Looking to go triple monitor. Need monitor advice.
DayGlow replied to Stevos758's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
http://www.wsgf.org is a great resource. Get Flawless Widescreen off of the site and it makes most modern games work with an ultra-wide setup I highly reconmend if you can get 16:10 screens. The extra height really makes a difference. -
Need advice from 3+ screen users.

When I ran my Helios setup I adjusted the default forward view so that it stopped at the bottom of the HUD. That way the Helios screen with the instruments flowed into the DCS cockpit. I ended up getting rid of the touch screen as it took up too much desk space which I couldn't justify for a single game where it functions. -
this picture maybe of some interest of people here who want a Russian flight stick. This was posted by the Devs for the new Battle of Stalingrad sim being developed. That looks like a Russian style hotas.

with a AMD 5xxxx series and up or Nvidia 6xx series and up triple screens are very quick to setup. Most modern games do support triples screens and the ones that don't www.wsgf.org is a great resource. Flawless Widescreen and Widescreen Fixer are 2 programs that pretty much solve any triplecreen problem with most games. -
Using racing pedals as rudders
DayGlow replied to WannaBeGnome's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I spent a few years using my race pedals as rudder before investing in real rudder pedals. Just make sure you configure them as a single axis. Should be an option in the game controller panel. -
Leap Motion looks promising

All these things ate possible looking at the visualization software, but a DCS app would have to be created by someone. This type of control isn't possible with the current apps. The hardware has the abilities, but someone would have create specific software or ED create a native plugin like TrackIR. -
Leap Motion looks promising

So far it's a bit of a disappointment. The biggest drawback I can see is that you can't calibrate hand position relative to the screen edges. So I find tiny hand movement covers your whole screen. I find all apps are uncontrollable because it's way too sensitive to hand motion. If I could calibrate my screen edges relative to hand position it would be much more natural to use. Point to the top right with my hand and the leap is in that area right now there is no relation between hand position and screen position. -
I think the major hurtle is that most likely right now mouse position is reported as and x,y coordinate of your screen so as the viewpoint changes the mouse remains in its position. I'm not sure how to over come this. Maybe a spherical x,y,z position of the mouse within the cockpit so it remains on its point in the sphere relative to the cockpit at all times?
-
Well the edge of the screen could be the barrier for it. The BMS magnet curser has it own issues when you want to move it one over to a close button. I find I have to move my mouse hard to break the lock then come in from a different direction to hit the next button.

I was thinking on how to improve cockpit interaction, especially know that the Leap Motion is out. As a TrackIR user my mouse is dedicated to cockpit interaction. Right now the mouse pointer in the cockpit seems to be 'locked' to my relative head position. So if the mouse pointer is in the center of my view when I'm looking forward as I move my head around the mouse pointer stays in the center of my view. This causes the mouse pointer to have two influences on its position, my head movement and my direct input to the mouse. I find this makes it difficult to hit some buttons. I glance down at the CDU and have to either turn off TrackIR or really consintratenat holding my head very still to input values. It works, but it makes a quick glance down and interaction a challenge. From what I understand from early adopters of the Leap this relative motion makes it very hard to be precise. I believe if the mouse pointer was instead 'locked' to its relative position in the 3D cockpit it would be a lot easier to control. This way there would only be a single influence on the mouse pointer input. You wouldn't have to fight your head movement to remain over a button/switch. This would also help the precision issue with the Leap as well.

To be fair the scope for Nevada changed from being a map to a whole new render engine. I'm willing to wait as the sim does need an update.

I wonder if the pro clip will interfere with it? Leap works off of IR tracking, will 3 bright dots mess it up? -
Opinion not based on clearly posted facts isn't really valid. If you have FC3 you will have everything in the individual modules and not have to buy them for any new features. The new modules are for people, that don't have FC3 and want to have some/all of the aircraft available.

+1. My pro lasted many years without a hiccup. The upgraded spring mechanism really makes a difference.

We shall see if it pans out. It has a lot if potential. I remember when trackir came out the reviews were similiar. -

Red crosshair, "no targets found", mousewheel zooms

That would be my guess -

I pre ordered but I keep getting emails saying that my info isn't complete. I keep editing it and updating it, but they keep coming back. I'm a little suspicious they will cancel my order because my info was 'wrong' but really they have more pre orders than stock. -
:dunno: maybe easier to just open your desktop properties and drag your second monitor to the right side when you fly DCS.

This is what I hope would work. The yellow cross as a visual reference to where you are pointing. A left click could be as simple as breaking a plane in 3d space to emulate a button press. -
The top corner of your left most monitor is 1,1 in the xy space. So instead of using a negative have the fist MFCD at 0,0 then your second at 600. Your main screen will start at x=1601.

Complete failure at bombing targets - help needed
DayGlow replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Laser for distance is valid for the SU-25T as well. If the target is at a different elevation than you at release you will miss without accurate distance value. -
Complete failure at bombing targets - help needed
DayGlow replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Laser gives accurate distance to target which is needed to calculate when to drop the bombs at the right time. Without the laser all the fire control computer has is your altitude + slant angle of the targeting system to calculate the release point. This doesn't take into account difference in terrain height to the target. -
Well then I've been playing half assed sims all my life. Longbow 1&2 had modeling if systems that aren't fully unclassified, Janes F-15 & Superhornet as well. Pretty much all sims don't have full disclosure on flight dynamics and avionics, but they are still believable and fun. I think we can have a believable F-35 sim based on public knowledge and educated guesses. The flight dynamics don't have to be 1:1 accurate as long as it flies believable. Same for the avionics. Will they be a complete accurate? No, but based on what we know sensors do now we can make an educated guess on what they will be like on the aircraft. Will radar dection ranges be 100% accurate? No, but he'll that's a constant debate for the aircraft we have already. Really if we demand 100% accurate sensor representation, why are we flying DCS A-10 with its 'half assed' FLIR representation?

I didn't realize that this project can already be determined to be 'half assed'
