Didn't get that yet, but kinda expected him knocking on the canopy. Awesome! So great they thought about that

Kinda works, but usually the last post thing doesn't even remotely scroll down to the last post and the other's got the same problem missing its target constantly. That happens when you use scripts instead of anchor links... so basically I either click the last post one and scroll up or click on page one and then the last one, both cases are two steps. The numbers were much more direct.

Any possibility to buddy lase? Just tried without TGP and couldn't even launch them.

I don't think marketing is relevant at any point here. The real thing is that it's not just new clouds, but a new weather system with humidity, temperatures, pressure that affects visibility (through haze and fog) as well as thermal imagery on TGPs or missile seeker heads and it is something that's certainly needed as a base for the ATFLIR that's been said to come with a new IR system. And I'd expect they want to make sure that all that does at least work considerably well enough. Just showing fancy cloud layers probably would just ramp up the hype train, which wouldn't be the best thing to do with a rather uncertain ETA. Just reminding of the Viper Mavs here...

I'd very much love to see a HB Tornado as well in DCS. But as this is a 111 thread, I'll give my 2¢ on that one, as it's probably the thing that comes closest to the Tornado IDS and as always, it has some pros and cons when compared. One big pro that I haven't seen mentioned is the massive fuel capacity. IIRC it's somewhere around 33-35k lb and with the same engines the F-14A has, which should be able to do zone 5 for somewhere around 10-11 minutes if I'm not completely mistaken - the 110s do guzzle a lot more on gate, the F-111 would be going to be the stay-in-afterburner king on top of all aircraft in DCS. With a deck speed of M 1.4 it will probably run away from anything with ease and IIRC at 2km it would do 1.7 already and 2.0 at 4km. This is insane - and will get you out of trouble at a much higher chance than anything else. Especially with the rather limited maps in DCS, the fuel amount will cause the thing to be driven fast, giving it an edge where other planes might end up in massive trouble. I guess it's known that the plane was rated for M 2.5+ at altitude, but was able to reach M 3.0 easily, risking the engines though, as in kiss them goodbye after the sortie. Also important is the fact that it can deliver ordnance with a totally clean airframe within its bomb bay. The Tornado is a drag hell already even without any stores that you'd drop on your enemy - well, usually as you might get the impression those tanks and CMS/ELINT pods are bolted to them for eternity. When taking the Pave Tack TGP, it's loaded into the bomb bay as a retractable thing so you can at least clean the thing up after dropping your 10Es - how cool is that? Or, if I'm not completely mistaken, you can put a Vulcan gunpod with over 2k rounds in there. Now don't get me wrong, but I don't get why people want to get the A-6, literally based on a novel / movie. That thing is slow, it can't turn, it can't climb, it can't shoot, it can't fox 2, so basically it has even less capabilities to fend off an aerial thread than the F-117 which at least is able to hide with its low radar and IR signature. As cool as that plane might be, it's gonna be shot down a lot in DCS, even more than A-10s and Su-25s. And everything it did and made her famous, the F-111 can do better, except from being operated from a carrier, which is just the Navy's fault for not taking the thing even as a strike aircraft back then as it initially was built to be carrier capable even. And we do get the A-7E which can almost carry as much as the A-6E would, having more options on top of that while being more capable in defending against other planes. Just my honest opinion on the Intruder...

Still waiting for the LANTIRN, but agree on everything that's been said so far. One thing that annoys me jsut a bit though: I used to do the same that's been done with the LANTIRN, as in take over the control lines so we can use it anyway with some commands like setting the radar range and mode. At the moment the range change commands had been added to the wheel menu, all that stopped working and I can't make Jester switch the TID to the mode where ownship is centered when switching (that was great to have a general overview when doing A/G when you just switch over to it above the target area as it provides for a top down view of your surroundings, given there's datalinked AWACS available that covers the region so you know when something tries to jump you early enough and from where it does that), and changing the ranges (or anything, actually), simply takes a bit too long. Some small things like switching from 50nm to 100nm should happen almost instantly.

How to choose best TGP camera option for the job?
Eldur replied to Eldur's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Finally I've come across some footage of my issue and as I haven't been able to screenshot it myself (probably a facebook - since it's not Oculus anymore - problem, or just an Win 10 Early Access issue as usual), I'll just drop it in here from Mover's YouTube vids on the A-10C II which does have the exact same issue. Check the comments with time codes below (also in the Tube comments, somewhere deep down probably). And I do stand with my original thread title that has been redacted (and totally does not even remotely reflect my post at all, it should be like "TGP contrasts blanking/blacking out after weapon impacts", my original one was a bit too harsh I admit): With that issue, the TGP is close to unusable for me. BTW I've never seen this on pancake, but it does happen in VR everytime. 12:23 Finally I see someone else having that issue with the TGP going black after an impact. Having this in DCS for a while now, seen in both F-16 and A-10C II, but others weren't able to reproduce it yet. Also, looking at the general area where the impact happened, the contrasts are very lacking when the TGP does show something at all, and it's extremely washed out, as seen at 13:12 when you zoom the thing in and at 17:54 when you zoom out and then in again. 18:34 has the black screen again, followed by the washed out image. I agree it looks cool to some extennt, but usually it makes seeing things impossible the way it is right now. 24:58 does show it as well. This is a massive issue for me ATM and it only happens in VR. All this does not happen at all in pancake mode. 4:08 Again that issue... (I'll write that down here so it can be tracked as I'm gonna report this) 5:28 as well, 17:35 on the Mav screen also, as well as 18:42 I do hope that clarifies a bit what I intended to show up initially where I totally sucked at. -
DCS: F/A-18C Features Roadmap for Early Access
Eldur replied to Kate Perederko's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Now I've seen it... It's not under "The final list of features that are planned to be delivered in 2020 for DCS: F/A-18C Hornet:" though, didn't look above the picture though... -
I can totally agree after 10+ years of guitar for at least half an hour every day and still totally sucking at it. You can only be even remotely good at something if you literally stop doing everything else. But most probably devs do have families...
-
Have I missed something? I still can't see the page numbers there...
-
Totally BTW: Who else keeps reading into the signatures constantly because they're not separated by any means? Needs to be fixed as well...
-
Also, don't forget to turn it up at daytime as it's not maxed out initially.

Well, I just checked the Hornet Roadmap. And doing so very much gives me that impression as well. To be fair, all the things planned for the 2020 out of Early Access thing are things I realistically expect to be done not anywhere before mid-late 2022. And we've been lived though that before. IIRC the EDGE was first announced to come in 2013. It entered Open Beta in 2018. But as always, things take time and if there's one single rule in life: Plan never goes. And if there'd be a second: See rule #1. 10 years ago, when I still had job interviews I also thought it'd be just around the corner. Now, 10 years later without anyone having employed me and people that started to keep telling me it's because of "teh röyna", I've grown wisdom and knowledge. But let's not get into 1.7 / politics here, that just was and still is a glaring example for me how life in this world realistically goes, and everyone should expect just that and be happy about anything more they actually get. Thing is, things are going on and may be subject to change, which means it usually might take longer as expected. Regardless of that, what we do get, is quality. At least after the longer patch cycles have been introduced. And even just before that, an Open Blpha on ED made a Release Version on Microsoft look like an early Pre-Alpha. Every month I'm concerned if my OS might not boot up anymore or it might just have swept my files because it can - but I'm not concerned about DCS not running anymore on patch day.

DCS: F/A-18C Features Roadmap for Early Access
Eldur replied to Kate Perederko's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Is there any particular reason the data cartridge options item has been removed from the roadmap list? -
+1, also on the option to remove that has been promised to us prior to the SC release already.

The actual solution was fixing the software, that was just a workaround. And I'm seeing that in my Rift as well. One problem with DCS also, as introduced in some 2.5.6 version, is that the framerate consecutively drops while moving the head around and it jumps back up when holding it still. I also notice this won't happen when I tab out and turn my head with the HMD in "dev mode" (= on my forehead) while watching the pancake mirror. So the problems seem to be interlinked to each other.

I guess vBulletin themselves literally still run a 3.8.14 for a reason...
-
It is not okay, but just unacceptable. It is possible to detect the display device type well enough my multiple parameters and then use a dedicated stylesheet for each of those if required. It was already possible ~20 years ago when I first dived into that stuff. Not making use of that which nowadays is stone age tech, is cleary just cheaping on out. And vB is a paid proprietary software, so that makes it even more unacceptable. And if things nowadays simply are just aimed at mobile usage, it's just a bloody shame, no more no less. And I haven't even touched accessibility here... Also, I checked how the forum looks on my N9. It's literally like reading a newspaper through a telescope whereas it was like reading a package insert for your pills with 20/100 vision before. Neither was or is good. BTW, when posting, having that automagical "here, look at the post you've just dropped" scrolling thing is just nervous and unnecessary. Especially since we simply can't tab out the reply window anymore. I've seen better GUI programming than this in DOS times. Simply don't shackle the user up and pull him across the floor. Just do not do it.
-
Just noticed another inconvenience. When going to page 2+ on any forum that has stickies, the stickies will be listed there on every page, cluttering the page. Not 100% sure if that was the case before, but I think the regular thread count visible was bigger, like 20 or even 30 instead of just 10. Anyway it would be preferrable to hide the stickies from consecutive pages. It's good enough to have them on the first one.

Totally agree that it was long overdue, especially since the old version probably had some security issues that you wanted to have fixed which is something users normally don't think of when these updates happen. Just looks like we have to go through making the experience as close to the old one as possible together. Guess the first step is making the things work again that got broken, then the next one would be to change or customize the CSS to make the look more eye-friendly and after that comes the nice-to-have things. And we'll probably have to live with some things like being unable to middle click reply buttons to open them in separate tabs. BTW you're the only one so far I've seen with a working signature picture. You moderators sure are some lucky gits at the moment. BTW, while we're at it (I hope it's not too OT), I'd suggest changing a part of the rules to more modern terms: My point to make is the size limits do come from an era where people still were browsing the web on 56k with 800x600 or even lower screens. Any chance to have that revisited to fit more modern standards? I guess twice the sig height (or at least 150px) and twice the avatar size (especially considering the current layout around it having more than enough space for that) should be quite possible without cluttering up the visuals at all. Also, (haven't checked here yet), the old board had a pic size limit on the photo albums of 800x600 IIRC. I tried to put some settings screenshots in there (so I could always say "check my profile" instead of posting the same stuff over and over again), but that limit made it almost impossible to read off the things so I never actually did that. Being able to put screenshots of our graphics settings as well as graphics card settings and maybe even a dxdiag file somewhere sure would help bughunting. Would totally appreciate if you could consider changing this to more modern standards.

While trying to read stuff here, suddenly popping up out of nowhere: Yeah. Seems legit. But:

I do miss the thread page links where you could go directly to a specific page next to the thread titles BTW. Now you can only click the thing and go to page one or click a tiny thing next to the user's name and go straight to the latest post where you'd have to scroll up first which is just cumbersome. Also, the date line on top of a post is just way too small, the font is very much thinned out and almost impossible to read. And I won't change my opinion on the design until mankind finds a way to repair opticus nerves and I'll quote Nick Grey on this: The new default design "sucks balls" (that applies to any design that lacks colours) and sadly, the dark theme is utterly broken at this point and doesn't really look nice even though it feels better to the eyes. The old colour scheme with the blues and reds just was [CORRECT AS WAS]. And now somehow I feel my pastance pun on [CORRECT AS IS] doesn't work quite well... Also, I'm constantly getting When switching pages while reading a thread. The thing just seems to timeout at some point and with my impaired vision, I'm one of the slowest readers on earth. I always have to MiG28 the page before I can open up the next page. This whole scripety script interface is just pain in the plot nowadays. Why can't we just have simple, good old GET requests with parameters loading a new page anymore? It was sooo much faster with the old board version. ED having bought/licensed this for hard earned money must now feel like a customer of a former 3rd party they had And trying to edit this once again showed how cumbersome it is when middle clicks on vital functions don't work anymore...

Was guessing next week, but well. Always just expect it like the next job: never. Best way to stay safe of expectations that might not be met.
