Bugs with Mission 25.07.12
Lucas_From_Hell replied to Lucas_From_Hell's topic in M-2000C Red Flag Campaign
Happy to be of help, and thanks for the fixes! -
Has anyone here figured out how to get the Russian voiceovers? I get this dude speaking English with an accent, I'd much rather go with the native version.

I'm really enjoyed the campaign so far, great work! It is a joy to fly, and the characters for the pilots really make it stand out (looking at you, Max :D). Today I came across a few minor bugs on the mission set at 1130 LT, 25/07/2012, which piled up. 1. After engaging the large group of bandits, I reached bingo state and communicated this to the AMC who allowed RTB. However, radio messages came after that telling all flights to return to station and monitor for more bandits. 2. The tanker Arco, with TACAN 14X, is supposed to be a KC-130 but within the mission it is actually a KC-135! You can imagine my surprise when I followed AWACS and TACAN only to find a big fat Boeing roaming around, with almost no fuel left after looking everywhere for the Hercules. 3. Despite the RTB call, the F-5E group continued the engagement, and a single Tiger followed me almost all the way to Moapa where it shot me down. Bonus: Missing the horizontal stabiliser and half the engine, I still managed to put this warrior down safely in the desert :joystick:

Terrible news... No news on the nature of the crash have surfaced in Brazilian news either. The previous incident was a little bizarre though, the type of failure encountered, if not identified and corrected quickly, should have caused the mission to be aborted.

Ah, this is a little lost in a simulator but it's not the developer's fault. One thing I've noticed from Russian aircraft in real life, from sitting in the cockpit or poking around the full-scale simulator, is how extremely heavy the controls are. There is no way a person can accidentally add some stick input without noticing because that thing loves being in the centre and it will not budge unless you put a lot of force there.
-
BadHabit, that's not artificial saturation on the Tiger. The limiter button actually there to simulate a feature the real F-5E-3 has - a heavy spring that works as a roll limiter and needs heavy input to overcome. The MiG-21 doesn't have that assist, so we need to make do. If it's making flying imprecise or uncomfortable, give the curves a go and see if they help! Physical stick precision also plays a part here, my flying improved tenfold since I got a T16000M because it detects the smallest of movements, making temperamental or sensitive aircraft like the Fishbed and Tiger a joy to fly.

L-39 Training missions voices in russian
Lucas_From_Hell replied to Tarres's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
I love that they're in Russian, it's much nicer than Jimmy from Ohio putting on his best 'Rashan akcent'. -
Can't say I've had that experience, missile or gun hits usually destroy the plane and kill the pilot whenever I'm inside it.

Downloaded, flew the first mission, enjoyed it a lot! Two things I learned which I probably knew already: 1) Baltic_Dragon is a radio fetishist, and probably has a secret dungeon full of radios, all tuned to different frequencies. 2) I thought I was OK with the Mirage 2000 HSI and INS, but now I'm 100% that's incorrect. I have no idea how to add or interpret the rho/theta information given to find Charlie or to work out the TACAN offset. A glance over the manual is due before moving on, else

Is it available for download yet?

There are skins for both RCAF and IRIAF included, but by default they can only be selected if the country is set to Canada or Iran. Maybe if you edit the .lua files you can make them appear for whichever country you're interested in for MP?
-
I cannot contain the excitement! Out of curiosity, for practice purposes, once this launches what will be the go-to tanker during the mission - C-130, S-3 or KC-135?

How do you F5 guys use awacs to find bandits quickly and easily?
Lucas_From_Hell replied to redmantab's topic in DCS: F-5E
The regular "BOGEY DOPE" call will give you the heading and distance between you and the nearest enemy. What becomes tricky after certain distances is that the enemy is obviously moving, so by the time you're in the position the AWACS gave you, the enemy will be somewhere else. Try to mentalise the bad guy's movement after a few calls some minutes apart, and work on anticipating their next position if possible. -
Probably not going to happen, boss. To my best knowledge, the F-5E fingerlifts are merely to pick between the idle and off positions.

This is the file you need to edit: *.\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21bis\Missions\Campaigns\MiG_21_CAMPAIGN.cmp There's a campaign builder/editor in game, and you can change the conditions there. I've been meaning to do the same thing, the missions are exciting but the order is a little too confusing.
-
That's really great to hear, I can't wait! The preview mission was really nice, the hype is going at full speed :D Oh, and I'm looking forward to aligning the INS wrongly by adding EAST instead of WEST longitude, like I did the first time around.

I finished replaying the Mirage 2000C campaign on 2.5. Past some kinks that were ironed out quickly after released, it all worked very well and made for a very pleasant experience. Thanks Baltic_Dragon for putting this campaign together! Here is my very first landing in this campaign: And this is the aftermath of the last.

Realworld Loadouts - On what do the depend?
Lucas_From_Hell replied to Rhinozherous's topic in Military and Aviation
Adding to jojo's post, there's also the range and performance issue. If you go too heavy on weapons and your plane almost refuses to fly, you'll burn a lot of fuel on the way to target and also be very vulnerable if trouble comes your way. -
I've had mixed luck with it. Frontal aspect shots are pretty terrible, the lock is lost as soon as the target turns hard, but rear aspect is working OK for me.

[REPORTED] Mk 82 too high into pylons
Lucas_From_Hell replied to Lucas_From_Hell's topic in Bugs and Problems
Right-o, thanks for the info! :) -
I've found it to be accurate enough, but it needs to be used within the right parameters to work. From the manual (bold mine, with the mistakes I make the most): CCRP (flat): 1. Minimum altitude should be 2000 feet AGL and speed above 350 KIAS. 2. Fly in a slight dive towards your target. It shouldn’t be more than 15º. 3. Place the CCRP piper over your target 4. Click on the AG DESIGNATE button (refer to HOTAS title in Chapter 1). 5. Pull up and resume level flight. 6. The target cross will remain over the target. 7. Fly towards the target. 8. When you are 15 seconds from the release point, the release cue will appear. 9. Press the trigger as soon as you see the release cue. Keep the trigger pressed while the cue is visible. 10. The bombs will be released automatically when the cue cross the CCRP piper. 11. The system will clear the target designation as soon as the bombs have been released. CCRP (dive): 1. Level start. ~ 350 kias. Idle thrust when diving. 2. Target designation. Trigger held down. Follow guidance cues. 3. Start of pull up. Follow guidance cues. 4. Bomb release. 5. Bomb path. 6. Breakaway. Thrust as required. CCIP (bombs): 1. Upon activating the CCIP, raise the seat so your downwards view is better 2. For diving runs minimum altitude should be 1500 feet AGL. 3000 AGL feet is better, especially if you are going to do a high angle dive. 3. Minimum indicated airspeed should be 400 KIAS. 4. The CCIP pipper will appear at the bottom of the HUD. 5. When nearing your target, fly in a dive. The steeper the dive the better. 20º to 25º dives are very precise. 6. Check the safe altitude cue position. 7. Press the trigger to release the bombs when the CCIP piper is over your target 8. Pull up. 9. DO NOT release the bombs if the safe altitude cue intersects the FPM or is above it.

DCS: Mi-24P - What we know + Discussion
Lucas_From_Hell replied to MrDieing's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
I'd venture it to be like the Mi-8 since it was developed from it. Google says only the newer versions have an auto-hover mode, but I don't know if that's accurate.
