Yeah that is a bit of a downer nowadays.

Nice to see some are still devoted to native PC-VR gaming. This could be a good thing: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/dpvr-e4-announced-with-november-launch-aims-to-dominating-the-consumer-market-for-tethered-pc-vr-headsets-301687567.html

Varjo Aero: Общее руководство для новых владельцев
dburne replied to Supmua's topic in Virtual Reality
Ok great, thanks for the info. I may try it out again just to see how it compares now in performance. Have lost some on that end with DCS 2.8. -
Performance with the Hornet in the Persian Gulf seems off since 2.8. I mean on the Super Carrier I get my usual low fps in VR, but once airborne and flying around it remains about the same. Previously my performance once I take off was much better, especially when flying over water. Now it stays low no matter if taking off the super carrier or flying over water.

Varjo Aero: Общее руководство для новых владельцев

So what is the latest on using Open Composite/Open XR with DCS and the Aero? I gave it a whirl several weeks ago and went back to Steam VR. Worth another go now or is it even more complex than it was then? How is Foveated Rendering doing with DCS and the Aero? Is it still just a matter of copying the openvr_api dll into the DCS bin folder? -
As they say oftentimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. With exception of my GPU my rig is almost 4 years old, it will be in Jan. I run a Varjo Aero and still using my 3090 GPU and I can get a very pleasurable experience which looks very good - to me. I am starting the thought process on upgrading but hoping I can hold off till around this time next year.

You won't find a VR headset that gives you everything you looking at like a 4k monitor. 4k monitor is 2d, flat screen, very small comparatively speaking. VR is a whole nother animal. However one can have a very good experience with it even with the current shortcomings. It is the only way I fly now, and has been that way since Jan 2017. I choose VR - where I am virtually in that cockpit flying that airplane looking at the world all around me. Love it.

Yeah nothing will totally ruin a VR lens like a ray of sunshine hitting it briefly...
-
For my Aero I just keep the box it came in sitting on floor by my desk, and set it in the box when not in use.
-
Yeah vertical fov is not so great. For me the image clarity outweighs that, for others that are more sensitive to the fov it may be a bigger factor. I am very much used to it now and no it does not bother me.

Depending on what part of the world you are in - HP currently has sale on the Reverb G2 for $299. Best bang for the buck VR headset imho. Also depending on how serious a VR gamer you are - the Varo Aero is currently the cream of the crop, but expensive. Varjo currently is offering $300 off for Black Friday deal. But it is still costly especially by the time you add in the Lighthouse trackers and controllers. I have been running one since late Jan. and love it. But yeah that Reverb G2 is a heck of a bargain and a good headset.

You don't by chance have Vaicom Pro with Voice Attack do you? If you do check and make sure you do not have chatter enabled in Vaicom.

Badger's campaigns are excellent especially for new Hornet flyers. They start off not too complex and gain in complexity the further you go. I have learned a lot flying his campaigns. There is currently the freeware The Serpents Head campaign, a nice 6 mission introduction, then there is the pay-ware follow up - The Serpents Head 2 which is fantastic. And then there is Rise of the Persian Lion which is also great. I have had many hours of fun and learned a lot from flying these three campaigns. All utilize the Super Carrier which I love!

Monster Tech are very high quality and easily attached/detached. Not sure if they offer ones for your particular setup but have a look they have several. I had both an extended I use with my Gunfighter Pro and a standard I use with my Virpil CM3 Throttle and also a collective mount for my Virpil Rotor collective. Love their mounts.

Varjo Aero: Общее руководство для новых владельцев

They are hoping for next update, so maybe Dec. if all goes well. At the least it should not be too much longer now. -
about to retire the Warthog stick and throttle
dburne replied to dmatsch's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Two really good options to replace the Warthog combo with, but they are not necessarily the type of stick you are looking for. Virpil CM3 stick and Virpil CM3 Throttle or VKB Gunfigther Stick but also with the Virpil CM3 Throttle. The sticks I believe you can get with or without the twist option. I myself much prefer rudder pedals, I use the MFG Crosswinds which are great peddles without breaking the bank. Oh and for helicopter flying I recently added a Virpil Rotor Collective. In any event the above hardware is very good quality and will last a long time. -

I sure never get 90 fps in any of the DCS missions I run. However I do love my graphics so yeah I run them fairly high. Long as I can keep above 45 fps or so it is decent for me. Really looking forward to their Motion Reprojection implementation when they get it done. -
Man oh man, if they stayed devoted to native PC-VR I would love to see what Valve would do with an Index 2. The Index is so dated now yet still sells fairly well. Not too mention the even greater sales of Lighthouse 2.0 trackers as other headsets utilize them now also. I use em with my Aero.

Dang after getting my Aero and selling my G2 a few months later I am almost tempted to pick another one up at this low price - just to have it. Naw, I still got too many headsets. And can't see myself not using my Aero unless something happens to it. But that is a fantastic price for an equally fantastic headset.

is DCS a Ship Simulator and weapons systems Simulator only ?
dburne replied to GOZR's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yep that statement of his you quoted says all one needs to know. -
No not that I have seen. Now I usually don't take breaks in middle of a flight but when something comes up and I need to it does not.
-
Not sure you would really want a static image displayed in your headset with no movement for a length of time. Not sure why DCS would quit though.

Wellll, if DCS was for everybody then I guess everybody would have it then huh.... Life is too short, have fun in life, do what you enjoy and never sweat the small stuff. -
Yeah it would seem for whatever reason that particular option has been removed.

Fully agree on everything there. I am a single player only guy and absolutely love DCS , it has brought me tons of joy over the last several years.
