Problem cloning NVME with my DCS install
Beirut replied to Beirut's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Success! Ended up cloning the drive with Macrium and all is well. 2TB of NVME goodness. But I dumped almost all the maps out before I did - still took a few hours - so I have a wee bit of downloading to do. At least that is stress free. Thanks to all for holding my hand as I crossed the technological street. -
Problem cloning NVME with my DCS install

I have the free trial of Macrium and will use that today. @Nightdare Was thinking of that but I'm sure I'll screw the pooch somewhere. I wish I was better at this kind of stuff. -
Problem cloning NVME with my DCS install
Beirut replied to Beirut's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That was/is a concern. I saw a video about that but wasn't sure. Thank you for putting in a good word about it. I might just do that. Just FYI: I started the move my DCS install last night. Hit "move" and went to bed while close to 1TB of DCS goodness went from here to there. Woke up, PC was off, started it up, and the move was stopped at half. Figured I was McScrewed. But my internal Steam install still works. Gotta hand it to Steam for covering for people like me. -
Hello, I want to clone my 1TB ADATA DCS-only Steam install NVME drive info to a new Samsung 2TB NVME that I have hooked up in an external case. The Samsung Migration Tool says my ADATA 1TB drive is not supported. And thus my headache. I was curious what would happen if I just created a new Steam folder in the new 2TB NVME and used the Steam function to migrate DCS over to that NVME, and then just took out the old 1TB NVME and put in the new 2TB one. Would that work? This is past my mental snack bracket and any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Cold War Sale | Currenthill Assets | Contention PVP Servers
Beirut replied to Graphics's topic in Official Newsletters
Agreed. The mods are very nicely done and are provided free of charge to everyone. Love to see those who complain try to make even one as nicely as the 100+ Currenthill has made.- 49 replies

All the maps. Always all the maps. It's a question of cash, ma man. I'm going to order a 2TB Samsung NVME tonight, for under $200. A 4TB is over $400. The difference in price buys me stuff I need for work. Real life. What can ya do, eh?
-
Amazon might be getting my money tonight for some new storage. I don't like having maps uninstalled but my 1TB DCS-only NVME can't handle all this map goodness.

For the price, what we got, and what we will get, I think it's good. If, on the other hand, we were asked to pay maybe $150 for the map and it weighs about 300 or 400GB, then I would expect more. And just for the record, if a dev wants to make a $150 map that comes in at 400GB, I'm all in.

Great map, but definitely resource hungry
Beirut replied to SandMan23's topic in DCS: Cold War Germany
Performance here is good but the F-15E seems to take a big hit and stutters badly down low. Other jets are smooth at treetop height but the Strike Eagle is pretty much unflyable until you go up a thousand feet or more. All in all the map is definitely resource heavy, but very enjoyable and runs well. Happy to have 64GB of RAM right now. -
The map looks great at night, but the runway lights... you always have to have already landed to see them sometimes. I like the Kola runway lighting. Big and bold. Makes night landings more scenic and enjoyable.
-
The night lighting looks great but many of the airfields are so dimly lit, almost invisible. Love to see the big airfield lights get turned up. Or at least have the option to get turned up.

Thanks. Going to check this out.

This is one hell of a chopper map. Very CH-47 friendly.

Just home from work, made coffee, patched up, and downloading Germany now on Steam. Coming in normal quick Steam speed. What to do tonight? What to do?

I will keep buying lottery tickets, and if I win, I'll buy the RB collection and fix everything. And the chances of that happening are exactly the same as anyone at ED or RB saying, "You know what... that Beirut fella has a good point."

I'm trying to find a percentage infinitely lower than 0% to show how much impact us "demanding" would have on the parties involved. It may take some time. I'll report back when done.

Amen! Not sure if I'll have the map before I get a new 2TB NVME just for DCS. Might have to uninstall a few other maps to make room for the time being.
-
Sweet! Can't wait. 205GB. That's a lot of map goodness.
-
I'm still good with early access. I've bought lots of stuff EA and I'm far more happy than disappointed with the end results.
-
If someone started an F-15E from scratch today, a lot of us might be well past retirement age by the time it hits early access.

I think Ron posted about that in the Harrier forum a few years back. IIRC, someone mentioned that the amazing Chuck's Guide author was having some kind of problem with the Harrier manual and hit a wall or something and Maybe RB was unable or unwilling to help. When it was brought up, Ron's dismissive response was "Well no one asked him to do it." Oh yeah. That went over really well.

Yeesh, the proceedings must be so polite and clinical.
