I don't understand why I cannot make the ground White with Snow in the Winter ! I am using DCS World 1.5 OB. I have created a mission with a few variations to test the Winter Phenomenon. In fact I am trying to create a Sochi Winter Olympics scenario. Those events started in Feb 2014. So I have set the game date for that same period. Even at minus 20 degrees, the ground is only patchy with snow (way more grass than snow). I have moved the date to January where surely even in Sochi the ground should be covered in snow at that time of year. December ... same BS. What's up with this thing ? Why can I not make the terrain look like WINTER ? PS> I have NO MODS installed.

Unless I have missed something, the Gazelle has NO Autopilot. At least not like that which the DCS Huey has. I'm going to jump in and have a look but I'm pretty darn sure there is No AP for Gazelle that allows you to set a heading and/or attitude. However, it DOES HAVE an Altitude Hold and a Speed Hold function; both of which are controlled at the Bottom Edge/Right Side of the Front/Main Instrument Panel. It does not have a setting for attitude. The manual describes how and when each of the AP modes works (i.e. altitude hold and speed hold parameters).

I don't know about the Mistral firing issues BUT I can tell you that the Auto Hover does work (at least for me 5 mins ago). Make sure all of or the correct Gun/Rocket switches are ON (depending on M or L version) and the MASTER ARM is On. In the L model, if you don't see Gun Sights, something is probably not set correctly. RE: HOVER It is critical that there is Zero Lateral Motion aka Speed and Zero Decent/Climb Rate. If all those are in place, you should be able to activate the Hover Hold. I personally have mine saved to the same Hat that I use for Zoom. Left/Right zooms in/out and Up zooms normal. Down is Auto Hover. I use a couple other things for Slave to Camera and to Ascent/Descend while in hover.

I'm actually noticing the Frame Rate issue also in Single Player now (at least at times). I create very simple missions so I don't think it's that. I just got sick of it today and put it away after crappy Frame Rate and Startup in NEW Mission with Busted Tail. I guess I'll park it until I hear these issues have been resolved. I haven't got all day to start and restart missions and crash from lousy visuals. But I do enjoy the Gazelle when it's working good.

Actually, the lousy Frame Rate issue even seems to be happening in SP in a simple mission I created (very simple, very little going on). Surely it can't be just me !! ???

Frame Rate Issues in MP I have been having really bad Frame Rate issues in the Gazelle for the last little while. It was terrible in the Campaign (single player) but in MP it is also very bad. While in a server this morning, I tried the Gazelle again only to find the Frame Rate drop to be significant. While remaining in the same server, I jumped in a Huey to see if it might be just Me or the Server, only to find my frame rate was flawless (like it usually is in MP unless it's bad for everyone else at the same time ... which happens occasionally). Anyway, am I the only one having this issue or is this something that Polychop is aware of already ? I do hope it is corrected very soon because it makes the Gazelle almost impossible to fly in MP, especially when trying to hover low or land. And it made the Campaign (SP) almost impossible to fly throughout much of the campaign .. at least for me. But I concede that with regards to the Campaign that it might have simply been that there was so much going on at times that it "MAY" have been just my video card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti ... 16 Gig RAM, 4.3 MHz Processor 8 core). ??

Co-Pilot / Weapons Officer Snap View SAVE Broken Since at least the last update, I have not been able to Save my Default View for the Gazelle Co-Pilot. It appears that both Pilot's default view is linked because if I change one it affects the other and visa versa. I have tried deleting my default/snap view files in DCS in order to recreate my custom views, but this has not done anything to help. I believe this is only in the Gazelle but the only other MOD I have double-checked is the Huey Pilot/Co-Pilot default view save. It seems to be working properly (ie. independent of each other). Can anyone else confirm this issue ? Can someone at Polychop please take a look into this ? I can upload/attach any requested files. Thanks in Advance. PS> The Gazelle is still perfectly flyable as is but it would be nice to have a custom default view for the co-pilot (as I did have it but cannot now change it ... at least not permanently).

EH ? You don't want my sexy Canadian voice ? The Horror ! lol

Thanks again BaD CrC BTW - Sorry for the Typo ... re: DaD CrC in my previous post !! lol

I'm a bit slow ... but I finally figured out it is necessary to do the F2 view first as you have explained. The downside to it is if you are re-spawning in a mission to jump into a different aircraft to finish the mission and this happens. Then you have to start everything all over again {Explanation in NOTE Below} That said, I don't know if that was the intention of DCS where it allows us to choose a new slot. Note: I have a couple missions in which there are two models of Gazelle (L and M of course) and a choice of targets for each loadout. I also have 2 Hueys with different loadouts to complete the objectives of those target areas. I can start attacking an area in the Gazelle and finish in the Huey. The targets killed with the 1st aircraft remain dead when I arrive to finish the mission in the other aircraft. Therefore, as long as I don't get killed (like sometimes when re-spawning ... and the tail is broken off !). Again, I don't know if this is how the SLOT option was intended to be used. But this is when I most commonly end up with the broken tail issue. Thanks for your reply DaD CrC.

It seems to me that "a Single Player Mission with more than static trucks" would be pretty simple to create one's self. On the other hand, a new Single Player or Multi-player Campaign that allows strategic use of ALL Gazelle models and weapons would be very cool .... and not so easy for the average sim pilot to create. As far as a single player mission goes, you can easily create an instant mission (and edit it to your liking) very easily in ME. It's just my opinions. I am not stabbing at your's MAD-MM.

Well I guess the joke was on me ! They could have at least given us another medal !! lol

I think this behavior also exists in Single Player but I'll get back to you on that later today. It definitely happens in MP. If blowing from left to right, one would expect to compensate using Left Rudder .... but nope ... it doesn't work like that in at least 2 servers I have frequented (F5E in one and Huey in the other).

I FINALLY completed Mission 11 "Face to Face" in Operation Dixmude. At the end, I got a message stating "Achievement Unlocked: This is MeatSPLASH" What the heck does that mean ? and When Achievements have been Unlocked, where do we find them or see the results of them or ... whatever ?
-
Tail Broken Off before take off Since the last update, I have found myself in a broken Gazelle before I even get to go anywhere. I am flying Operation Dixmude for the 2nd time (no better success !). I am stuck on Mis 11 Face to Face which is really burning my ass. But more specifically because twice I have fired the Gazelle up and got it all ready to go and all it wants to do is Flip Over to the Right. Turns out (each time ... difficult to see in the dark) that the Tail is completely broken off from behind the cockpit. What's up with that ? I'd send a track but it's too hard to see anything AND too pissed off to think of saving such a track file !

I don't know if this is the right place to post this issue ... but here goes anyway. For several months, our aircraft (it doesn't seem to matter which mod .. has affected me in the F5E, Huey, Gazelle, Mustang), are being pushed "towards the wind" instead of away from or with the wind. The wind sail/tail on the windshield of the Gazelle (for example) clearly shows the wind blowing FROM the left, and yet we get pushed TO the left ! When on a runway, and relying on Smoke Stacks (since there are no Wind Socks at airports ?), as well as the Mission Report for wind direction, the aircraft respond opposite to that which they ought to respond. Surely this is something that can be quickly and easily resolved ? !! Please fix it asap. Thanks in Advance

I don't get it. Why would they deliberately model the laser to always be ON ? Maybe I'm just looking at it in the wrong way, but it seems to me that it just a good way to get smoked by laser-tracking weapons. Couldn't they simply follow the beam right back to us ? i.e. "Here I am. Please Kill Me NOW !" PS> I just flew Mission 11 in Op. Dixmude AGAIN (both Mis 5 and 11 really seem to like to piss me off). I tracked my camera left and right and was able to notice the White Spot moving with it. So it IS definitely the Laser. I just don't get why. Modeled maybe but it seems like a mistake to me. Hopefully, someone will be able to explain why this is "normal" and what if any Advantages/Disadvantages there might be with it modeled this way (besides the possibility that it might be like this in the real world).
-
It never even dawned on me that it might be the laser. Why would the laser always be ON ? It should always be OFF so that it doesn't burn out. And then fired only when ranging. At least, that is what makes most sense to me. In any case, it's annoying !

Night Vision Goggles (NVG's) - White Dot ? What is it ? Every time I use the NVG's, there is always a White Spot out in front of me. Depending on my distance from terrain, determines how large and bright (and close) said white spot appears. When it's really close, it's really bright. Like when taking off from a boat at night with NVG's ON. Is this normal ? What is it ? Can it be eliminated ? Please see attached images.

Definitely Corsair F4U Corsair Please I was given the excellent opportunity to help award Pappy Boyington with a wood replica of the Corsair that was hand-carved by a guy I worked with (back in the 70's). This was at the Toronto CNE. Pappy gave me a signed print (which some prick stole from me years ago !). I'd love to fly a Corsair.

Overall I have to say this was a well planned (and scripted) Campaign. I was frustrated several times, not knowing what to do or where to go etc (because things happen "on the fly" during ANY mission) but I managed to figure it out ultimately. The ONLY thing(s) I'd like to see different with regards to a Gazelle Campaign would be to have a few more Daytime Missions and more importantly, the Option OR Necessity to Select a Specific Model of Gazelle (i.e. the ability to fly all 3 available Gazelle mods or loadouts in a single campaign eg: Hot3's, Guns & Rockets, Air-to-Air). Maybe we'll see that in a future campaign !! ?? One can only hope. Thanks PolyChop for the great aircraft/mod and for this Campaign.

I finally figured it out but it wasn't with much help from the Command Center or Meatboy. One has to almost Interpret what the goals are considering they often change on the fly. Just a WEE Bit more information and less radio chatter flak might help for those like me that are easily distracted by "fluff" !!

I know one thing is for sure ... Mission 10 BLOWS. I have gotten to the Objective 5 times ... blown engine all but one time (got shot down once). Then between Frame Rate Drop and Mixed Messages, I lost my prop on 8th attempt (after leaving Objective). It's a real Pain. IF anyone has gotten through this and had any tips, I'm all ears/eyes !!
