  1. Looks like you were in just as I was getting started. I joined in 1997. Around 2008-2011, we stopped giving the launch bar up signal after taking tension as NAVAIR directed it wasn't needed anymore. Something about it being a holdover from the old days. Anyway, ED got it right using the old way with the hornet, mostly. The Tomcat needs a proper Kneel signal for the launch bar but hey...I'm happy I don't have to stand up for hours upon hours anymore. It was awesome for a time but, I can have Flight ops in the comfort of home, and still take a warm shower lol. I spent an entire day doing "Flight Deck Certification". Hated it back then but miss it now, sort of... Still have my CV NATOPS, this is like a flashback!
  2. That's the thing. DCS seems to as of late, turned into Ace Combat: The Upgrade! I do believe people should have options, but...
  3. When the "fixed winged recovery complete" call came on at night after final, final; I remember the lights changed sometimes. You remember "deceptive lighting"? Especially in the Gulf!
  4. Really? I was a Flight deck Chief. The lights in the video are actually like that at night. There are variations depending on weather conditions/illumination, but that's it.
  5. This is the funniest community I have ever seen. Half want realism, the other doesn't. And then the bickering back and forth over a game lol. I stopped flying military in P3D because I had heard that DCS is this and that and realistic. To an extent (it is just a game) it has realistic points but at the end of the day...sometimes it's just like Ace Combat got upgraded (never played it, just looked too fake). If you don't like said feature, don't use it. I stay off of servers because I don't want to dogfight with a pink Hornet (cool if that's your thing)! No harm, no foul. I hope I can toggle it off too because I never had a problem with the "real" one. But if not, oh well... Peace
  6. Well at least someone tried. DCS is starting to look like Ace Combat! lol
  7. Great. Now people can stop taxing on deck with taxi/nav lights on! lol
  8. +1 FDNF, I can count on one hand how many times I saw SHARP loaded.
  9. This is going to be so interesting!
  10. With pleasure!
  11. You are welcome! Yeah, that's what I thought I typed. Operational (fleet) birds always had tanks, RAG birds didn't. The airshow birds never do for obvious reasons. I wish there was a way to move the racks for an air show demo as well!
  12. I like your YouTube vids btw.
  13. 97-2018. Not much changed up until Tomcats went away.
  14. Operationally, I've never seen them without tanks. The FRS birds came to the boat without tanks but the fleet guys always had them. The video is old and grainy; can't tell which is fleet or the FRS but also, ashore the tanks come off and on frequently for a variety of reasons.

  16. Word!
  17. Thank you. You guys do an awesome job!
  18. The ship will always (IRL) remain at BRC until the last aircraft traps. The WOD should be right down the angle. There is no overhead break. Single engine is a straight-in approach much like Case II/III. Of course, we try to get the emergency jet last. Doesn't always happen though!
  19. Yes, you can go around. Take a look at Hornet Single engine performance charts.
  20. Think the Tower Rep in Primary has that covered. Paddles is too busy!
  21. It would probably help if your FORMATION skills are up to snuf. Practice that ad nauseum and you'll be fine!
  22. For your first question, the answer is yes. But once that engine is offline, if the aircraft traps, it has to be towed out of the landing area because you lose hydraulics (no brakes, cant raise hook, etc). You would have to look in the Pilot NATOPS for single engine procedures.
  23. Well that's great! I always wondered what Comms were like back in the day.
  24. Happened to me too on CAT 4! Landed on deck, collapsed nose wheel.
  25. Umm...it's been said that nothings broken. IRL you cannot hear the flaps move, in or out of the jet. Not with the motors running anyway. Good luck screwing with the files, you might break something. I hope not!
