  1. The radar gimbal is gyro stabilized so it points in the same elevation relative to the plane regardless of maneuvering, to better track targets. This is intended design.
  2. Big +1 from me. I typically only play on my lunch break (45 minutes) and have a young child that makes playing for long periods of time very difficult. Really want to make progress on various campaigns but it's tough.
  3. The skval reset button on the collective returns to nav mode.
  4. I'm sure it's still coming, it's a relatively easy opportunity to make money from more casual players, there's no reason ED would announce it and then stealth cancel it.
  5. I haven't seen evidence that these modes are implemented.
  6. Even with laser guided bombs, the hornet couldn't pick up the laser energy right now without a TPOD of its own. It would still need coordinates or at least a close approximate location to drop the bombs onto.
  7. The way I do it with older aircraft without HUDs is to use the sight picture. Once descending and on-speed, pick a landmark (like the runway edge) and stare at it in relation to your cockpit. If it moves up, you're descending too quickly and need to add power. If it moves down, you're descending too shallow and need to cut some power. Ideally it shouldn't move at all, just get larger and larger. I didn't learn this until I learned proper landing in the Huey but it's really useful all the time.
  8. It's the same crew chief voice as all the rest of DCS, but yes, I believe it is Bunyap.
  9. Would it be worth it to just get a VPC WarBRD base and this stick if one doesn't have the Warthog?
  10. Interesting question. I have no input other than speculation, but I imagine back in those days they would talk a pilot visually onto the target using landmarks, i.e. "east side of the river". Plus smoke markers. For an AI FAC in a mission editor, I would set them up to smoke a target (maybe laser depending on the era you're going for) then insert some dialog visually describing where the target is in relation to land features, buildings, and friendlies.
  11. Easy solution: Don't pre-purchase until a date is given. The discount will still be available up until release day pretty much so there's absolutely nothing lost by doing that.
  12. At close range I would be using your Mav seeker itself to find targets of opportunity.
  13. Heartily disagree. I love both, but the old one has the superior main theme score as well as the star warsy external special effects aesthetics (lasers!) and ship designs.
  14. Iceman is very basic right now and this is definitely not within his capability. I really hope a radar altitude hold mode is created for him eventually though!
  15. I'm sorry but what are you even taking about? The flight model is screwed up based on what? I've been able to beat pretty much every type of AI opponent, maybe it is just your tactics that need work? Haven't noticed any changes since release either. Jester is the first AI crewmember in DCS. It's a pretty big achievement considering the level of detail and realism he brings. He isn't perfect or as good as a human RIO and never will be, but he is also early access. And please point me to where HB has guaranteed they will release an update every 2 weeks on schedule? Maybe they have something longer-term they're working on that can't be shown off in a 2 week span? Development is difficult and it strikes me as rather entitled to expect so much from a brand new early access product.
  16. If anyone still has trouble setting up virtual toe brakes, use Joystick Gremlin and Vjoy, it was very simple to split the axis into two virtual axis for binding in DCS with a modifier.
  17. Is the Maverick warmed up properly and says RDY on the stores page?
  18. Finally getting a handle on handling this bird on the ground and on takeoff. Reading so many posts in this massive thread did help but I think some hurt, too :P I'd like to share what worked best for me and what didn't. Taxi: The first big revelation is that the tailwheel locks as it passes through center (with stick held aft). I had so many problems swinging left and right wildly with the toebrakes trying to make it go straight until I figured out getting it mostly straight, locking the tailwheel, then waggling left and right until the tailwheel passed through center. THEN it locked. I taxi now mostly with the tailwheel locked, only unlocking to make large turns. Takeoff: I've seen so many different methods on this thread. Lock the tailwheel; don't lock the tailwheel; rudder; toe brakes. First off, taking off with unlocked tailwheel (and full power from brakes) was disastrous for me. I tried "dancing" on the pedals as suggested, and I felt like I kept the plane mostly straight, but when it lifted up it flipped upside down on me! The second time I tried it, I went right onto the grass with too little rudder authority to fix things at 70 kph or more, and crashed. here's what does work: Align the plane straight down the runway slowly and gently, lock the tailwheel, then brake to a stop. Run up to max power and let go of the brakes, keeping the stick full aft and tailwheel locked. Almost immediately I feel I have some rudder authority for small lineup corrections if needed. Right rudder is most often needed. At 100kph, bring the stick back to center. At 150 - 170, the plane starts to get light on its own, and also begins rolling left. So put in right stick to counter that. By 200kph, the plane takes off on its own. That's it. Actually fairly easy once I knew what to expect and when. Feels consistent and safe. LOCK THE TAIL WHEEL!
  19. I used some JDAMs on a quick mission using TOO mode, and edited waypoints to be directly over the targets I wanted to hit. I only used the coordinates and elevation I got from the F10 map input directly into the UFC. As long as I didn't release at max range or anything I got bang-on direct hits. Seems good to me.
  20. THANK YOU! You saved my stick. I opened it up and moved some wires around that might get squeezed by the base being closed up, and it's back and working again.
  21. The F-5 can carry a decent bomb or rocket load, but compared to anything but WW2 planes and the A-4, it's very manual and very basic. Personally I don't enjoy it a ton, you have to be very exact or your bombs will not land on target.
  22. The radar is good for using the quick acquisition modes like MSL or GUN. Aside from that, it's a poor tool.
  23. Just grabbed the FW-190 as my second Warbird after the Mustang. She is a lot to handle! The ground handling is wild, and in the air she has no rudder trim! Should be fun to learn.
  24. It all started because I noticed a slight jittery left input on the x-axis while centered. I took the base apart to tighten contacts, and I really barely touched anything inside. When I reassembled the base, and plug it into my PC, I get no led lights and windows says it is an unrecognized device. Seems like maybe a problem with the circuit board or the usb connector? But it all seems tight and nothing is visibly disconnected when I checked it again. I’ve had the stick almost 2 years. Can anyone help?
  25. Not true. The auto-throttle (ATC) is not functional yet for landing configuration. Once gear is down right now the plane's flight control system automatically changes trim laws: the plane stays automatically in trim at its current AOA. Trim changes the set AOA. If auto-throttle becomes functional in the future it will maintain on-speed throttle for you if you change the pitch on the stick, allowing you to change the glideslope using pitch instead of throttle.
