet is the wide variety of weapons. Mavericks, JDAMs, JSOWs, AIM-9X with JHMCS, eventually TGP and Harpoons, SLAM-ER, and A-G radar. Employing those systems and weapons is going to be tons of fun and tons to learn. I guess I'd say the Tomcat feels really powerful, has a fun flight model with lots of quirks, and is an air-to-air beast with secondary bomb capability. The help from Jester can make some things like radar management kind of "easy" for the pilot, but that's the point. Online multicrew looks fun but I haven't tried it. Hornet has a more "sterile" FBW flight system, so the joy of flight isn't there quite so much, but it has tons of high tech weaponry and capabilities.
  22. Based on all of the other WW2 modules, I don't think anyone should expect anything more in terms of content. Maybe, eventually, paid campaigns may come, but there have been none at all for axis planes yet as far as I know.
  23. They aren't required to join multiplayer servers but you won't be able to communicate with mosdt people. Simple Radio is what people use the most.
