This question puzzles me greatly also. I would be happy to pay for one aircraft in Kickstarter and pay more for every released later. These will be DCS quality and not IL-2 (honestly I'm much more interested in the BoS's front, aircraft, time period, game engine), which would translate to me as DCS: P-51 style pricing for the effort of developing such benchmark simulations. I really want to support this project but I'm not even interested in any of the initial aircraft. The first interesting I see is the Me 262 for which I would pay some good bucks. I'll probably kick in with 40 bucks and get the Me 262 eventually and support the developers. Have to think about it until the next payday.

I figure there would be a fundamental shortage of the coolant in Russian bases. :D One of my ex-FiAF teachers in college once told that the MiG-21 radar was cooled by pure alcohol which was delivered in large barrels. The barrels came with a separate denaturing agent which was to be poured into the barrels. Then one day... SOME DAMN FOOL ACTUALLY DID IT!!! That damn fool had an expensive trip to the liquor store that day. Ok, carry on...

Interesting, thanks. I've seen the EMCON button in the cockpit but didn't know RadAlt is part of it.

Trying to make sense out of the Steam, BS & BS2 upgrade
Griffin replied to ToWcH's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I couldn't disagree more. The DLC FC3 modules have been requested by the community and I'm very happy about it. And most importantly, the aircraft in FC3 have only the names in common with the FC2 aircraft. ED have rebuilt them almost completely if not for some of the most basic radar code and features. AFM, 3D pits and many many new features making them more realistic than ever without going into the depth of the DCS series aircraft. Now they actually possess the features that the real aircraft have and been begged by the community for a long time. Plus today they are cheaper than ever! You don't have to buy any of this and continue happily ever after with your FC2. My only gripe is the lack of bug fixes for BS2. Some minor ones were fixed in the latest patch though. I haven't bought the full version BS2 (I have the upgrade) because of this but for this price I might go for it. What I know is that the A-10A will be mine for sure! The prices are very tempting for more too but I'll see. :) -
UV-26 Countermeasures Control Panel stays Off in autostart.
Griffin replied to Metal Hawk's topic in Bugs and Problems
While I agree it should be fixed, I think auto start only starts the helicopter and it's systems up and it's the pilot who prepares the systems for the flight specific setup. There is so much to adjust after the actual start up that flipping one more switch is just one drop in the sea. -
What's going on with these? Would really like to print them out in their final version!
-
What is that based on? Air defenses use passive radio receivers? How do they detect low energy radio waves pointing directly below a helicopter?

Chuck Norris joined OMON?

Nice! Good catch.

I'm at work today but I'll keep my torrent on for the weekend. Most of the time I could ask "where are the leechers?!". EDIT: Sorry, I think my version is too old already.

Engine Fire, no tempature increaste in guage
Griffin replied to Mar044's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The engine temperature is being read from inside the engine where the temperature is already high. A fire is most likely to happen outside the actual engine when a broken fuel line is going to burst into flames. If you deploy the fire extinguishers, they will not be emptied into the engine gas path itself (which would only interrupt the fuel burning for a while and resume again if fuel and ignition is not cut off) but into the nacelle where the possible fuel line is burning. If a fire would start inside the engine, I think most likely the turbine would be in shreds anyway by the damage required to light an unwanted fire inside the engine. -
That's when he needs to know your range to know if he has a firing solution.
-
Both helicopters can fire the same missile but the Mi-24 doesn't have a laser. BMP-2 has a laser for range finding. It doesn't mean the missile is guided by laser if you get the warning. It's for range finding to see if you are in range for engagement.

I just visited the aviation museum today here in Vantaa, Finland. They have a temporary "Messers in Finland 70 years" exhibition where they borrowed one of the two surviving Messerschmitts in Finland from it's home in Utti. Shame I missed the one day when they brought a StuG from armor museum there too. I took some pictures especially of the engine and the cannon, something you don't see everyday. More high resolution pictures can be found on my Drive: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B7JS_-OtBYkJY2pFU3V5UlJEMzQ&usp=sharing The DB 605 A-1 The MG 151/20 is bolted to the rear of the engine and fires between the cylinder blocks through the propeller shaft. Yep, it's the Gustav's fist! I believe the cartridges are fed into this hole on the left side. And the business end! The view through the propeller shaft. Sorry, it was difficult to get a good shot with top mounted flash. And finally, the hero of the house.

Sorry. I've felt so too for a while, yet, it's just so hard not to say anything. I think people should use the rep button more to disapprove such emotional commenting. Thanks to devs for making many of my wishes come true though.

I don't see anything changing really with monthly updates. People will still be people, just less often. And bringing to everyone's attention the kind of behavior that ED would not like to see would help too. Like someone mentioned the stricter moderation. I have been complaining about lack of BS2 support every time but without people bringing their voice out, they might think no one is flying the old Shark anymore and let it decay. It was really great to see so much work going on with the weekly updates. Makes you really feel that you are a part of a live DCS World instead of buying products of some distant and cold Ubisoft or something like that.

aviation art...everybody know those?
Griffin replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Some very similar in another thread if you want some more. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=112156 -
Yes the velcro is a must have. Otherwise they will be nearly useless.

Check out this guy's digital artwork. Mainly historical aviation themes with WW2, medieval and Sci Fi. The artist is an active member on IL-2 and RoF forums. I found them simply mind blowing! Would love to buy his art on my walls. Use the slide show feature and watch in full screen. http://roen911.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=0

is the a10a cockpit meant to be clickable?
Griffin replied to Vegeta1997's topic in A-10A for DCS World
He's right though. People coming to the website for the first time will have hard time actually understanding how big the difference in each aircraft is. I think the two products (DCS and FC3) should be clearly differentiated. The product tiles on the right side don't give hint about the difference at all and it only looks like the A-10A and Su-25A are on big sale. If you click the tiles, you'll see the features of the A-10A module and it doesn't state that the module doesn't have a clickable cockpit. All the text actually makes it look like a very complex simulation. I suggest adding something like this to the description: - This module features simplified avionics without a clickable cockpit, while still simulating the important systems realistically. For fully simulated clickable cockpit and complex avionics systems, please see DCS: A-10C module. And the opposite to the other module. And Vegeta, you're not an idiot. There are no stupid questions and feel free to ask anything if you don't find it with search function. -
