A few ways to deal with a plane flying 90 degrees: Switch to Pulse mode (PSTT - Jester should do this automatically most times), this works at shorter ranges but not super long range shots I think. Or: Put the bandit above you in altitude such that the radar antenna is looking over +3 degrees. This ought to automatically disable the notch filter. See http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/general.html#pulse-doppler-mode

If AWACS tells you there's a bandit, 40 miles, 20,000 ft, hot: Turn the nose to point directly at the bandit's bearing. Tell Jester to scan higher or lower using the Jester menu. Confirm the correct scan volume by mirroring the TID onto the pilot's display (switches next to the HUD master mode switches, right side under the arresting hook). If the bandit is still not showing up, I personally hop in the back seat and do it myself. Pulse Doppler search, Pulse search (if not super long range). Narrow the search field as much as possible by adjusting bars and azimuth scan zone. Once in the front seat, with targets showing up on the TID in TWS mode, you can fire Phoenixes as soon as they're in range (flashing symbols). Or, tell jester to STT lock a bandit and attack that way. Don't forget to turn on the master arm and MSL PREP switches!

If the targets show up on the TID (repeat it on the bottom pilot display), they should have numbers next to them. That means the radar is in TWS auto mode and you can simply fire the Phoenixes and they will automatically cycle through each target and track them. Nothing more you need to do. Note that blinking target icons means they are in a good range to fire.

I'm finding the tomcat exponentially more difficult. The only successful traps I've made have been 4 or 1 wires and end up with me almost sliding off the edge of the deck one way or another. It's ugly! I think line-up is the most difficult part for me, any corrections I make end up with yawing oscillations and wing rock that turns pear shaped very quickly.
-
I'm learning with the HUD off and I'm definitely getting used to it, I find it pretty easy now to keep the movements smooth by watching the horizon and glancing at instruments. But I'm having a hell of a time lining up into the groove. Line up corrections end up with me wobbling back and forth and I always end up way too high or low. This is gunna take a lot of practice!

I've got an older i5 but all other specs are the same including GPU and I don't have any stutters unless it's a very busy mission. You should be able to get it smoother if you turn a few settings to medium or so.

Wait....seriously!!!???!!! The HUD doesn't show airspeed????

Try using the declutter switch next to HUD mode switches. -
There are already threads about this. Not a huge deal to me personally as the Tomcat, more than any other module bar the Viggen, really lets you hear and feel when the afterburner lights.

Regarding the airspeed gauge, how come the whole thing rotates (e.g. when slowing down to landing speeds)? When and why? I also notice the needle 'bugs' you can set on the outsides move too but seem to get misaligned with the numbers? What's going on there? -
I have had issues with the switch and cover not closing on clicks. Changing my view angle using trackIR actually fixes it for me. Adjusting to look at the switch from another angle and clicking lets me interact with it again.

An early access product does not yet have every feature that the final product will! I demand my money back!

I'm surprised just how jittery even the VVI is. It's one instrument that I find really helpful in the Sim. Guess I'll just turn off the HUD completely for max realism...
-
Is there a good reason not to set power and trim to level on-speed flight, then using DLC alone to adjust glideslope? Seems like this would be possible.
-
The mission is bugged, the next hotfix is going to disable it temporarily. Don't bother trying it.
-
I turned off the HUD and find it a bit easier. I can trim to level flight and on-speed, but as soon as I need to sink, or bank, anything that requires me to change my throttle, it seems like I need to re-trim and I am no longer on-speed. This makes sense to me since it has no FBW trimming to constant AOA, but I wanted to ask if people are re-trimming all the way to touchdown, or are they just using stick once it's trimmed initially? Seems like my level flight trim is not the same as my final glideslope trim.

Definitely longer load times for me. Once the mission loads up (only Singleplayer, all missions) I get the briefing screen popup, and a black screen behind it, for a while, at least 20 - 30 seconds (I don't get that with any other module), before I have a cockpit loaded in. I'm guessing texture related? I deleted metashaders and metashaders2 and didn't seem to fix this specific issue. Specs: i5-2400 3.1Ghz | 16 GB DDR3-1333 RAM (2x4 + 1x 8 | EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC | Windows 7 Pro | DCS is installed on a dedicated SSD, Windows and all other files are on an HDD.

I went ahead and threw them more money. Meteor gained a new fan out of me. I haven't heard a song in their whole discography I don't love. Great PR move to do this soundtrack!

Yes, you need to buy two licenses for you both to play together. If she is in the backseat, you won't have Jester, so many features like Navigation or Radar won't be operated. But if you want to just joyride I guess that won't be a big deal?

On the real jet the data cartridge most likely saves all of these settings. Also keep in mind, your car was built in the last 5 or 10 years. These jets are like 30 years old.

Radio communication problems when the plane is flying
kengou replied to yeti's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Alternatively I believe alt+\ brings up the menu in the air, although just using \ no longer works. No idea why they did it that way. But for maximum realism I recommend binding the comm HOTAS keys on the relevant aircraft instead. -
The assymetric wing roll has bugged me since release. Dropping a MK83 for example can make the plane roll steeply and nearly uncontrollably. And even when you trim it to level flight, pulling any G's will induce a roll again. I just can't imagine this is the case in the real thing and I've never experienced a stores-induced roll this badly even in F-16 sims when launching the heavy HARM (which does induce a roll, but it's very controllable and trimmable).

Thank you for the response Cobra. It sounds like March is where I should set expectations, then. I'm sure it will be worth it.

Heatblur can release this whenever they feel it's ready within the timeline they've laid out, of course. But I'm sure they understand if some people are disappointed when Heatblur said they really hoped to have it ready by the end of 2018, and were still repeating that hope as close as a month beforehand. And I understood that was a hope and not a promise and I understood when that date slipped. But it certainly made me think they were at least very close. And they released copies to Youtubers a few weeks ago. So I guess I'm saying, they've given every indication they're very close to release and it is very imminent. If they decide to push it back to March, while totally within their declared window, I'd be pretty surprised and disappointed. If it was close enough in December for them to think release was imminent, what's up with an additional 3 months of time?

Personally I want a Draken. But I'd be happy with an A-6 too.
