When it's initiated (by anyone that spots a problem i.e. the shooters or final checkers), the deck crew will cross their arms overhead: 1.Shuttle goes aft, launch bar pops up. 2.When confirmed a suspend or hangfire, the shooter or topside petty officer will give the "throttle back signal to the pilot. 3.The pilot throttles back on upon direction from the shooter or TSPO. The JBD goes down. 4.The shuttle goes home (the forward part of the CAT) 5.The aircraft is buffered aft to that the holdback bar can be released so that the green shirt can remove the bar. He or she holds it up to the pilot for confirmation. 6.The aircraft is then either sent to another CAT or sidelined (put out of the way for troubleshooting). There are cases when you get a suspend and the shooter will try to initiate it again. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. That's where #6 takes effect. It is all very complex and dynamic. The winds across the deck, final checks and mismatched settings all play a part. I may have missed something as it's been a couple of years since I retired but that's basically it! I hope I answered your question well!

Adding more liveries/skins/squadrons to the Hornet

Now you're talking! If only we could change the font. But I wont hold my breath. The Dynamic fonts as they are right now just make me cringe. -
Adding more liveries/skins/squadrons to the Hornet
Jackjack171 replied to Moorhuhn's topic in Wish List
Yeah, it's a mess, I agree. I'd like to get a complete CVW-5 for 2 era's but that's just a dream I guess. Not to mention, we have only an E-2D that is totally out of line with any of the era's... -

If that is the case, ED (or any dev) maybe should throw the guys that have made liveries a bone and get their liveries into the game. Or fix whatever it is that does not allow a livery to show up in MP. Have we addressed this? I agree but disagree as well. IMO I don't really think it's ED's responsibility as they have already delivered a kick ass product. I say let them handle the big, important things like weapons, FM and such. I think that the community has excellent liveries, more better than the stock ones. And for me at least, the Dynamic Modex numbers look horrible. It looks like a pencil drew it and is never consistent with RW modex numbers. And the weathering by the users is always better! As we have seen, the Devs have PLENTY on their plates and the way people complain about this or that, liveries are a very small thing! I do agree about the Air Wing thing. Having served on CV/CVN's, seeing these Frankenstein Air Wings is awful, but it is what it is until it is fixed! -
That would be nice to have. The Flight deck crew would give the suspend signal and then unhook you, though the actual procedure is a bit more. It maybe too complex for ED to model. I still remember the steps!

Now that's funny! I had a VF-32 patch that I got from an airshow when I was a kid (I'm sowing my age here) it had the Glove Vanes extended. It always looked odd to me as opposed to the later ones.

Naw, been here a while actually. The Tomcat and Hornet got me into DCS. I just find things funny and point them out no matter how many times I see it. It's good for a laugh!

Adding more liveries/skins/squadrons to the Hornet
Jackjack171 replied to Moorhuhn's topic in Wish List
Have you visited the User Files section at all? Also, it has never been the developers that bring out all the liveries, it's the users like you and me and others. Well, not me! But you get my drift. I have every single livery you mentioned above and all I did was go to the user files section and type in search. Here you go: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/ -
Wow! This discussion says a lot about the folks that ignore an SME. I'm not so sure what all the hype about glove vanes is, especially if the SME says that they are pointless. It's funny what people fight for!
-
If the SME's and HB have decried that the glove vanes are useless, I think we should leave it be so that they may focus on more important things! They've just delivered a major update...let's give them a break and some credit!

It would be nice to see the Waist Catapult #3 shuttle cover, AKA "Fast Eddie" implemented. It's used to protect the shuttle and aircraft tires during the recovery and removed during launches (obviously). The shuttles can and will pop a tire when contacted (I've seen it done on the bow) Just another level of immersion.

Patch Nov 18th - F-14A release - Feedback Thread
Jackjack171 replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Not really worried about skins at all. This community has a plethora of skins. Always has and always will! It is almost laughable that this is a concern (there are at least 2 other threads talking about liveries) but oh well! The Jester inconsistencies are really what I would like worked on. I'd like Jester to designate targets and back me up way more than he does. Still looking forward to swapping out the funky bright HGU-33 helmets with the HGU-55 helmets and the Forrestal. The -A feels slightly different in the pattern but not by much. It's just me worried about the stalls! Oh and the "Hornet Ball" call...Lol. But I'm sure it will be corrected. Overall, I'm happy with it! -

Pretty satisfied with the model. Patiently waiting for the fixes. Thank you HB, awesome job again! -
This is true. No one rides the elevator without expressed permission. There's dangers associated with Elevator operations. And aircraft that land do not always take a ride to the hangar bay unless it is in need for major maintenance. Arming and very minor maintenance happen on the flight deck. And fitting an Elevator run in with a cycle is more complex than people think. Most aircraft swaps (good aircraft, bad aircraft) happen at night, after Flight Quarters have been secured. So the entire notion of working elevators is kind of useless! It really only makes sense if you turn DCS into a ship simulator.
-
IRL, "down" (maintenance needy) aircraft are only kept in the hangar bay. All of your "up" jets are already on the flight deck. Most of the swapping of jets happens at night, after flight quarters are secured. The flights are laid out in events. The first event goes and comes back as the third event is launching. The aircraft are re-armed and refueled and another crew takes it up for another event. There is some overlap and it is very complex. That's why the thought of working elevators makes no sense. It would be a waste of resources and simply just corny.

Why Heatblur should do the F-111 next!
Jackjack171 replied to Lurker's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I remember that game. Also, the "Flight of the Intruder" game. Between the A-7, the A-6 and the F-111 accompanied by the Forrestal class carriers and Marianas map; it will be a great time in DCS. -

We definitely need a Vietnam map someday! The Caucasus map being used as such is an immersion killer, for me anyway! -

Super Carrier / Deck Crew "launch-landing logic"
Jackjack171 replied to Niehorst's topic in Bugs and Problems
Oh yes indeed! I'd love to hear other flights check in to marshal and such. -
Do you delete the entire fxo/metashaders folder, or just the contents?
-
Just don't use it (Stennis). Problem solved!
