  1. You are correct. The "gear, lens set" call is for that. They all fly the same degree of glideslope depending on the weather and other factors. I had to ask an old IC buddy. I hope we get this in DCS someday.
  2. Bro, if you can AAR in the Tomcat, you definitely can in the Hornet. I just got the hang in the F-14 a few months ago. That's the most challenging aircraft for me, outside of the F-16 IRT AAR. Rock on my friend!
  3. Bro, I am all for options. A man has to have options in life. But the initial request of "make it easy so that I feel better" is a defeated attitude to have. I thought the thrill of DCS was the realism. It certainly brought me here! I would have even pitched ED making a training mission that talks you through it. But the easy street attitude is just something that makes you wonder why people start in the first place. It's like getting signed to an NFL team with no experience and then asking the Coach and other players to not tackle or hit you because you can't take it! It's supposed to be difficult! The OP has to practice is my point. ED is free to add cheats or whatever. And the OP has the right to use them. That's cool. It's just amazing to me how some guys want to throw in the towel.
  4. Correct, maybe. In the Tower, one of the calls when an aircraft is about to trap is, "Gear"(weight set on arresting gear), "Lens" (IFLOLS) "set Rhino" or Hornet, etc. Now, I know that the Lens is set for a certain glideslope but what I do not know for certain is if it is for a certain aircraft. I would guess no because I've watched FCLP's at an airfield and different aircraft all used the same lens. Just my 2 cents.
  5. +1 I'm old enough to say, not too long ago we longed for sims to reach this point. Realistic start ups and AAR and carrier landings. I played the After Burner game as a kid and others. The aforementioned was all automatic. Now that we can mostly simulate that reality, there are guys that want to take easy street. Yes, AAR can be frustrating, but the reward is great when you get it right! This no knock on anyone. It just blows the mind that people don't know how fortunate we are now! Practice and have fun with the difficulty dude! Isn't that what you paid for? Otherwise, we'd use that "other" arcade one!
  6. The fact that you took it as working against is laughable dude. Email it to your buddy or whomever so that you can play with each other. You make it harder than what it is but oh well. But stop making 4-5 different threads about it. It's akin to whining. The others in this post told you the same thing I did to help you. It's not that hard! I have had the Thunderbirds livery for months, the entire squadron! Not sure why you assumed I don't want it. Photoshop cost little dude!
  7. I Think you missed the point of what I said. The paint you are asking for already exist, in more ways than one!. Wait around all you like, I'm just advising you. It is only a must for you or a small minority of people. That does not make it a priority bro! The user files has a plethora of skins, from dreadfully fictional to picture perfect real life ones. That's why the User files exist! The same 3-4 post about this is leaning towards insanity. You could also download Photoshop and go to work!
  8. There's like 4-5 Thunderbirds paint sets in the user files section and somehow it's high priority? More important than the systems for the module? I've been flying with that paint for almost a year and you guys are waiting? The best course of action is to D/L and send to whomever you want to see it. Come on now!
  9. When you say many, be careful. Seems there is a very small minority of users that have an issue. Not a fan of changing things for the minority dude! If it were easy, it would just be the way. As someone mentioned above, you should practice. Can you provide a video of what you are doing? That would help. The guys that complain about AAR usually are monkey fisting the thing to death. Either that or do not understand form flying. Practice makes perfect, same as football bro! Or as @Wolf359 said, check unlimited fuel. Problem solved!
  10. The Cutting Edge right? That was one of my first books too! Great book!
  11. 5 embarked. 2-3 on deck.
  12. In the Air Wings I served with, there were only 4-5 Prowlers onboard at any given time. On deck 2-3, give or take what's airborne!
  13. You try changing your gamma settings? I'm seeing a ball (completely ignoring the overlay) and it is good, in the Hornet and Tomcat. I will say that the IFLOLS probably should be brighter than the LRLS light. I can see that from space. Maybe you need to use the overlay. I don't know what kind of set up you have. I have a pretty good computer working on a curved monitor. This may also help you until you get the hang of it: Tune your ILS and get it up on the HUD. That way, as you roll out, you get an idea of where you should be. Right now, it looks like you are doing it the cowboy way. Fly the numbers, fly the ball! The start of your approach is very important! IMHO, turn off that controls overlay. Just have fun with the thing and experiment and try to "feel" what it might feel like. Damn, I missed that! Oh yeah, that's a no-no! Good call brother!
  14. Also looks like you are very long in the groove and lined up left. The mechanics of your approach turn are very important. Where did you start your turn? Make sure it's abeam the LSO platform. Pull up your TACAN on the HUD so that you have some SA of where you are. Swap your EW page with your HSI. That will help! And yeah, like @TonyGsaid, you are well below glide path!
  15. Unfortunately, this is where I have to ask that myself. From my vantage point on the Flight Deck, we never seen/saw the LRLS. The same for the drop lights. In the Tower, the Air Boss controls the lighting. He has an entire crew to help him set the lights. When the launch is complete, the Boss orders the lights aft lowered and the Landing area and lens lights come on. Also, the Beacons are already on but stay green for recovery. I assume the drop lights and LRLS come on at that same time. Kind of longwinded but it's all coming back to me as I type. Lol
  16. The Pilots will see the ship turn often. We would have all the aircraft loaded on cats and the ship will be coming out of a turn into the wind. Once that happens, we get a green deck on the bow and waist (depending factors). So the Pilots are sitting there waiting. It is very dynamic. The guys in holding can see us turn and shoot the cycle. When that is complete, particularly on the waist, that's when they come down. Once the last aircraft recovers, the ship will turn so, the pilots will see and feel that as they taxi around on deck. If the sea state is bad enough, it is really sporty trying to park them. I hate (not really) that in DCS, the AI land and go to the elevator. IRL, we send them to the bow for shutdown and the fighter line or deck edge if available. And to the fantail as well. If they are not a "go" bird, we move them out of the way. There is a lot of bird swapping on deck after a recovery as you can imagine. Looking at this image, maybe you have too many objects at sea. That would put you in a restricted maneuvering situation and that's not good for flight ops.
  17. The ship will make her own wind if there is not enough available. I know that there is a cross wind component but I do not have that data and I was not a Shooter. And different aircraft have different crosswind limitations. And from different catapults if I remember correctly. From my perspective, in the Gulf our cycles depended on aircraft launched. We were always turning. The Gulf felt bigger than what it is, from a flight deck personnel perspective. I'm sure in DCS, you have enough space to operate. You would have to do the math on it. What waypoints for your CVBG. Waypoints for your SC and where the wind is for launch and recovery while worrying about running into the ground or other units. I hope that helps. Feel free to ask anything!
  18. Looks great bro! You were already there. I hope you can solve the cyclic ops problem. IRL, the ship has a PIM (Position of intended movement) and while us lowly hard charging flight deck warriors don't know where that is (and don't really care), we can only assume. The idea behind PIM is that it's a way to track where the ship should be at any given time. The longer a ship stays turned into the wind, the longer it is off PIM. The launch/recovery cycles are done with the ship into the wind. After recovery complete, the ship would turn back to PIM, sometimes! Wash, rinse, repeat! Your cycles just depends on how many A/C you want to shoot and catch each time. I'm Looking forward to your campaign. Glad I could help!
  19. Cool. Just an observation, your Crash crane is in the wrong space. It should be on the Island side of the SPN-46 tower and your E-2 where the crane is. That's your AFT Hummer hole.
  20. It is an amazing plane to fly. I'm not taking anything away from the Tomcat at all. But the SC and the Tomcat are not on the same page so to speak. The LSO will call you slow even when you are fast, the Lens is set for a Hornet, not a Tomcat. And the Flight Deck Directors are also giving you Hornet signals. IMHO, you should get the Tomcat if you really want to. She's my #1. The feeling is much more immersive to me in the F-14. It's just something about her.
  21. Oh yes indeed!
  22. I hate complaining but this whole F-14 not being calibrated to the IFLOLs is getting old. Crosschecking feels like a battle! I love the F-14 and the SC but man, this along with the IFLOLS overlay are just off putting. I hope that there is a fix soon!
  23. +1
  24. Nice!!!
  25. One other thing. With Cyclic ops, the ship turns into the wind for launch and recovery operations. Once the recovery is complete, the ship turns back to PIM (Position of intended movement) after catching the Helos. Just before launch, she will turn back into the wind for the next launch/recovery cycle. Wash, rinse, repeat! I wonder if DCS can handle all of it to be honest!
