Will we ever get realistic physics for carrier landings?
Jackjack171 replied to obious's topic in Wish List
I agree. I still can't put my finger on what's missing. Gear compression and wire physics? Something is missing though! -
Is this an argument for the sake of the argument? I mean, are these rockets really that big of a deal? I like them on the A-10 but it doesn't seem like the kind of thing to get worked up over. Especially if ED already said it's a no-go, I'm cool with that decision! Personally, I'm waiting on the HTS and the other items on the current menu to finish out what we already have.

For me, I ran through the tutorial twice and then there's the checklist here:F-14A/B Quick Checklist. (digitalcombatsimulator.com) I put it on my Kindle and it is useful. As @Dannyvandelft mentioned, you'll remember it!

Heatblur Simulations Livery Challenge
Jackjack171 replied to IronMike's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I finished that book also. Great read indeed! You have good taste brother! Those stories, missions and the way the the book is written, really makes you feel like you were there. And thanks for the Aces livery, I use it frequently! -
It was Clubleaf!

Why were there NO HiViz liveries for the NAVY created
Jackjack171 replied to CanopyJettison's topic in Wish List
I'm not against anything bro. I'm just informing you. Since you've been here a year, you should have already seen this pattern. It's funny you took it that I was against something! Anyway, I have every livery for the Hornet and Tomcat except those fictional ones and have never had an issue with them. You keep asking the devs for more and it's already at your fingertips. It takes 5 seconds to download and a minute more to install a livery. Don't make things hard on yourself. -
You had me at gun decking. Haven't heard that in a while!

I'm not sure how long you've been into DCS but ED has never given that many livery options to begin with. The questions that you are asking are kind of pointless. The community has always produced better and more liveries than the devs. To be frank, the amount of work that they (devs) have, liveries should be the least of their concerns. Let the devs handle the big parts. But that's just me! -
Lol. True. DCS is after all a game. I try to fly IAW NATOPS and what I know from being on active duty. When I worked on the Flight Deck, I'd never seen a flaps up takeoff. Nor a landing for that matter. Seen a lot of single engine landings! Anyway, here's some from my NATOPS stash: F-14 7.4.8.1 Maneuvering Flaps Takeoff Maneuvering flaps provide improved takeoff perfor mance when compared to the flaps−up configuration and eliminate the pitching moment associated with main flap and slat retraction after takeoff. Slow−speed handling character istics are superior to the flaps−up configuration. Additionally, possible automatic maneuvering flap/slat extension during rotation/transition to flight can be avoided by extending ma neuvering flaps before takeoff. CV NATOPS (old) NAVAIR 00-80T-105 2. Ensure the aircraft is properly configured for flight, paying particular attention to flap/slat setting, open panels, safety pins, wing locks, and stabilator position. The last part is for the A/C Director (me) and all involved in the launch. If the A/C is not configured correctly, we suspend the launch. In DCS, we have none of that though (yet). The catapult in DCS will launch you regardless of your weight and config and no one is there to tell you to stop. And let's not forget, there's the wind over deck and CAT steam pressure to consider Lol. Found this for you mate: F-14 NATOPS 8.7.6 Catapult Launch On turnup signal from the catapult officer ensure throttles in MIL and check all instruments. When ready for launch, place external light master switch ON (bright and steady). After launch, establish an 8° to 10 pitch attitude, cross−checking instruments to ensure a positive rate of climb. Retract the landing gear. An altitude of 500 feet is considered to be minimum altitude for retraction of flaps. 7.4.8.1 Maneuvering Flaps Takeoff Maneuvering flaps provide improved takeoff perfor mance when compared to the flaps−up configuration and eliminate the pitching moment associated with main flap and slat retraction after takeoff. Slow−speed handling character istics are superior to the flaps−up configuration. Additionally, possible automatic maneuvering flap/slat extension during rotation/transition to flight can be avoided by extending ma neuvering flaps before takeoff. F-14B/D 7.4.7.1 Afterburner Takeoff Afterburner takeoffs are limited to single−engine, mini mum afterburner takeoffs, waveoffs, bolters, or catapult launches. Dual−engine afterburner and single−engine maxi mum afterburner takeoffs, waveoffs, bolters, or catapult launches are prohibited. Refer to Chapters 4 and 11. Hope this helps!

Really? That's new. Where did you read this from?
-
Not an SME. I have the Thrustmaster pedals and only us a smidgen of pedal whenever flying the Tomcat.
-
The -A launches just fine from the carrier without AB! Mil power works! Since there is really no adjustment done on the Catapult side (weight, wind, steam) you could launch it flaps up and mil power only. I tried the heaviest load I could and the result was the same. She will rotate regardless. And you should be at full flaps for takeoff from the ship and not maneuver flaps unless, you don't care about realism and procedures!

Come out of burner a lot sooner than you may have been before. Like after your clearing turn while you raise your flaps.

DCS: F/A-18C Features Roadmap for Early Access
Jackjack171 replied to Kate Perederko's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
There's way too much for ED to include all of that in the sim my friend. I'm not sure why people have this new idea that ED will do all of these liveries when they have never. Don't hold your breath! Oh well, there's the resource for you. -

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
Jackjack171 replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thank you for the reply. I figure it will take some time to learn this process. It's a good thing that I have nothing but that! I have your -102 and -41 livery packs. They rock! -
F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
Jackjack171 replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Forgive me for hijacking the thread but all this talk about painting has got me going. How do I get started painting? Where do you guys get the stencils and which program is better, GIMP or Photoshop? Are there any other programs that I need? -
Yeah, but being a retired Navy guy, to us it's all the same! The Nimitz class is just that, but I get why they got to calling it a sub-class. The Reagan and Bush are classified as Nimitz class (another sub-class) but are different in many ways (ex. 3 arresting gear wires instead of 4, island super structure). The GW, Truman and Nimitz ( all of which I served on) are similar on the outside, mostly! If you don't know what to look for, it really doesn't matter! In DCS, you just change hull numbers!
-
Yes, you are correct. The Reagan and the Bush are different. It's the last of the Nimitz class moving into the Ford class with an entirely new deck config. I'm a 68-75 sailor. The Nimitz class that we have in DCS will more than likely be the vanilla Nimitz class. It would be nice to have the latter in class but I won't hold my breath. Still waiting on the Forrestal class!
-
Very well said! I think that for now, we can only look the part! I have your -136 livery. Outstanding work!

reported F-14 Supercarrier compatibility
Jackjack171 replied to Reflected's topic in Bugs and Problems
Same here. -
Correct! It is frustrating that nothing really lines up but is kind of flexible. Hate to be that guy but it was 2002 for the first Super Hornet Deployment. VFA-115 and the Lincoln with CAG 14. I like to focus on a time without Super Hornets in DCS. Let's not forget, we have an E-2D that was not operational back in 2005, so it's all over the place. Can't wait until the Forrestal comes online. Personally, I prefer old school Naval Aviation.
